Perhaps the engine of ME1 just couldn't possibly cope rendering the handsome, beautiful faces of the Vorcha. Knowing that, the team, who obviously all love Vorcha the most, decided to wait until ME2 where they could fully do them justice.
Only the engine that could properly worship Miranda's lovely bum would be able to accurately display the wonder to behold that is the Vorcha after all.

IIRC, we were lucky to get Batarians at all - weren't they a BDTS only thing? In the main game (one of those UNC missions?) you have to disable a Nuke. The antagonist looks human, but was supposed to be a batarian.
It would have been cool to have Vorcha in ME1. I might have to do another ME1-2 run - cause memories.
