I think the body in DAO is not perfect either,it's too muscular,it always reminds me Sylvester Stallone...but Solas! Stick man ain't got nothing on you, dude!

The male elf body model in DAO is the same one they use for all the races, just squished. And the armor Solas is wearing makes every guy who wears it look hideous.

If they just go with the concept art in DA2 - lithe, compactly muscled, but obviously skinnier/bonier than the other races - they'd be fine. Solas looks great in his normal Skyhold outfit. He's obviously slender, but his clothes at least give him the illusion of shoulders that taper down into a masculine waistline.

I think out of all elves Solas is only male elf in DA:I with normal elf male body(that armor is only making it look weird).

Rest of male elves all share female elf body, minus bewbs....though they still have it....same size I had once I hit puberty lol

If they decides to make to new DA game closer to reality, elves can get fat too (no offense!). They could make the merchant elves or the non-fighter elves more chunky looking...If I'd ever play as an elf again,I wish there could be 3 sets of body types I can choose from...I want a softer and cuter body type, not too much or too little! I think BioWare do need to find the balance, not the extreme of either side.

Actually the armour does have a lot to do with it.   When I put Dalish scout armour on my PC he looked a lot less skinny.   I have a screen shot (I'd post it but I'm useless at that) of the party sideways on walking towards Abelas in the Temple of Mythal with Dorian just behind my Lavellan and he doesn't look any less stocky in his legs than Dorian, has a decent chest and muscles to his upper arm.    However, Solas in the background with his Keeper Robes does look skinny and shallow chested.

I was really glad when they gave us different outfits for use around Skyhold because the beige outfit definitely did him no favours (but it looked pretty awful on everyone).   Still it is evident that which outfit/armour you put your elven PC in does make a big difference to the overall physique.    I think which graphics card you are using makes a difference too.   When my card updated and optimised the game to work with it, it made a big difference to the look of my elf even in the beige suit.

Solas is likely to look paler and thinner because I think that is the look they were going for with the ancient elves.   They are meant to be taller than modern elves too but that wasn't really apparent with Solas.

Sadly, Fenris from DA2 was the broadest of DA2 elves. All the other elf men were stick thin. >_<

I'm with vertigomez. Ideally male elves should be slightly thinner and lither than human men, but not to stick figure levels.

On the plus side, I recently found a DAI custom body model mod. One of the best finds of the new year. Gonna use it for my next male elf (to romance Cassandra) to give him just a little more meat on his bones. (I could tolerate it for the male elf who romanced Dorian since he was the little spoon in that relationship, but enough is enough.)

This is part of the reason why I can never play as an elf.

I think they should just go for Solas' body type (Not the one he has in THAT armor obviously)

Broad shoulders and a proportioned musculature, but still noticeably more slight and slender than the humans.

Really, that's their best elf design yet.

THIS!!! Why are there no chubby elves, even NPCs? They all have super fast metabolisms? Do their taste buds not work, so they don't enjoy food? Is Solas stealing all the elves' food to sustain his divine physique? Word on the street is that we may get different body types in the next game as they already have all the models from Inquisition at their disposal. Allegedly they didn't in Inquisition because they couldn't afford to have that many body models made. Next time they can add a few more to their collection and hopefully make Thedas a little more diverse. DAO elves were my favorite. The female elves in DAI look sickly thin as well, especially in the arms, thighs, and neck. I miss my healthy looking Tabris. :(((

Heh, OP used a Fenris image from my markings mod.

I couldn't stand the male body in DAO, and this is from someone who is into men. Everything was way too sculpted and the sameness was just jarring. I thought the DAI male bodies were great: not too much definition, but still muscular, but the similarities weren't as noticeable in, say, the Dorian post-sex scene with a human Inquisitor.

This is a result of how the armor is made in these games, particular the onepiece outfits. They're all the same form and you're not wearing the armor over the body. I would say that it's actually a problem with consistency in armor design. If they were to design a body, and then the armor so it actually looked like it was being worn over that body, a lot of it would look quite different. In that sense, I would say that the elf armored look is more accurate, since it gives them some bulk, as it should.

