Here's my info:

1.Mass Effect 2  PC Steam version c) MassEffect2.exe v1.00

2. a) Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600, Clock Speed: 2397 MHz, RAM: 3.49 GB, Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS, VRAM: 256 MB, Driver Version: 196.21, Sound Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output, Display Adapter: 5.10.0.5497

    Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009)

Here's my problem:

I pre-ordered Mass Effect 2 off of Steam and started playing the game, importing my character from the retail version of ME1. I played for about an hour, getting to the point where you start the first mission for Cerberus. I died during the first fight and when I tried to reload the game crashed. Every time thereafter that I've tried to load the game it crashes right after the "Press Any Key" screen with an error message that says  "The instruction at "0x7c90100b" referenced memory at "0x09ec7c50". The memory could not be "read" ".  Any help I ccan get for this problem would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Could I please get a response for this? I tried uninstalling and that didn't work.

have you verified the integrity of the cache files...right click on the game under my games --> properties --> I think tools then verify integrity of cache.



Though you did say uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help.

Yeah I tried that and I tried defragmenting. Neither worked.

Same problem. Just bought the game was able to play one mission and saved. when i tryed to start the back back up and load it crashes after the press any key screen. ive tryed verifying the files uninstalling then reinstalling it, updating all drivers and still nothing works please help

after installing i keep getting the 'the application has failed to start correctly (0xc000007b)' crash message. i'm running it on win7 64bit, meet the requirements and have the latest drivers. help?

Try and navigate to /steam/steamapps/common/mass effect 2/binaries, right click the Me2.exe and select run as administrator.

i tried that as well. i even uninstalled and reinstalled by launching the setup file through the 'run as administrator' option. no effect.

I've been able to play this game until today. I've played it all of the way through and am now in the middle of a new story - steam crashes and has to be shut down via task manager when starting the game.
