If you could switch 2 romance options, who would you cut, and who would replace them?

The game has five male and three female LIs, and people are suggesting dropping Sera or Josie for a male character. OK...

Most people are answering with the characters they personally wanted to have a connection with, rather than considering the overall roster and how it would affect the male/female ratio.  I know I did when I started the thread.

For me it's more about character and personality, and less about gender I guess.

Josie is boring. Sera is, "You don't fit into Inquisition" button exist for a reason. I surprised so many people cut Solas romance i think is best romance in Inquisition if not best in all DA games. For me it's second Morrigan is best next Solas.

Uhuh, I think Sera is one of the best romances in all of DA.

Opinions, opinions.

I agree, but that wasn't even my point. I was talking about swapping female LIs for male when the romanceable men already outnumber the women five to three. Seems a bit harsh.

Nobody is saying Bioware actually should make these changes. We're just discussing the changes we would make to appeal more to us personally.

I'd assume the people posting for male characters are straight women or gay men, so its more likely they would be interested in romancing a male character. Or maybe Bioware just happened to write a more interesting male cast for the game with more potentially interesting male characters.

Well, it is kind of hard to find a woman to really sub in when it comes to the cast. Viv and Cassandra essentially believe in the same thing, just with different motivations. Viv would just be Cas with race-gating and an even narrower field of eligible romance partners.

Bi Sera makes too much sense really, a good contrast to Cas. Outside of that, there really isn't a good female alternative.

Honestly, there should have been a hetero/bi female companion to cover the personality/alignment/world view of Cassandra. Sera fits that obviously.

In DAO, Morrigan only worked for certain characters, while Leli was much more open. Cas kind of works for the opposite side of the good/law spectrum from Morrigan. The lack of a flexible alternative like Leliana is kind of annoying.

Hmm. I'd cut out Sera and in exchange make Dorian romancable for female Inquisitors.

Personally I would have liked:

-Cassandra as a bisexual romance
-Replace Josephine with Harding
-Remove Sera and have Varric as a love interest.

(Nothing against Josephine as a character, but I think Lace would be more interesting as a LI)

I confess, I'm utterly baffled by all the Harding fandom. Did she even have a discernible character?

To me, she had more character than some others. My first Inq only flirted with Harding as his romantic interest, and it seemed to end with them making plans for their first actual date. I guess I prefer the elegance of the chase more than other forms of romance.

I was only ever able to flirt with Harding in Crestwood and one other place. I had flirted with nobody else, so this just frustrated me to no end. Eventually I gave up, and flirted with Cassandra at the last minute in the game.

She's competent, friendly, shows concern for your wellbeing and brings you a present that she found on a corpse. What's not to love? ;)

Seriously I think that there's enough there to make her intriguing and for people to want to get to know her better.

Since you posted this right after my post, I'll explain my personal reasoning :)
(It's probably important to note that I'm not a die-hard Scout Harding fan, but I did enjoy her character)

Firstly, bioware has never had a dwarf romance in any form before. Besides Varric, Harding is really the only other dwarf we've had the opportunity to flirt with and she is the first one that has ever reciprocated any of that flirting legitimately (Varric will flirt back in DAII, but only jokingly). It's kind of like dangling food in front of a starving person, "here, you can look at this, but you can't have!"

As for any "discernible character", I would argue that she did. The Inquisitor does have the opportunity to ask her questions and learn a little bit about her. After all, she hangs around Skyhold for you to talk to, and then there is more opportunity to speak of new things with her in Jaws of Hakkon. Her characterization definitely isn't as strong as the companions or advisors, but the writers still defined her enough to make people, myself included, intrigued and interested by her.

No my Blackwall!

He is the first romance with beard, apart of Cassandra.

Dagna feels like the dwarven version of Merrill. Harding isn't super developed, but at least she's a change from the previous LIs. She seems more like the best in her class that then moved to the big leagues and realized the world's a lot larger than she thought. Yet she manages to keep a cool head and a sense of humor. I would like to learn more about her in DA4, hopefully, and think she could be a good bisexual angst-free romance.

And what do we even know about Abelas other than his devotion and sadness?

Not much, really. Though a Ancient Elf romance in the next game would be awesome!

I'm 100% with you there, don't get me wrong. But this game doesn't really have any memorable secondary npcs, and the most developed characters already are LIs.

What other options are there? Uhh... Samson? Balding drug addict. No thanks. Minaeve has a little story there, but it didn't pick up my interest. Vivienne? *spits on the ground*.

Faces and voices go a long way, and character often becomes a matter for fantasizing or fanfiction. Abelas and Harding are extreme examples.

On the subject of Sera being a bully. Doesn't she break the bard's guitar when she was about to sing her song in Trespasser

Not a lot of options indeed. I wouldn't mind Barris, but there's the issue that he's not very developed. And he'd probably just be a rehash of Cullen without two previous games' worth of history.

While I plead guilty as charged to finding her cute and loving Ali Hillis's voice, Harding has way more content than Abelas, especially after Jaws of Hakkon. I have no interest in speculative fan fiction, though. I'd like to see what BioWare do with her.

I don't see how you're getting from clueless to mean there. Nobody's ever been saying that Sera's sensitive, or a good judge of character, or anything of that sort.

I wasn't really talking about Sera in particular, I was just talking about pranks in general.

I'd like a Bisexual Female KISA.....

Me too. Well, I don't care what her orientation would be - lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, demisexual, romantic-asexual... as long as she'd be available to females. Alistair and Cullen are the stuff of legend... but there aren't any females like them

Also I'm shocked that people don't like Blackwall.  As a fellow man, I think he's awesome.

Really? Aside from more subjective things like his personality or appearance, he's done some... pretty bad things. That's more than enough reason to be off-put by him, especially for a romance.
