*Ba Dum Tsss*
Okay so just to recap. What we need is a villain who:
The hero and the player has a good personal reason to hate.
Has a clear goal and motivation that makes sense.
Has a good reason for being evil beside the whole You wouldn't understand because you are a puny mortal cliché.
His good reason isn't something like a bad childhood that would end up making him/her(please?) less threatening (*cough* Darth Vader *cough*)
Doesn't run away from 99% of his fights just to be a recurring threat (Like old Kai Leng)
But is still around in some form for the majority of the game.
Did I get everything?
Another point - can the Council/politicians/guys in charge/Alliance not be a bunch of dumbasses who can't see the big problems? Can we NOT be the only one who truly understands the terrible threat, fighting the authorities who all want to look the other way? ME1 is super bad for that.
That was DA:O, and all of ME1 and ME2 as well as a bit of DA:I. I'm tired of it. Hows about they actually be competent ppl who acknowledge the threat, respect your abilities, talk to you all nice like, and entrust you to do the right thing whilst they try super hard from their end as well?

To be fair to DAO, most of the leaders saw the big problem but it was more they couldn't do anything to stop it until the smaller problem they were dealing with was taken care of.

Lmao!
But think about it.. If the politicians weren't morons who can't see out of their arses then Shepard would not have a purpose.
On a side note that really pissed me off in Trespasser, what you're talking about. If my TV wasn't so bloody beautiful I would have punched it every time I saw Teagan's face.
Yep, I know, but Shep could still have a purpose, they could have evened it out a little and not had so much stupidity from the Alliance and Council. The way they ignore everything while Shep is dead is ridiculous.
Oh and that's not Teagan. That's an ugly imposter with the wrong hair who took over his role as Arl for evil nefarious purposes. Not Teagan. Nope. Teagan was a dreamy guy I flirted with in Redcliffe so.....nope. ![]()

Yeahhh I know. You're right.

Most punchworthy face of 2015 goes to... Bann Teagan, Trespasser Dlc, Dragon Age Inquisition.
Seriously I liked that dlc but I don't think I can do it again without wreaking my TV jeez
Hah! You may need to form a line, there are quite a few ppl flexing their knuckles in that particular queue. ![]()
I wish it was easier to mod DA:I, then he could just have some surgery.
His good reason isn't something like a bad childhood that would end up making him/her(please?) less threatening (*cough* Darth Vader *cough*)
To be fair to Anakin, he did genocide an entire clan of sand people for the death of his mother, which I guess was the start of his downfall. One should cherish this moment. This might be the one and only time in all of time that I would ever defend the prequel Anakin.
It's not a Bioware villain, but Pagan Min from Far Cry 4 is one of my most favourite villains...
**FAR CRY 4 SPOILERS** (don't know how to spoiler tag)
I hated him throughout the whole game, he shoots someone in front of me and then takes a selfie with me... and then I am 'rescued' by the good guys and sent on a mission to take down Pagan Min and reclaim Kyrat from his tyrannical grasp. Turns out, Pagan Min is the only guy throughout the entire game that doesn't lie to me? He's a dick, but he wasn't a dick until his lover (your mother) and his child (your half sister) are murdered by your own father... which you don't find out until the end of the game. I let him fly away in his helicopter after that, especially since the other two idiots turn out to be just as tyrannical. I have mad respect for characters that can stop me shooting from shooting them by asking me to stay for dinner LOL
Also when he says "I sent the servants home early, but you probably killed them on your way up..." I was all like DAMN I totally did!
**END OF SPOILERS**
So yeah I'm totally down for a bad guy who might just be an ******* or even have legitimate believable reasons for doing things. Actually what would be really cool is if ME:A is another trilogy, and the 'bad guy' from the first ends up being right, but now you've killed them, and whatever you were fighting to save becomes the problem. I'm not explaining it very well, but you probably get my drift...

The Authority should only have a problem with you if you legit are somewhat of a problem.
The Expedition is about survival... You should be only viewed as a problem if you are perceived as hindering that.
Example: Lets say that the Turian Food supply has been tainted, sabotaged or whatever leaving them at only Half the amount that was projected for their needs. The Salarians can whip up a buttload of it if they have a location with the proper necessary elements.
The location however would be effectively Terraformed making it it unusable to current wildlife. The best and more preferred spot however turns out to be a Local races primary food production area with no accessible alternative in the area -THE IRONY- Futhermore you don't have the alternative foodstuffs so NO you can't just supply the locals with the needed food in exchange for the land
So you are faced with a choice... Risk the dwindling supply, whatever casualties that incurs and hope to find a new location much to your allies chagrin who'd prefer to deal with this issue before it becomes a crisis or Hold your nose, and hope the locals can adapt/cope with the sudden lose of their major food production.
Also interesting: villain could be your initial LI. One night stand, turns into stalker richest person in galaxy.
Genius. Reminds me of an old post of mine. Also interesting: villain could be your initial LI. One night stand, turns into stalker richest person in galaxy.
In keeping with the spirit of the forum this was inevitable, and would have happened sooner or later.
Though this could be a first for the franchise, right? Like say a character who's the pc's CO or something?
Me personally...
Spoiler
What say you BSN?
The tension and emotion!!! Final scene when you defeat him/her; holding dying bleeding LI in the rain, apologies, tears only to find out it's been a simple misunderstanding from the start.Hell yeah. Ultimate rivalmance.
Fall passionately in lust, do the deed then find out they're the antagonist.
The story then becomes a struggle between sexual tension and having to kill them.

EPIC CROSSOVER, anyone?
Hmmm. I like the idea of the LI as the "bad gal/guy" as much as if the bad guy was your character from the future.

Play Sith. Especially Sith Inquis. Most fun you'll ever have. Just make sure -- bottom right. After all, you are a Sith.
Female Sith Inquisitor can be really bitchy, which is fun when you talk to Imperial military and said "yawnnnn" when they want to get you to be serious... then again, EVERYONE called you a slave so I get how she could become very DS and hungry for power. She speaks like a chav which is really adorable.
Playing a villain and against the main antagonist is fun. They really took it up a notch in SWTOR. Like, I'm the better villain than you and I'm going to kill you and laugh while you choke as I broke every bones in your body.. mwahaha
But seriously, if they could bring this again in their SP-games... it would be glorious

Does there have to be a villain? Colonizing a new galaxy is challenging I imagine. You have unknown environments, species, technology, etc you have to wade through. Each place you visit could have its own story. There doesn't have to be a Cerberus, Darkspawn, Reapers, or whatever that you're competing against. Andromeda could be the 'villain'.
I honestly don't care if there is a "villain". Actually, it would be nice if you could be considered a villain based on a different point of view. After all, it looks like we'll be trying to find a new home for humans and maybe our other fellow Milky Way ex-pats. I can imagine that to the natives of the planets we colonize that we can be seen as invaders and interlopers.
Heroes and villains are a bit binary and I would like to see the franchise continue to evolve away from that.
