Hi folks, Trying to get BG/TotSC reinstalled on my computer.  I've looked in every folder on my computer and there is not a trace of BG anywhere but every time I try to install the  game I get...

9a8b203fcaad23a844513226c0e07c.jpgWtf over???  One of my tutors on here, please come to my aid.  I'm getting ready to face withdrawal.  Not quite ready to start my next full-fledged run but I want to test out some new mods and NPCs a little before deciding on my setup.

Of course, that requires BG to be installed so I'm kinda screwed right now.  Thanks, CKT

So you installed it to the c: program files would be my first guess?

... if so then uninstall (and remove the old folder) then install to something like C: Games/ bg1 should fix it

p.s is this the gog version or an old disc?

You need to clear the registry. I don't recall the exact keys to remove, try looking for things like bgmain.exe, bgmain2.exe, on Baldur's Gate itself.

Looks like there are traces of a previous installation left in your registry. I'm not a big fan of cleantools - they usually cause more problems than they solve - but you might have to use Regcleaner to manually remove those traces. You can find a safe dl on MajorGeeks: http://www.majorgeek...sa=Search Files. Make sure to remove any traces in Backups too.

If all else fails, you could install in a fresh location.

When I had this problem a few years back, I installed in Black Isle) instead of Black Isle.

That solved the problem, though Flamedance's solution is definitely neater.

If you then want it to be in the Black Isle folder, you could then copy it over and edit the ini file in notepad so that the paths are correct.

I have found that the uninstall tool of BG doesn't work well and have instead found that the Add/Remove programs windows command works better.

Whether or not you are successful it would be worthwhile posting for the benefit of others. You are not unique in having this problem.

To echo others it's just a registry entry (one entry the uninstall section) - remove that then you're good to go.

Doodoo!  I've tried to regiuistry cleaners, searched our bgmain.exe, etc. and still can't get to where I can load.  I continue to get 'uninistsall' but when I click unistall nothing happens.  I'm snowed in under 24" of snow and would like to play around with some BG/TotSC ideas a mods but can't get there.

@ussnorway:  What is the GOG version?  I have an older four disk BG version but disk 1 is missing.  I recently ordered another online that had everything in one disk.  I bypassed C: Program Files as I always do and install directly to C:Black Isle/BG & TotSC.

I guess the good thing about this is is forcing me to read all of Le Morte de'Arthur and Game of Thrones book 1 (I've seen the five seasons but I want to go back and read them too).  This helps me to best role play the final PC I choose because you learn their character and tendencies by reading the books.

But...I'd rather be installing BG/TotSC right now, the SoA/ToB and Tutu.  Then going mod crazy.  :o

I would follow Wise's advice: you don't need to uninstall the version you've got - simply reinstall in a different location.  There's no problem in having multiple copies installed (I've currently got 6 lots of various sorts of BG installed).

The GOG version is sold by GOG.com - fully patched vanilla game tweaked to run on current operating systems.
