No reminders, baggage or relics of the previous trilogy, pls.
How about an ex-Cerberus character who survived the Reaper "upgrades?"

This is the only real reason why I would say no.
Otherwise, sure why the hell not.

I believe it was confirmed that we leave 3 years after ME3. Or at least the game is set 3 years after ME3.
When was this confirmed? From what I have read ME:A will take place a very long time after ME3, like several hundred years after.

And remember in Mass Effect 2 everyone was working for Cerberus. Even Shepard.
And did I like that? Forced to play in the shoes of the enemy faction and even being hated by your LI because of it? No, even though I love the game otherwise. I don't want BW to make us play as character that has anything to do with Cerberus again. Ever. And an ex-Cerberus LI? Wouldn't touch even with a ten foot pole.
I also have no problems playing as a low level character, a rookie or even someone without anykind of military training, an average Joe, but I don't see any appeal playing as some scumbag that everyone is happy to get rid off.

I seem to remember three years from somewhere. Definitely not several hundred years cause it was said that we would get a few cameos and everyone beside the Asari and maybe Javik would be long dead.

Fair enough. Maybe we can reach a compromise and give Ryder multiple past choices. Like in Mass Effect 1 just with more details.

Good question. One that should have been asked when it was revealed we're leaving the Milky Way.

So you would be fine with reminders of the old trilogy if we would have stayed in the Milky Way?

Since Shepard also had some variations to choose from, they'll probably will do that. I just hope that those backgrounds would have larger impact on the character, much more so than what it had on Shepard.

Not a big fan of anything Cerberus, even though your idea is pretty cool.
Well it could happen. Mayber we will learn during the game that we aren't a group of hand picked specialists sent to colonize the Andromeda galaxy, but a bunch of people the Citadel Council does not want anywhere near them and they hope we all die during the mission. That could leave us will all sorts of nasty characters, or at the very least nice characters with lots of skeletons in their closets.
This would be an awesome plot twist.

Depends on the reminders.
But if we're abandoning the setting entirely, make a clean break. Heck I don't even want "Mass Effect" in the title!

Agreed. Shepard's background had little to no impact on ME1. Ryder's should have more.

I would love to "romance" a ex-phantom and it would be very interesting.
Wonder if they look like the other soldiers under their helmets.

Well, this is going well.
Seriously, Cerberus is so annoying in ME3 that completely eliminating even a codex entry for them would be fine with me. The Nemesis gif just got me thinking about a situation where one of the main characters had occasional bouts of delusion or catastrophic phobias - that would be a fun character. Of course we did already have Jack, but Jack just hated everything in the universe.
I've got it. Eliminate Derperus and let's make the Asari character the one with these issues. That would be a hoot. I'm serious, BTW.

A crazy asari? Why not make everyone crazy? Let's make an asylum ship. Give one dissociative idenitity disorder. Two squadmates for the price of one.

Didn't Jade Empire do something like that with Wild Flower? Except that was demonic possession I think.
Actually, I think that was three characters in one now that I think about it...

Yep it was three squadmates for the price of a little kid. Come to think of it, Jade Empire had a very sweet character list. And you could even do a threesome.

No it wasn't. We have literally no official or leaked information on that. Besides, it goes against common sense for the ship to leave after ME3. And a three year journey to Andromeda would break the lore even more than what it already potentially does.I believe it was confirmed that we leave 3 years after ME3. Or at least the game is set 3 years after ME3.

I could trace this claim to a news article from way back when the first teasers came and we still only knew the game as Mass Effect 4.

I do see where it says some cameos are expected, but right before that it says that there will be little to no mention of Shepard or anyone else from the original trilogy. It also doesn't mention anything about ME:A taking place 3 years later. The only cameo I'm really expecting is Admiral Hackett or one of the members of the council giving a speech about ensuring the survival of the races.

No thanks. New start, new people, new stories. Cerberus should remain in the Milky Way.

Well we obviously aren't going to bring whole factions with us, but preferrably we will all come for various political and ethnic backgrounds. By we I mean the whole squad.

Still, Hackett won't surive several hundred years. Asari definitely live that long. Maybe Krogan, perhaps Proteans.
