Number are to give a past idea of previous companion numbers Bioware has done.

For the total I am counting all companions that are not temporary or dlc only companions (Aria in Omega dlc). For example for ME 2 I am counting Morinth and Samara even though you can only get one in a playthrough. Also I am not counting adviser characters like Cullen in DA:I to the total. I am counting dlc characters you can get separate for the main game, like Kasumi.

Kotor 1:            9 total (4 humans, 3 aliens, 2 robots)

Jade Empire:    9 total (7 humans, 2 human/demon)

ME 1:                6 total (2 humans, 4 aliens)

DA O:                9 total 4 human, 4 non-human, 1 dog)

ME 2:                13 total (5 humans, 7 aliens, 1 robot)

DA 2:                 9 total (6 human, 3 non-human)

ME 3:                8 total (3 humans, 4 aliens, 1 robot)

DA I:                  9 total (4 human, 4 non-human, 1 human/spirit)

Average: 9 total (3.88 human, 4.11 non-human/alien/other)

From what I have heard so far they said Andromeda is supposed to be a one off and not a new trilogy. So I think 6 like in ME1 would be good for that to build more companion depth with less people, if that makes sense.

To me, 7 seems like a pretty solid number.

I think for me 7-9, any of those numbers I'm happy with for squad members.

I'd go with six (one of each class type) and possibly one secret character.

9 personally seems around the right number in providing variety. Thought me3 had too few, ME2 a few too many.

Less is more.   ME2 and DAI get to the point where I feel like there are so many combinations it's a little overwhelming.  ME3 felt like a good number to chose from so I'd go with that.  So 7 or 8.

When you get unique dialogue between certain combos it's a headache to try and hear a lot of it if there are loads of companions in the mix.

I'd rather Bio stuck to a smaller cast of companions, but flesh each of them out a lot more, rather than a mass of a dozen companions, with half of them being two-dimensional bores.

Hmmmmm, 6-9 seems to be good. I'd lean towards to less personally, but more can add a nice variety of personality.  However, more also means you are more likely to have a team member you dislike and never use.

The thing with DA:I also is that it's sort of a specialization sampler, since each companion covers one of the available specs in the game, with the only double-up ever being the Inquisitor.

1 for each class to cover your basics

and then maybe 2-3 out there options

Hell they might have new classes

Me2's problem is There is so many squadmates but not enough missions to go around.

Yeah, but to appreciate that I'd have to be somewhat competent with the combat system and actually understand what everyone can do...and that's just ridiculous.  :P  ;)

It's a good point and I get why there are so many, but sheesh I still hate choosing only 3 for a big quest.  I pick them solely on who my buddies are, I've been known to take 3 rogues and a warrior for an entire DLC.  Bloody useless of course, but I wanted the banter.

Yeah, DA:I does have more than I can find myself using most of the time. Cole, Vivienne and to a lesser extent Iron Bull get benched a lot more. Cole never goes anywhere at all, since I only really care to double up on rogues with Varric and Sera for any particular quest, and Vivienne only goes to Redcliffe because she has the best commentary for Fiona when you discover the Tevinter indenturing.

I had a similar problem with ME2. Thane and Samara never went anywhere. At least Mordin had the excuse of working in the lab, so it was easy to reconcile leaving him behind most of the time.

In ME3, it was easier to shuffle through the roster so everyone got a couple of missions in.

8 I think. But really in that case max 2 humans. I always find it pretty boring to play with other humans.

Pretty much this. One for each class for a total of six, and another one with unique powers that joins your team after the plot twist.

At least 1 per specialization works best for me I think. But as for numbers I'd say anywhere from 6-9 members in the team.

Between 6 and 9 total companions would fine, but on the actual missions I hope they stick with just two as in the previous ME games.

When was it said that Andromeda was going to be a one-off?  I'm gonna need some context here.

I think 9 is optimal, but the freedom that came with ME2's dirty dozen was good too.  Although, more companions means less complex individuals, which is why I say 9 is probably best.

I really don't care as long as the character are interesting, well thought out have character development and are Asari.

On a more serious note i would like to see some diversity a human/alien mix where we can have some tanky character, tech specialist and biotics. I really liked ME3 squad selection. You had James and Ash who were simple soldiers with nades and carnage/noob tube then you had Liara and Javik biotics, EDI and Tali tech specialist and Garrus who was a mix. So around 6 would be fine for me.
