For the banter I like any combination that doesn't have Vivienne in it.

Dorian, Sera, Bull.  Also Dorian, Varric, Bull.  Or Dorian, Varric, Cassandra.  I don't like Solas, Cole, or Blackwall enough to take them out much of anywhere.  I will sporadically take Vivian out if I'm playing as a rogue since I like a two mage party. I never play as a warrior anymore.

If I am playing as a Rogue - Solas/Iron Bull/Cassandra or Vivienne - again depending on where I am going.

 

I am too in love with Solas and Iron Bull's conversation to ever give them up in a party. (Though if I am bringing Dorian for missions, I drop Iron Bull)

My favorite combination for my canon playthrough (Human Mage): Blackwall, Varric, Solas/Dorian (although I change my companions often depending on quests)

For the banter I like everyone with Sera. Especially Blackwall and Sera. Also Dorian and Bull. And Solas and Bull since I've heard Solas ask if Qunari wear shirts.

I change out characters pretty frequently, but I think my favorite group overall is probably Warrior!Quizze with Cole/Varric/Solas.

I usually go with Cass, Solas, and Cole. Or Iron Bull/Solas/Cole. Sometimes sub in Dorian for Solas, and Varric for Cole. Depends on how I'm feeling

For my Mage Inquisitor my favorite party includes Cassandra, Varric and Dorian/Solas.  I'll also take Cole in place of Varric but will make him an archer.

Bull, Vivienne, Blackwall, and ghost kid whose name I am forgetting almost never got picked unless I was forced to for their personal content. In fact I would have been fine if those 4 were relegated to NPC status as I disliked them quite a bit.

I switch up a lot so I have set class slots several companions could fill. Though I have a  strong tendency to take Varric and Solas everywhere because I love their banter. I have to make a playthrough with a warrior so I can get more out of Sera, Cole and Dorian.

 

With my mage or rouge Inquisitor:

 

A.

1. Cass or Iron Bull

2. Almost always Solas

3. Varric, Sera, Dorian or Cole (in that order.)

 

B.

1. Cass

2. Iron Bull

3. Solas, Varric, Sera or Dorian (in that order)

 

Basically everyone but Blackwall and Vivienne because they're boring. Only take them if they're somehow linked to the story.

Okay yes I use Varric and Iron Bull a lot. I have attempted to spec Blackwall to be a 2h warrior and use him but for some reason he just doesn't have the survivability Iron Bull does. I expect its probably the Qunari racial benefit. So if I want a good 2h warrior it has to be Iron Bull. Of course it helps that he's one of my favourite companions.

 

As for Varric, I simply like him as he's usually fun to have along. His 'banter' with Cassandra irritates me though. Maybe I should trade her in for Blackwall as my tank for that file....

Blackwall and IB + rogue (since I'm playing mage)

I used to drag Cass with me and I really adore her so much.
But IB and Wall's "banana" banter cracks me up so hard, they made it through my 'perma' list. Idk what's going on, but in this game, all my favourite buds come from the warrior class.

It really depends on what kind of Inquisitor I am playing but overall I tend to favor Varric, Iron Bull, Cassandra/Blackwall, and Solas.

Dorian (LI), Cassandra, and Bull + my Assassin Archer Inquisitor. Sometimes I trade Bull with Sera (I made her dual dagger + maxed out her tempest) but rarely with Cole bc he was also an assassin. Sometimes I also trade Cass with Blackwall but it's rare bc I like Cass more as a character. (basically archer + mage + tank + melee dps) 

 

On my mage pt I usually bring another mage (usually Solas), a warrior (Cass) and an archer (usually Sera). But this pt is still in the beginnings of the game so who knew if I would prefer a different set up. (basically mage + mage + tank + ranged dps) then again sometimes I trade the second mage with another warrior esp if I think the battle ahead is rather tricky so my mage wouldn't be seen as a threat..

I usually stick with the typical mage-rogue-warrior combo, regardless of what class my Inquisitor is, but my A-team is absolutely Cass/Varric/Dorian for fighting as well as banter. It was Cass/Varric/Solas for a while, but I have a personal vendetta against Solas right now, oops. My backups are generally Dorian/Bull/Sera or Dorian/Bull/Cole, though I tend to like ranged rogues better since I've had better luck with them not dying right off the bat, and that's what Sera and Varric start out built for. But who knows? Maybe I'll throw in Blackwall this time around.

My rogue assassin Inquisitor took Dorian, Vivienne and Cassandra. My rift mage takes Vivienne, Sera, and Iron Bull.

As Rift Mage + fire skills(and human female to it) I most enjoy having in my party Sera, Iron Bull and Blackwall. They just so like eachother. Party banter is funny and friendly then.

When I took for a change Vivienne in, she starts to get bad blood with everyone else (poor Blackwall..). Now I rotate people in my party, to get different banters because my old team is now so silent most of time. But I can't get to keep Solas around. I even didnt get his fake Haven scene. He is totallly neutral with me( but points out I made a mistakes!) Maybe I will safe him for my Trespasser-Lovellas run  (I know who he rly is, done game once- just not with any dlc).
