On some planets that I scan I can't escape out of them. I'm just stuck in planet scan and have to shut down the game to exit. Any suggestions?
can't get out of planet scanning?

Ok I just had this error. Weird thing.
I bought the game in retail pack version but I use STEAM to open it because I like the overlay.
On some planets if you choose to scan, the ESCAPE button is not responding so there is no way to go out of scanning mode. I know the ESCAPE button works because if I open the STEAM overlay and press ESCAPE, it works.

I also have the problem, staying stuck at the planet scanning and where the escape button doesn't work. I can't reproduce it intentionally, it seems to occur at random.

Same problem here also.No escape on some planets.Save often. This happened when I went back to a planet that I had already scanned successfully.Maybe BioWare can look into this problem.

This has happened for the third time for me now, and since I am pretty lazy about saving, it usually occurs after scanning 10 planets. *sigh*

I just encountered this for the first time. It is really frustrating since I just scanned a whole bunch of planets. BioWare needs to fix this (the scanning is already tedious enough as it is).

I have also encountered this problem at least 3 times. Till its fixed, best solution is to save after each planet scan, as tedious as that is, but still better then redoing numerous planet scans.

i have this problem, and to me, it seems to only happen when a planet's resources are 'poor' or 'depleted' - maybe a glitch when the planet changes its status?
edit: this has started happening to me in the system where the convict mission occurs. where has these problems happened for others?

I've gotten it where I can escape out but can't move the Normandy around- by going back to scan the planet and escaping again seems to fix it

Ok here is a simple way to avoid this, whenever you go into scanner mode, at least shoot out a probe. Whenever the status of the scan changes (ie from RICH to MODERATE, etc), at least shoot out a probe. If you do all that, you can ESCAPE from scanner mode. Unfortunately, once you hit the bug where the ESCAPE button doesn't work, no amount of probes launched will help you (but I never tested until it changed the scan status).

I am having the same problem. I tried Koross' solution and it isn't working either. This has been extremely tedious thus far and it is only getting worse. Hopefully it is something that bioware can get around to soon.

I've been having the exact same problem and haven't been able to find a workable solution yet. Not sure what could be causing it...

i have it too. i think it happens when you scan an already scanned area of the planet. so far best solution is to save(F5) before each scan

I just had the same, after using 30 probes on a rich planet... :/

Just researched the probes and scanning speed and went on a spree of like 6+ Systems.
Kinda just want to quit and go back to bed now. I'm not patient with repeating things. I won't continue the story without upgrades and I'm not mining while this glitch exists. =/

I've also just had this issue, no amount of probes helped me :-(

same here. seems random, very annoying.
Actually with a couple more occurrences I think the theory that it happens when the planet changes status may be correct.
