Various comments and questions I have concerning DA:I

I have been a fan of the franchise since DA:O purchased and played all the games and DLC's and DA:I hasn't dissapointed.

However,

1.

I was dissapointed that there wasn't any real attempt to have Rifdon and Haven resemble their DA:O selves, so I theorized this might be for two reasons.  1.  The people who designed and made those towns in DA:O no longer work at BioWare and thus, BioWare no longer has the rights.  2. Pride?  The new designers didn't want to rehash someone else's work.

I don't think it was due to technical reasons, but correct me if I'm wrong.

2.  There was a much hyped feature of the game that was even included in some of the sneak-peak previews that was dropped on releaseand I was wondering what happened?  The idea that we could lose some of the fortresses we took and that we'd have some real consequential choices to make concerrning the attacks.  In the video example it shows you come across a group of wounded Inquisition soldiers, you are then given the option of saving the soldiers or going back to your fortress that is under siege.  I don't necessarily bemoan the loss just curious on what the decision was?

I haven't checked the forums, since release, so I'm sure these topics have already been discussed, but any help would be appreciated.

1 "Rifdon"?? Redcliffe?

As for your question, I don't think it is either of these, although I agree that it would have been fun to see them as shinier DAO-style versions. I think they constructed Haven to fit the purpose of DAI specifically, serving as a war camp, and that's all.

2 That aspect of the game was cut due to time and technical limitations compounded by last-gen console requirements.

Ah, good old Rifden, it's my favourite place in the whole game.  :P

Yes but I know what you mean, but then Darkspawn were completely remodelled in DA2 to the point where shrieks were turned from bug creatures to now being regular darkspawn with ninja skills.

I suppose Redcliffe and Haven were just a chance to start again, and the creative types were all like 'ooh I know let's do it like this'.  I wish they both resembled the old towns more, I must admit.

@ArcadiaGrey I blame it being 5am for forgetting Redcliffe.

Yes, don't get me started on the remodels in DA:2.

I guess my first question is still kind of unanswerable does BioWare own all the material in the games or can individual concept designers own the material instead?  All I wanted was for the chapels to be in the same places and that you go downhill into Redcilffe and uphill into Haven.  Also, what happened to that big castle in Haven DA:O where you do all the fighting?  I thought it was only the place with Andraste ashes that get's blown-up?

Consoles again, it would be nice if they included that gameplay in a DLC at the very least.

edit:  Why did they ditch desire demons?  If the demon was too racy couldn't they just put a robe on her and include her in the game again?

Bioware likely owns everything. As I said, they probably made Haven that way to conform to their needs for DAI.

I'm confused about your statement: "Also, what happened to that big castle in Haven DA:O where you do all the fighting?"

There is not a "castle" in the village of Haven. You go up the hill to the Chantry where you confront Father Eirik, do some fighting, and find Brother Genitivi. After that, you go through the mountain passages and eventually end up at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, which, as you said, gets blown up during the Conclave in DAI. However, it is also stated in DAI that Haven and the Temple of Sacred Ashes underwent extensive renovations because the Chantry turned it into a pilgrimage destination, with Haven being the town to support that.

For the Redcliffe redesign, you can see what's left of the original town of Redcliffe if you look past the wrecked windmill up the hill from the village, implying that it was rebuilt after the Blight.

As for Haven, I would think that the new owners (you see Josephine talking with one of them about the Inquisition being situated at Haven in the Chantry) would've remodeled the town in an attempt to erase the traces of the cultists that originally lived there.

Then again, those are just speculation as to potential in-game reasons behind the changes in appearance for both.  For why they were redesigned by the developers, it could simply be that they wanted to reimagine the areas, though there's no real way to know for sure short of asking them directly.

As for the castle from DA:O at Haven, I believe that was the Temple of Sacred Ashes (assuming that's what you are talking about), which was destroyed at the beginning of DA:I.

Regarding the removed fort defense feature, I was disappointed that it was removed, as it would've made things more interesting.  I believe that nightscrawl's explanation is correct, though.

EDIT: nightscrawl explained the Haven redesign better than me.   :P

Nightscrawl I guess you forgot something...after you meet Genitivi in the chapel in Haven you both go up to a big castle where the Haven cult is based.  After you defeat the cult you go to where the dragon is and past him is the temple of sacred ashes.  I didn't think that castle/fortress was a chantry building, but I could be wrong.

I still don't see how Haven needed to be rebuilt completely(developers) all you needed was the chapel.

You are partly correct, and I did forget about that. That is the ruined Temple of Andraste. You do go through that, then into mountain passages where you eventually find Kolgrim, defeat him (or take his deal), then leave the mountain to go out to where the dragon is. We never see in outside of the Temple of Andraste because Brother Genitivi takes us to the doorway, so we don't actually know where it is in relation to everything else. In DAO, there is just a minor fade in/out where we leave with Genitivi -- he says, "Take me to the mountainside," -- and are suddenly at the doorway.

At any rate, it's just what the developers wanted to do. /shrug

I think he meant "Riften," which is a town in Skyrim.

This is a bit silly. Employees don't keep the rights to stuff they make for hire.

It would be hard to claim rights for Haven in any case, considering it's just a generic fantasy poophole in Origins.
