I haven't played many modern RPGs were you can use this weapon type (I only remember them in TES III). Would anyone like spears and halbeards been introduced in DA4?

And they should allow to use them both two-handed and with a shield (hoplite style).

I'd love to have the option, especially since Qunari enemies are able to use them.

But they are likely to end up as a low priority on the 'nice-to-have' list.  Consider how Bioware handles weapons in DAI: one animation set for all single handed weapons, one animation set for dual wielding (daggers), one animation set for bows (No more crossbows), one animation set for two handed weapons.

Granted, this might have been an issue of limited memory space thanks to last-gen consoles, so its possible we could see more...

I freely admit to being ignorant as to the correct fighting style with polearms. That said, I really don't want the combat animations to consist of *poke, poke, poke* repeatedly.

They could take inspiration from the Souls/Bloodborne games.

I always would've loved it if they'd add spears (and halberts). They could make halberts a more two-handed oriented weapon, whereas the spear could be used with a shield, and let you go all phalanx on yo enemies... on your own... tiny phalanx.

I also wish they'd add crossbows again. Even if they'd stick to the rigid class/weapon lock, they could add it as a ranged class for warriors, slower and stronger than rogue archers. They could even make you wield a pavise (a shield) with it, like crossbowmen in the late middle-ages did.

Granted that, with all of the above, it'd become pretty warrior-heavy, so maybe make spears a rogue weapon instead. Fast, swirly spear fighting rogue, and so on.

Just some thoughts.

That was hilarious to watch.

It goes without saying spears need different animations from greatswords (less cartoony animations for every weapon wouldn't hurt).

And yes, some Morning-stars/flails so we can kick enemies asses in creative ways.

If I had a flail and horns, I could pretend to be Valen Shadowbreath. There is no downside to this. B)

If warriors are going to be confined to weapon and shield or two-handed, then they may as well expand the range of two-handed weapons for 2H'ers to use. 2H needs a weapon that increases their DPS. A spear or halberd will do just fine. This can also help their range. But the drawback will be less damage, and no damage to those inside the warrior's striking range. If the enemy is too close then the weapon will not be as effective, and the warrior will have to choke up on the weapon and use the back end more.

But honestly I would rather warriors just get dual weapons and archery back so I can accurately spec my Hero of Ferelden when he returns in DA4.

If they did it I'd rather do it as its own talent tree. Have it emphasise battlefield control and reach.

I'm not sure it would be an efficient use of resources if it was just a variation on two handed weapons, since it'd need its own animations. Though I guess you could essentially redesign a two handed axe minimally and consider it a halberd.
