You brought it up.

You asked.

I was trying to be nice and answer your question. Silly me. Next time you ask a question that's off-topic, I'll remember what an ungracious jerkface you are about people trying to give an "off-topic" answer to your off-topic question.

What did he say that deserved that reply?

I know I am going to get some hate for this, but switch Sera out for Harding (can even see it happening over drinks).  Would switch Solas for Varric (dwarf female only).

Also make Sera an agent, and Harding a companion.

I never progressed past feelings of "like her, don't love her" with Cassandra.

And my opinion of her went down a bit in the last DLC. The Trespasser plot adds even more developments that make her and Leliana look incompetent (on top of all the main game's plot). Hell, she falls for Varric's BS for the umpteenth time. Then she whines about Divine Vivienne, and quits.

Inquisitor (in Trespasser): "She's not killing Solas, *I* am!"
--> Vivienne Greatly Approves
--> Cassandra Slightly Approves

This is why you're second-fiddle, Cassandra.

At least she approves of killing Solas.
That's why she and Vivienne are my favorites. What a shame they didn't make Viv a romance, I would have trouble deciding on who to romance.

I'd get rid of Solas.  But only because I dislike him so much.  I'd also get rid of Blackwall.  Dour McSads, that one.  I've yet to make any of my male inquisitors straight.  I tried to once.. but then there was Dorian.  I think Varric should have been romancable in DA2 for femHawke.  It seemed to me like that would have been a natural easy thing - they had such a great rapport.  I do think Scout Harding should be romancable.  She's cute as button with her freckles.  Not sure who else I would add back in though...

Solas might actually be my least favorite for a number of reasons. Has he not been who he was, had the romance been better fleshed out...maybe. As it stands, please remake DAI and trade in the Solasmance for a chance to tap Lord Woolsley's hot ramming horns.

Sera with Leliana. I really hate Sera and really wanted to romance Leliana in Inquisition as I never got a chance to play Origins.

My picks would be to replace Josephine and the Iron Bull with Leliana and Scout Harding.

Pull the Solas romance (did finish the romance, thought the vasallin should also have been a reveal for a friend-zoned Quizzy), although I do see the possibility for Solas actually having a 'meaningful real world' relationship/connection for the first time in hundreds of years, being a potential crisis point for him in the future (also possible with a friend-zoned Quizzy). But then maybe not with how he was in Trespasser. (my fav Quizzy, the male qunari wants to save him....the elf who romanced him wants to kill him)

Add in Harding, bi, like others have said, she's as cute as a button and I love her freckles (but don't her and Sera get together? If I was reading that epilogue card correctly)

Pull Iron Bull. Don't really care for his character/design/voice acting. And he just seems...dunno.

Add in Krem. Don't know which way Krem would go, but my current Quizzy is crunching on him.

Cut Cassandra and Josephine and add Briala and Leliana.

Cassandra is the least interesting character and LI for me. Josephine I like much better, but... the decision had to be made. I also considered Cullen but there is something interesting about him and the romance so Josephine (who's romance doesn't seem quite as interesting) it is.

I never liked Leliana in Origins and never romanced her. She was really creepy and unattractive in that game. In Inquisition she is so much more interesting and beautiful (I only wish she didn't still have that same haircut). I so wish she had been romance option... or that at least we could have flirted with her. Same with Briala. I love her in TME and wish she had bigger role in Inquisition. After what Celene did to her she deserves someone better.

I'd cut Blackwall and Josie, I think they have least interesting romances. From companions I'd replace them with Varric and Scout Harding, dwarfmances have been long time coming and those two would be pretty perfect as LI's. If I went with what I liked and I got to pick outside of companions I think I'd like Ser Barris to be one of the options.

How would Harding be more interesting than Josephine, given that she has far less content?

More content doesn't mean more interesting. If that was the case everyone would love Leliana most from DA characters.

I think it's personal preference. I think Harding would have been nicer as LI than Josie.

Josephine is an absolute bore for me, total snooze fest. I'd get rid of her in a moment and replace her with a bi Cass. Sera is the best wouldn't trade her for anyone.

The lack of content is not as much of a problem as the inherent blandness of her character. Josie could use a lot more fleshing out, but she's an interesting character concept - there are some great and subtle scenes with the idea (like the Wicked Grace scene, with romance and without). Can't really see anything interesting one could do with Scout Harding.

I did feel this persistent, "something's missing," thing with Josephine. It's not so much that I'd want to trade away the character as a romance option as much as I just wish she stood out a little more on her own.

Part of it might have been the kid sister dynamic she had with Leliana. All through her romance it felt like for every portion of Josephine time, there also was a tiny teaspoon of Leliana time to go with it. Not that I have a problem with Leliana content, I just would have preferred that time and those lines of dialogue went to developing the chemistry between the Inquisitor and Josephine.

I really can't shake the feeling that the whole concept of this thread is rather mean (yes, I realize that sounds juvenile). All of the romances have their fans, but here is a thread full of players who are happy to take whichever character away from their fans simply because they don't like them for whatever reason.

Can't really see anything interesting one could do with Scout Harding.

I'm sure some said that about Cullen, as well, given that he started out as a relatively unknown NPC. At least you can have extended conversations with Harding and learn about her a bit.

Even if most people in this thread would say "oh I wish Josephine romance was cut because she was so boring" it would still be in your game. It's not going anywhere ever just because some people say they didn't like it. I don't see anything 'mean' about it. This thread is about each person individually saying what romances they personally didn't like in their game and what they would have liked to have instead of them. It's just personal opinions.

Cullen was part of some potentially interesting events between becoming de facto Knight Commander of Kirkwall during the midst of a genocide and the start of DA:I. I think he was pretty dull in execution, though.

What we learn about Scout Harding is that she has an incredibly mundane peasant life. I know that some people genuinely like that vs. the more accomplished and unique NPCs we have; I'm just against it fundamentally and find it deeply uninteresting as a concept.

To the OP (feel compelled to actually answer), I would cut the IB and open up Solas to everyone. I get that his racial supremacy is part of his character, but at the very least I would like to have his content opened up M/M-wise versus what we have with the IB (re: portrayals of bisexual men).

No character is objectively interesting or uninteresting. Finding Scout Harding more interesting and appealing than Cullen (especially given his minimal role in the first game) and Josephine isn't any less valid than the reverse.

Yeah I kinda agree. I didn't really like any of the romances, but I didn't feel right suggesting any one of the should have been removed entirely so I could get the Scout Harding one I wanted.

You would have a point if I somehow said that Scout Harding was objectively uninteresting (or Cullen objectively interesting), but what I said was:

The lack of content is not as much of a problem as the inherent blandness of her character ... Can't really see anything interesting one could do with Scout Harding.

I suppose you're objecting to my use of "inherent"? In any case, I thought it was obvious that since we are talking about characters subjectivity is implied?

Well, also because you replied to the idea that "some people would have said the same thing about Cullen"  by explaining why he actually was interesting, it sounded like you sort of implied that he's objectively more interesting than her regardless of what those people might have thought.

That's a fair criticism. I didn't mean to give that impression. I just meant to say that I think Cullen's life has encompassed a series of events that I think are potentially interesting in a way that, in DA:I, Scout Harding did not. Yet at the same time, I think she could be an interesting companion in DA:4 precisely because she was in the Inquisition in DA:I and - depending on the time-gap and how DA:4 will handle the Solas plot - she can be a bridge character to the game and provide a lot of colour on the attempts to oppose Solas.
