I liked it for its gameplay, dragon fights and the companion system was rather unique. The companion AI could be dumb at times but if you learned the mechanics then it's actually fun. Alot of ppl complained of RE5's AI but didn't bother to learn what causes the AI to aggro and its weapon preference. I like having a loot bot so I always went with Acquire/Explore. My pawn was badass though.

If I were to ever get into game development () then I'd build something with the combination of State of Decay and DD-DA. Great game.

I don't love The Witcher for the combat.  It isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly isn't shallow like all the Arkham clones.  It's everything else about The Witcher series that I love.  The lore, the setting, and most recently in the latest one, the gameplay is much more streamlined to promote using potions and bombs, so you actually feel like a witcher.  So much immersion!

The reason I gave Dragon's Dogma a try was because a friend I met while playing Dark Souls said that it reminded him a lot of Dragon's Dogma.  I still have no idea why he said that.

Playing The Witcher now, and I totally agree. Everything except the combat is par excellence. In comparison to Dragon Age, I do like the system for "pausing" combat to select Signs, Bombs, etc. - combat doesn't entirely stop, just slows down drastically, meaning you don't have the eternity to plan or react that DA gives you. Also like the option to slow down aiming skills.

Hm, I guess I'm one of the few who really enjoys the combat in TW3? At least, compared to DA:I, it feels smooth, responsive, and I can dodge and block.... The combat in DA:I isn't terrible, but it tries to combine a tactical RPG system like DA:O with an action RPG, and doesn't quite do either particularly well.

What I do like about DA:I combat vs TW3 is the variety, the different classes and abilities. HurkyKean is right, I can't see myself re-playing TW3 multiple times to try out different builds.

I enjoy the combat, but movement with respect to a target (other than dodging, which is well-implemented) is bizarre. I often find myself with my back to an enemy that I wanted to be facing instead, or vice versa. I don't find it smooth and responsive as a result. Targeting Igni and Aard is quite annoying most of the time. Could be a console issue, though - are you on PC? Also, the combat is rather repetitive in style unless you're fighting a contract monster. Is it a monster? Dodge. Is it a human? Block. Repeat as necessary. Fighting groups of enemies can be a fun challenge, but then target loss is constant.

I'm on PC, and you're right, targeting issues definitely do exist. I'm still early in the game, so I probably haven't had the time to have been saturated and truly annoyed by it yet, but so far it is kinda rare, even when I'm surrounded by bandits.

Igni though.... that sh*t just goes wherever it likes.

Just started playing DD: DA. Very good game so far. Went to Bitterblack Isle at level 7 and brought back a very OP bow... One that has fire enchanted. Steam rolling everything ever since. Might be because I'm still at early game though.

XD That bow saved my ass when I went to BBI (strider-strider) on hard. Actually I was really lucky opening THAT door. There is another one "there", but it is a longbow for ranger. It was crucial to improve my damage and go deeper and deeper in BBI (on hard monsters don't have more HP I think, but you take more damage and the stamina recovery is much slower). It is not BiS though. :) Don't want to spoil...

Have fun, guys. I envy you (I played the whole game for 400+ hours some months ago, so it was not worth for me to buy the PC version).

Yeah I died a couple times as a scrubby lv7 on BBI so I switched back to main quest... with that ultra potent bow at hand.

Only 2 games I want to play right now...

Dragon's Dogma ONLINE  (PS4)    (signed the online petition...like that's going to make any difference.....I barely speak my native tongue nevermind learning to read an imported JPN language game)

Phantasy Star 2 ONLINE    (PS4)    (Been years....yeah supposed to be happening....not holding my breath)

DAMP will have to do for now.......

I also liked Dragon's Dogma. If Dragon's Dogma had Bioware's cinematic flair then the game could go from good to astounding. Of course I also like DAI. Both games were overall very enjoyable. Still haven't played TW3, it took a back seat to Fallout 4.

Starting to get into this game. It's just like dragon age but without the pretty cinematics and the crafting system.

The skills are soooo similar to dragon age it's weird...

Those bitterblack isle gears are OP as hell. Are they supposed to be the best in game? Bitterblack isle is very tough and purifications require rift crystals, but to me it doesn't really make sense to allow access to end game OP gears so early in game which makes the main story line combats ultra boring and tedious.