Yeah, OP using Fenris was a poor example, since he has an unique body model anyway. There are plenty of other slope-shouldered male elves walking around DA2 that Fenris would break in half. He is an exception, not the rule in that game.

For the same reason there aren't chubby humans or Qunari or dwarves: Bioware uses the same body models for each race and gender. DAO is the ONLY time we have seen non-standard shapes for humans, and those were limited to three or four men and a single woman. And even then, they were all the same level of fatness since those models were reused for those fat NPCs.

That is how Bioware does bodies in these games. This body issue will not change, ever, unless they decide that there should be actual body variation.

I dunno... I liked the way my Inquisitor's ass looked in it ;}. The front view is rather, um, suggestive as well. Hooray for leather pants!

Fat people among the impoverished city elves and the forest dwelling Dalish?

It seems unlikely.

Not manboobies...just stop getting thinner. Kinda like in The Sims 3 or The Sims 4 you can make the whole body bigger and wider, not just one part of the body...if they could make the new DA game's cc system more like The Sims 3 or 4,that would be AMAZING!!

But you know what's funny? The important and named elven characters like Solas, Abelas, Fenris and Sera get their own body models, better than the elf PC's.

Why? Because even the devs know that the elves have been looking like crap since DA2. And yet they won't change that.

Holy *ish...yes!! Ha! This is the link http://www.nexusmods...ge2/mods/3927/? Didn't know it was you,NICE JOB,man!

As I always said,I agreed with the DAO body type part. I'm gay also, and I just don't find that Mr.Muscle looking body attractive at all...they could make the elves' body types softer and a bit slimmer than Human,yes... I wish the elves' body type can be more like a swimmer athlete's body type, not the weight lifter's.

Hmmm...that reminds me Iron Bull's nippl*s are way lower than any other Qunari including the Qunari inquisitor... But since DA2,the character couldn't even get topless anymore, til that Qunari Armor DLC came out,and everybody looks pretty nice in it except Solas...why?? Why all the elves keep getting worse and worse.....do elves has nothing to eat but leaves?

 I'm astonished you felt the need to answer that sarcastic question literally. This is the problem with tone not easily coming across in writing. I know video game characters can't appear fat unless the developers make them look that way. I was trying to be silly. BioWare has made unique body models for some NPCs, but they haven't made body variation a priority. Dragon Age and Mass Effect aren't Sims 2 or Dragon's Dogma. As far as this changing...it might in the future. I heard or read some Q&A where devs actually talked about the possibility of adding body variation in the future, so it may be coming. Then I can make my overweight elf or my scrawny dwarf. Maybe some of you can't imagine how an elf in Thedas could possibly end up fat, but I can. Tee hee. :D

That's that emotes are for! :P

It's more the result of people actually asking this question in a serious manner. I've seen numerous threads related to hair, armor, bodies, etc over the years are most of them are quite serious.

I too would like some sort of body slider. I play human. I have no desire to play any other race. But I cannot stand how the bulky human male looks as a mage. I do not want a muscle-bound beefcake mage. This is the reason I never made a male Hawke mage -- the gigantic bicep on the iconic Champion armor was absurd, -- nor a male Inquisitor mage.

If Bioware wants an inspiration for Elven body types, they should look at Olympic long distance runners. Olympic endurance runners look lean but they do not look malnourished and more importantly, they do not look like their arms are glued.

I'm still not sure if Solas has his own unique body model or if it's just his clothes that make him look broader. Or the fact that so many screenshots have him juxtaposed with tiny female elves.

Here's the DA2 concept art elf guy. I like him.

That would be fantastic, though I believe the reason Bioware gave for not doing that was the amount of resources needed to implement it versus the resources they needed to implement human/elf/dwarf/qunari bodies.

I could see a system where height and frame are fixed by race and gender (For cutscene animation reasons) but we get sliders for muscle tone and other things that hopefully wouldn't make cutscenes too much of a nightmare to develop.
