Because I have zero imagination, my characters would probably all listen to the same kind of music I do, so I'll go with Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians." Also, it has a timeless quality to it and is a pretty important piece of music, so it's likely to be known about hundreds of years from now:

Its almost unbeaten wonderful and amazing. It has the perfect emotions for an unknown expedition to new world! A masterpiece of composition!