They're not the best in the game, but they're better than everything in the mainland for sure. Mild spoilers here...Bitterblack Isle was intended for players who had entered New Game+ multiple times over since it wasn't originally included with the game. That's why the gear there outshines the stuff from the original game (basically anything you'll find in the main story).

As for the best gear in the game...more mild spoilers, but there's more to BBI than what you'll find in your first foray into that dungeon.

Psst... Just cleared BBI for the first time with ranger. All the boss fights are blood pumping and am feeling quite exhausted at the end of it. Ranged vocations seem to trump melee by miles.

I'd say most of the BBI boss fights are comparable to DAIMP RT HB zone 5, if not tougher. Particularly when you get multiple bosses abusing you at same time. And *THAT* one boss seems impossible to defeat. All attacks are insta kill, and disappears after emptying a small portion of his health. Is he there just for the lols?

The combat is great, except the absolutely retarded pawn AI... In DAISP at least you get tac cam or manually control your companions.

Well done. As for that one boss...nope, he's totally killable. When I played this on the 360 the pawns were good enough to actually avoid his instakill attacks while doing damage...that's how good pawns can get eventually. And you'll have access to items, abilities, and gear that can nuke him eventually too.

Assuming nothing has changed with the damage calculations, highest dps in the game is a max strength Assassin using Hundred Kisses after consuming a bunch of strength buffs. A single dagger swipe can knock off several health bars from the strongest bosses. It's pretty crazy. I'd say next highest is mystic knight, but the build and skills have to be really on point to make the most out of that vocation. That was my preferred class for the look and gameplay back when I played. Every other vocation is fairly balanced and respectably strong.

Except warrior. It's the lowest tier vocation in the best of circumstances (compared to the rest anyway). 2h warriors got no love in this game.

Why all this sudden talk about this game? Steam sale or something? I bought it day one on 360, and it remains one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I did everything on it. It's pretty much perfect to me. The music, the combat, the abilities (omg the insane spells!), the world, the immersion, the story (very philosophical), that moment where you thought you beat the game only to find so much more awesomeness waiting, the interactivity with the environment (lots of fun times getting creative with that)!

Yes, I'm just a wee bit of a fanatic of Dragon's Dogma...

All this is making me want to give it another go on the "endless cycle of eternal return".

Many fans of the game made a petition for a PC version. And recently their dreams came true.

Also many of us want Dragon's Dogma Online in West... Maybe if the PC version is successful we will have also DDO in Europe/USA... Who knows... And many of us would like a sequel as well (it's not confirmed, and actually for now is not probably).

IMO the only problems in the game are:

1) If you have a game with an excellent combat, don't shoot your own foot with big maps, poor enemies' diversity and silly AI (goblins, wolfs and many enemies should be more aggressive instead of screaming and making noise 3-4 seconds before they even start attacking). Smaller maps, more dungeons, more and harder enemies would be necessary to make the combat shine as it should and deserves. This is why I say always that I really love Dark Arisen but the main game is just decent-good (for the standards nowadays, not in 2012).

2) The roll for "rogues" is absolutely OP. No stamina cost, too many i-frames... An assassin can "parry" and roll all day long. Almost invincible. Roll should always have some stamina cost.

3) The spells are amazing, but the class sorcerer/mage is really boring. No evasive move (just the "floating jump"). You must spam spells with the right positioning and just wait for the "fireworks"... Somehow boring (without "somehow").

4) The spells of the enemies are really predictable. You see that "circle" on the ground... Then you have like 2 secs to escape. You could just walk to avoid them (outside is 100% safe). It should not be so obvious and easy to avoid spells I think.

5) Less, but more interesting side quests. Go here and there to talk at night with somebody is... Well... The travel system could be better too.

6) I would like to be able to give more specific orders and manage the behavior of my pawn (not just with the inclinations). Something similar to Dragon Age: Origins would be nice (I mean the option to set conditions and actions).

Still probably the best combat and build diversity in action RPGs (at least I don't know other games with better combat system). Ni-Oh is coming "soon" though.
