I also love the elf girl there. No noodle arms or giant head. Can you imagine?

I don't like how busty she is in proportion to her thinness, though. She looks as stacked as the dwarf. :/

Dude, this is a video game, the ladies have to have the big boobies!  :P

But seriously, I'm on ME1 right now and I really appreciate how small Ash and femShep's boobs are.  Makes me happy, better than all these slim girls with huge knockers.  We need more small chested women in games, I should start a petition!  Have a feeling I wouldn't get many signatures.

Um... can we compromise here? Just hear me out: They would be small chested women with Miranda's ass.

I could live with that.

I'm still not sure if Solas has his own unique body model or if it's just his clothes that make him look broader. Or the fact that so many screenshots have him juxtaposed with tiny female elves.

Here's the DA2 concept art elf guy. I like him.

Spoiler

I think Solas is taller, thicker and broader than a PC elf. But I think that's also intentional - to show how a modern elf is "diminished" by the Veil.

I dunno... he looks pretty skinny to me.

The thinness might've been OK if their heads were slightly smaller or something.

Something's off.

Yes, I appreciate some variety. :P It's just especially incongruous on elven women, who have so little body fat already.

Yeah, but PC elf is even thinner.

He seems normally proportioned. And I'd wager his arms are thicker - as are his shoulders - compared to the e.g. Skyhold pjjama elf.

Yeah, out of all the races elven women should be the most flat chested, based on their body type.

Here's a pic of them both.

My belief is either they have some sort of genetic hormonal issue(s), or that this is meant to show the general degradation of their genome due to the Veil's creation.

Although, IMO Solas does not look much better.  He doesn't have the bobble head, though.

That would be fantastic, though I believe the reason Bioware gave for not doing that was the amount of resources needed to implement it versus the resources they needed to implement human/elf/dwarf/qunari bodies.

I could see a system where height and frame are fixed by race and gender (For cutscene animation reasons) but we get sliders for muscle tone and other things that hopefully wouldn't make cutscenes too much of a nightmare to develop.

I wouldn't be surprised if the cutscenes, particularly romance ones where we are physically interacting (kissing, etc) with other people is one main roadblock for them.

If I'm completely honest, I would trade body variety for cutscene detail every time. I loved the way they were done in DAI and I want more of the same in DA4. Speaking only for myself, of course.

Somewhat related, the only thing I really missed out of all cutscenes was after the final group scene in Trespasser. After everyone leaves and your LI returns to stand by your side. I would have really liked some sort of gesture -- hand holding, or something -- to make it totally perfect. (Ideally the LI shouldn't have left at all and just remained, but I think they did that to account for follower spacing so they could plug in all of the LI for that final scene.)

I think they look a bit out of place because of how thin the male elf is. The other race models have that level of development as well, but it seems more natural on the muscular forms of the human, Qunari, and dwarf males.

[edit]
Hm, this has actually inspired me to do a normal map edit (responsible for the shading) to see how it works out. Even though it doesn't look as bad on my human, it is still a bit more defined than I would prefer.

I dislike the DAI female proportions as well. Fem Hawke was more to my taste. Not a stick, curvy in all the right places, and a well-proportioned bust. Additionally, I used mods in DAO to make the bodies more proportional, resulting in a smaller, more realistic bust.

Image courtesy of the Rak_LaceyUnderalls mod, which I did use for my gal. Yes, she still looks like a model, but I think it is still more realistic than the form suggested by the PJs. BUT!! I do think that the DAI nude form worked out pretty well and looks good, but that it just doesn't match the shape of the PJs; it's as if they are two different bodies (which they technically are).

Hnnn, I guess I hadn't noticed because I haven't played any human lady Inquisitors. Are their models off?

Well, it's just a personal preference. I see the human female as having the same issue as the elf female that you see. It's really just a problem with the PJ model. To me it just screams, "Look at my BOOBS!" And I'd imagine that it would be quite distracting for any of the followers interested in women.

Just another way Dorian > all men, I suppose. I kid... sort of. :P

Bioware should just re-capture their walking animations for the cutscenes, cause damn...they can look rough sometimes.

I dunno, the male Inquisitor's pants are awfully snug. ;)

I honestly don't know what they were thinking with the PJs, though. They're so tight! The Inquisitor must be incredibly confident to strut around in that getup!

Am I the only one who likes elves being uber-thin? It makes them more distinct from humans. I personally find it ideal if nonhumans fall into a certain degree of proportion-based uncanny valley; they are different.

Well, I've gotten so used to it that I think my guy actually looks good, especially with my own modded dark version. But as a non-owner of such paraphernalia, I do wonder how comfortable it is, or rather, is not. And as for those random boners guys get during the day, yeah I'm sure that wouldn't be obvious AT ALL in those pants. Dorian's too, for that matter.

Okay... I've spent way too much time thinking about this now. Lol...

I like the thinness. Solas looks great, the concept art looks great, Merrill and Fenris looked great (besides Merrill's neck issue in that one scene...). It's just not always well-executed.

But as with anything, YMMV. I certainly don't want them to look just like humans.

It's okay. Sometimes I use Sera as my PC just so I can stare at her butt.

eta; That's a great mod!

It would be nice to see some muscular, and fat elves in the future.
