From Mass Effect 3:

The Seventh Fleet was stationed near Eden Prime at the time of the Reaper invasion in 2186. Instead of being directly engaged in battle, the Reapers bypassed the Seventh Fleet entirely on their way to Earth.

So what happened?

-It isn't part of the Battle of Earth as far as we know (though it could have been but..)

-It isn't a War Asset unlike other Fleets in similar situations to it

-It is barely remarked on (voice or text story)

-Its supposed to be stationed near Eden Prime, yet Cerberus somehow manages to take Eden Prime without any response from them? How bad ARE they?!?

You can chalk this up to developer oversight. Alright, cool. But could this have been turned into an opportunity?

Basically to tie this into some MEA theories, what if the seventh fleet is used in assistance of a 'super sekret' Ark project? I have a lot of issues with the concept, but damn, this missing info about a whole human fleet annoys me.

Agree, disagree, thoughts, just put em down. I was just a little confused and even a little annoyed that the Seventh Fleet in the Reaper War had so little info.

-First Fleet around Sol Relay was halved and joined the Crucible

-Second Fleet had legacy of the Battle Shanxi, then was sacrificed at Arcturus Station by Hackett

-Third Fleet was at Arcturus and made it out to the Crucible

-Fourth Fleet was at Earth and was destroyed

-Fifth Fleet had legacy of the Battle of the Citadel and made it out of Arcturus to coordinate the Crucible

-Sixth Fleet was at Terra Nova and ordered to lay wait in reserve for the Battle of Earth, and along with still being a War Asset, its explained

-Eighth Fleet was wrecked by the Reapers and regrouped near Ontarom, but wasn't big enough to be considered more useful than to assist colonists and defend some Alliance assets so this is also explained

Actually after Earth fell Admiral Hackett dispersed his forces to stage hit and run attacks as he knew massed military assaults were futile

Diverting an intact fleet of warships to the ark project seems like it would be an odd thing to do in the circumstances.

Yeah but what I meant is that this sort of thing is explained for other fleets, but all we got specifically about the Seventh Fleet was the quote I gave above. I understand its easiest to assume that they hung back for smaller attacks, but its just weird that this is all we got in terms of explicit information. Unlike similar fleet-roles, we don't even get the Seventh Fleet included as a War Asset for the Battle For Earth.

Interesting, I never noticed that Bioware forgot about a fleet.

Huh....well how about that.  It would be interesting if they somehow worked that in, to maintain some sort of continuity.

Like Sixth fleet, the Seventh fleet was also most likely ordered to wait in reserve at the start of the war, effectively abandoning Eden Prime as the Sixth abandoned Terra Nova. This allowed Cerberus to take Eden Prime without resistance. But yeah, the absence of such an obvious explanation is curious and most likely developer oversight.

If they somehow linked the Ark project and this absent fleet, that would be cool. But since they probably forgot about the fleet in the first place, I find that unlikely.

Its a nice theory and one that can be implemented in retrospect or are we saying this was all planned out before the game released?

Well Bioware does have a history of leaving things vague in case of using it later :P

Either - whatever. Though I think Bioware has a thing for turning previous mistakes into canonized details/importance.

When discussing things like this you should always remember Laws of Artistic Writing. If something is missing it was most likely forgotten.

There could be some meaning in all this, but chances are slim. When they need some retrospective changes they just add something new. "You didn't hear about 9th fleet? Too bad, it was quite secret."

Good point, I suppose the end scene of inquisition and the lyrium idol in DA2 kinda backs that up.

Nice catch btw.

lol laws of writing. Writers learn the laws to break them as they see fit.

Though just keep in mind that this is less a theorizing thread (though its also that), but more my expression of annoyance that a fleet was ignored that much, haha.

Seventh Fleet clocked out for a beer at Purgatory and 'forgot' to check back in.
