I found the friendship/rivalry system to be somewhat jarring in how extreme answers and reactions could be.  However I did like some of the scenario the conflict brought up, and how some romance elements intertwined with it.

So I think some version of this could be a nice thing to implement.  But it would have to be somewhat more subtle....probably.

I would prefer a separate tracking of affection/attraction and approval. Neither value should be visible to the player. Attraction would be influenced by romantic dialogue (which should have several options and not all of them should be the "right" ones for that character) and approval by actions and choices outside of romantic moments.

Really? You mean you don't know when you've hit a hot button? I forget that most conversation these days is done electronically and not in person. Call me a luddite, but I still prefer face to face conversation over texting. There a cues that happen that are pretty obvious when someone is displeased with what's said or done. Perhaps we should do things more realistically in the MEU and have your squadmate text you even though they're standing nearby. Nevertheless, you should be made aware. Of course some people are completely socially inept and won't pick up on things until they're hit over the head.

Please note that I'm not just talking about romance here. This is not about the dating sim part of the game, although I would imagine it would be difficult to have relationship with the hottie you just ******* off royally.... unless you have Shepard's silver tongue that can hit the I win button all the time. Do you guys really want that?

One of the things that made ME3 very unrealistic was the way some people treated Liara. They played kick the puppy with her while she was doing everything she could to help Shepard. Kick her enough times, and she should have left to help Hackett, and deprived Shepard of some information resources.

Do enough evil deeds in DAO, especially if you desecrated Andraste's Ashes and Wynne would leave. Bioware shouldn't have given you the out of taking a sample of the ashes to cure Connor before desecrating them. Well, maybe you should have had it, but it shouldn't have been suggested to you by the "Andraste" Dragon cult.

No thank you. The Rivalry system makes no sense, since why would someone who despises what you do and what you stand for risk their life on a daily basis for you or get in a relationship with you?

Because they want to 1-up you? It's not too hard to figured out...

Ah... I failed to express myself clearly enough. Sorry.

What I meant was that there should be no approval meters visible to the player, or any "NPC X liked this" messages. Instead the cue should be the NPC's facial expression, body language and dialogue that tells you how much they like or dislike you. It should make the player pay attention to the NPC's reactions instead of watching a progress meter.

I'm totally fine with NPCs leaving if you cheesed them off enough. Or murdering the protagonist in their sleep.
