Sera deal is that she haves no sense of compromise, to her, it's aways revenge killing or punishment. She doesn't understand redemption, or putting differences aside for the greater good. Such as recruiting Alexius to help out the Inquisition.
If you could switch 2 romance options, who would you cut, and who would replace them?

Yes, I guess, that is the problem with Sera and my inquisitor. She is well written, but she can be very annoying ![]()

I think I'd definitely cut Solas's romance as I said, and include a bit more lore in his friendship path. For example the subject of vallaslin could come up by other means.
I'd have Varric only as a temporary companion for the introduction, and then have him decide to help the Inquisition by using his family contacts to become trade advisor. He could still perform all the story functions that he does, and provide some extra solutions for war table missions.
I'd then have Harding become a companion after her introduction in the hinterlands. She could still nominally be in charge of the scouts, but with a less hands-on role. I'd have her as a bisexual LI. I'd also expand Cullen's romance to be bisexual and non-race-gated.
That would have the happy side-effect of meaning that there'd be four male and four female companions (plus Cole) with one gay, one straight and one bi romance per gender. There'd also be two advisors of each gender, with one of each being a bi romance option.

I'd sack Blackwall for sure. And probably Cullen. No idea who I would replace them with though. There really isn't any others characters I would like to romance that would make sense for the plot.
Ah well, as long as I've got my Solas romance I don't really mind what happens to the others. I don't think the Solas romance creates any more problems than Morragan - she obviously has a big role to play in the next game, but the problem is that it's only relavent to wardens who romanced her. The Solas plot is relavent to every Inquisitor.
Sacking Cullen is like half of the playerbase.
You can live in the BSN world where female elves and Solas are suddenly more than important the main context of the game. But they're not. 80% of the players are still human.

So I was thinking further about how I'd rearrange the game based on the train of thought that Xil inspired yesterday. My plan involves more than just swapping out romances.

I really like this idea. I've never heard anyone suggest Varric be temporary but that would work well!

Yeah I'm quite pleased with it. Of course it would've required more development work than what we got, but it would've been cool.I really like this idea. I've never heard anyone suggest Varric be temporary but that would work well!

The fact that Cullen has fans doesn't mean I have to like him. The thread asked for my personal opinion on who I would like/dislike as a LI, so I gave my opinion that I don't like Cullen.
Also - Where the hell have you ever gotten the idea I would think female elves/Solas are more important than anyone else's choice? It's the option that I personally think is the best play through, but I've certainly never suggested that anyone else's opinion is invalid/less important than mine. Every option presented in the game is equally valid if that's what a person likes.

Yes, but people love to hate him because of the whole,"Imma tear down the Veil and rek the world!" thing. Pfft...people and their sensitivities.Huh, really? From what I've seen, Solas is one of the most popular option.

I've played through that DAO quest numerous times. I don't recall there being anything in relation to her orientation whatsoever. She is too focused on "ZOMG MAGIC IS SO AWESOME" to do anything else, really. She is starstruck by a mage warden of either gender.
male warden can flirt with her and she will say what she is like

I like the reformed, mature Cullen of DAI; not a fan of his earlier personality. But I have little care as to a romance story in any case.

He's definitely better than in earlier games, but I'm still holding a grudge from the one time he wanted to murder everyone my character had ever known - I can't forget about that quite so easily!
That's not really why I picked him to be replaced though, it's just the general style of the romance doesn't appeal to me. The whole knight in shining armour, fluffiness, marriage and a dog, etc stuff just sounds like my worst nightmare!

But by that logic, most of them are playing male humans. My guess is that Cassandra is the most popular romance in the game by far. I doubt 50% of PCs romanced Cullen.
(In fact, I'm not sure that 50% of PCs would have completed any romance.)

That being said, if I had to leave one off, it would be Solas. His romance is actually one of my favorites, even if it has less content than some others. But I think his character is just as interesting on a friendship path, and may even make more sense that way (for reasons others have stated).
Then, if I had to replace that content... I'd go ahead and open up Cullen for all races, or maybe replace the Solas "elf/elf" with a Varric "dwarf/dwarf". At first glance that could work, although I'm sure there's some reason it wouldn't, because it didn't happen!

Ha, that's perfect for me though! Goes to show how different people are when it comes to these things. Now, if Bioware could make a female romance option in that style, I'd finally be completely satisfied with a Bioware romance. But it doesn't seem like that will ever happen. They don't write female romances like their male ones, unfortunately.

Eh..
I'd totally swap Sera for Varric. That's about it. Sera annoys me so much.
and I do find it ridiculous that she and Dagna somewhat become a thing (still not sure why, never understood it, I suppose it's some party banter but I never take Sera with me so
)
I do understand why people who didn't romance Solas think they are in a different situation. But then again hey.. in DAO too, romancing Alistair with a Cousland was again the best choice you could pick (you get to the throne, Alistair is not unhappy about having to marry Anora or having to reign alone etc).
There are some romances who simply have more impact on the story and there's nothing we can do about it (for instance romancing Anders.. or Morrigan I suppose).
I would not remove anyone else, even Josie.
I could say that at the beginning I wanted Cole to be romanceable, but I knew it wasn't possible ![]()
Harding is cute but meh, nothing special, it's a character that became important just because of fan service and that annoys me a bit. But clearly she's Bioware's try at implementing a cute female dwarf and she probably will be romanceable if she is a companion in the next game.. so I'll go along with it

No... Pranks aren't cool unless the prankster knows in advance the person being pranked wouldn't care. If they don't know, or know they wouldn't like it, it's mean.
I don't see how you're getting from clueless to mean there. Nobody's ever been saying that Sera's sensitive, or a good judge of character, or anything of that sort.

Turn Sera to straight so she could romance Tidus and dump Bull for Harding as a companion/romance. I would dump Vivienne for Dagna as a magic researcher/possible romance..
Sera is one of the best characters.. She brings chuckles to the game.

I would... I dunno, cut Iron Bull and Cassandra and replace them with Leliana and... Leliana?
Seriously though, I am so irritated by how standoffish and aloof Leliana is in DA:I. I can barely ever get a word in before she ends the conversation! And yet, she is still Leliana deep down, and imo the best looking NPC in DA:I. I want an inquisitor-Leliana romance so badly.

Not good enough. My romance playthroughs are like
Warden #1 - Morrigan (Love)
Warden #2 - Queen Anora
Warden #3 - Morrigan (shallow)
Warden #4 - Leliana
Warden #5 - Leliana... but died slaying the archdemon
Also I'm shocked that people don't like Blackwall. As a fellow man, I think he's awesome.
