Just had a PS3 match were I was always losing wired PS4controller connection because the PS4 connection is garbage due to being too loose and not snug. So the slightest movement will disconnect you, with plugging it out and back in being the most consistent fix. Then remembered there was a wireless update Sony made, so I looked it up and finally I can resolve this issue. Because the Sony gamepads before PS4 were always garbage in to many categories (all of them). At least PS4 is more ergonomic + has decent enough analog sticks this time. D-Pad is still garbage unless you use a D-Pad overlay like I do.

Only thing that sucks about not using hardwired gamepads is very slight latency. But what can you do when nobody in the industry knows how to make decent gamepads.

Bluetooth has a certain amount of unavoidable latency. It wasn't designed with real-time application in mind, or should I say, not with hard real-time use in mind. Doing hard real-time wireless communication is actually surprisingly hard, because selecting out all possible sources of interference gets exponentially harder as you try to do it faster.

^ So you're saying more evidence from Sony that they don't know how to make a proper gamepad?

Anyway. I'm hijacking this thread. Since there's really not much more to say on the subject;

- how to do send invites while in game on PS3?

- why are you always losing connection, TheBunz (hardwire your connection if it's not).

- TheBunz, you should of searched for that map and faction to try to find me again. I couldn't type it fast enough because pugs & slow PS3 interface. Anyway, that mission was a failure anyway. Bad map (London), too much Cerberus, one pug kept dying and I was a kit that needed pug decoys to function more freely & aggressively (close quarter power spam Smashguard. Really didn't have anything dps wise for range).

I'm saying that Bluetooth is the best we've got for now, and it isn't designed to cope with hard real time.

Oops. Have to take my like away. Found this;

Both consoles' controllers provide great polling rates. In practice, the controller is one area the XB1 is technically better, though not due to physical controller design. The XB1 uses wifi direct instead of bluetooth and has numerous advantages, but in this case the most important being frequency (up to 5 Ghz versus 2.4 Ghz) and data transfer (250 Mbps versus 25 Mbps). Frequency matters because higher frequency equals better response and transfer matters because of headsets and potentionally any other wireless devices that might come out such as cameras.

Sony didn't even put Bluetooth 4.0 in the PS4 and instead used the older 2.1 whch only widened the gap. The point being that the DS4, by design, can't be any more responsive than last gen while wifi direct offers increased response. Compared to Bluetooth 4.0, wifi direct is superior in most categories. Compared to Bluetooth 2.1 which is in the PS4, there is no contest. The PS4 has some major trump cards versus the XB1, but controller wireless technology isn't one of them.

Too lazy to search how right this guy is, so wondering is someone here knows which console/gamepad has less wireless button input delay.

  They've used the same design since PS1.... is that saying something?

I've tried using the DS4 Controller for ME3MP before.

My experience was, that the input is more accurate, but the sensitivity seems a little bit slower.

Btw,... I had some serious issues with DS4 repose lags, while my PS4 stood nearby my Wireless Router.

Sometimes it doesn't response and then it didn't recognize that I've stopped pulling a Trigger or the Sticks.

Now, there is half a meter between those devices and I do not suffer any issues any more.

How ever, with the PS3 I had never problems with the DS3.

^ It may seem slower because you have more control over it. The best way to explain this is like to say on PS3 it feels like it's skipping frames. While on PS4 you have more frames. But it's all an illusion. You just have more control on PS4 because the sticks are shorter and you have more resistance counterweight fighting against you. VS On PS3 were the sticks are too long and almost no resistance against you (ie. imagine if the sticks had no resistance as an extreme example of how much that would be lame).

But yes, whenever I was playing ME3mp on WiiU Pro Controller and PS3 analog sticks, I always overshot my aim by a lot. So you PS3/WiiU owners moving onto PS4/360 analog sticks must undershot everything (because you guys are used to less analog sticks movement doing more, why it's also less precise).

Although longer sticks would mean greater precision...all else being equal.  Similar thumb movements would create smaller angular motions for longer sticks.  Pretty much the whole reason why Kontrol Freek even exists.

I suspect it's mostly the lesser resistance in the PS3 sticks that bothers your control.

Edit: I noticed the same thing with the spare XBOX controller I'm using for PC.  It's one of those transparent 'Afterglow' jobs, and the sticks feel noticeably more wobbly.  It might be a sensory illusion that wobbly sticks just feel longer/taller...more aware of the travel.

ME3mp & Trilogy isn't the only games I own and played for both consoles. I also own the entire Demon/Dark Souls series for both consoles too (whoever has me on FL for either consoles can verify. Along with Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3/NV, and a bunch more for both consoles too). And the DS series I've practically put in equal amount of time with both version & gamepads for several playthroughs from start to end (I'm just as obsessed for DS series as ME series. And where I go to ME3mp retirement each time). And each time I return to the 360 gamepad from PS3, it always felt worlds better in just the analog sticks alone. Never mind ergonomics & better shoulder button too. Why I'm so glad the PS4 DS finally solves most PS3 DS issues (well, the new USB connecting into the gamepad is way worse because it's far from snug with the slightest movement disconnecting), as I've been looking for a PS3 replacement locally for some time now (sadly all those other PS3 gamepads I bought turned out trash too. But it was worth trying for).

(I've also obsessed over gamepad controllers since SNES/Genesis era. And since whenever a new console was announced and released, comparing the controller for both would always be the first thing I do. So don't take my opinion on the matter as causal either. It's something I've always obsessed over)

EDIT - yeah. Yeah, I bought one of those stupid afterglow ones too when I was looking for PS3 replacement gamepads. I use as a kitty toy now.

  I hate to quote myself but I'd also like to add that they continuously made the previous gen controller incompatiable with the newer one even though they are exactly the same functionally.  A total money grab I say!
