Hawke must've left it in Kirkwall. I beat the game, and I didn't see it once. In fact, I didn't get much chance to sound angry, aggressive, or mean. Weird.
Btw, I thought about putting this in the characters section.

No... It's in one cutscene during Trepasser.... Ohhh is this about DA2?
Actually, the Inquisitor does get one option to use the Murder Knife in Trespasser when dealing with that rogue templar.
EDIT: Ninja'd! Sort of.

Yes - that's what i was talking about. ![]()
But it's nowhere in the main game, right? I have no DAI DLC.
To be fair, the Inquisitor does get to order a few deaths, and even carry out the execution in one or two cases.

Yeah, but it sucks having no murder knife - doesn't it?
Nothing will ever beat the pure comedy of Genitivi's murder knife death.

Yeah... Maybe the Murder knife will come back in full force in DA4? Hopefully it will... I miss it.

Well, you do get to murder-knife a map at the end. Does that count?

If you want to sound angry, aggressive or mean you have to play angry, aggressive or mean. Man up.

I thought that was a little over the top, and thus, not very funny. Now, Lloyd's on the other hand... That fat coward thought he could out-speed a Grey Warden's throwing arm.
Ah, there's nothing quite like planting a knife in the back of someone's skull.....*memories* Good times folks, good times. ![]()

The first time that happened with Genetivi I was so shocked I admit. It is brutal, but most of the time it's really funny. I didn't know you could kill Lloyd. Well then. We all know what I'm doing next playthrough. ![]()
The murder knife is always there. Watching. Waiting....
Biding it's time...

Well, I actually meant his reaction was over the top. It felt to me like BioWare was trying to be funny, rather than being funny.
It's still around. If you want to become an assassin you have to craft "The Murder Knife". It's a plot item now.
I expect it will be fully sentient by the time DA4 rolls out.The murder knife is always there. Watching. Waiting....
You can see it in WEWH with Florianne.
It evolved and become companion.
