Yet another bump, maybe in another 2 weeks time somebody will take a look at it

Just had the problem for the first time about 20 hours in. I got the scanner upgrade about five hours ago. System is Core2 E8400, Vista Ultimate SP2 64bit, 4gb Ram, Nvidia 285 GTX. No changed key bindings.

Just started playing around with the scanner and had the same problem here. 3rd planet I tried, I couldn't get out. Seems this wasn't in the patch.
Why isn't Bioware acknowledging this bug?
Anyway not like it matters, but the only key binding I changed is that I added my middle mouse button as a secondary input for the radar/objective pointer popup.
Specs:
C2D E8400 @ stock
4GB DDR2 1066
GeForce GTX 285
Creative X-Fi Titanium
Vista Home Premium x64

I too have encountered this problem. A dozen times now at least.
Forgive me for being snarky here but I think I know how to reproduce this:
A) scan a ton of planets in a system
don't save your game after spending 15 minutes getting minerals
C)get stuck in planet scan and close out the game in frustruation.
I spent an incredible amount of time on this game untill I started hitting this bug. Its so frustrating that I decided to just stop playing till it got fixed.
Is there any hope of this happening sometime in the near future?

Oddly enough, this hasn't happened since I originally complained about it. It happened in the first couple hours of the game, on the third planet I scanned; but I'm just under 30 hours in now, and it hasn't happened again.

Same thing here, I have to close the game often while exploring 'cause "esc" key stop responding. I just find out this a Collector action to stop me to finish the game...It is not a cheater trick to get the resources without scanning? I mean, scanning planets definitely suc...s, even without bug!

every other planet scan it is happening to me 2 and no amount of probes launched after would allow escape to work not even if all probes depleted i'm getting bored now, please fix this huge bug ! Bioware

This has been happening to me too, usually within the first two hours of play, but this time it locked up on me literally two minutes after I loaded up my save file.

Haven't played the game in over a 1,5months since I started getting this error, figured I try it again today, got it the first time after 6 minutes, the second time after 10.

FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET AROUND THIS!!!
Sadly, it's nothing special or gimmicky, but I've tried this method SEVERAL times over and over again. The best way to prevent this bug from occurring?
When you send a probe and your mineral meters go up, LET THE METERS FINISH FILLING UP. Do not scan or send another probe until the meter has completed filling itself up. Moving the scanner to another location doesn't harm it, but scanning/probing while the meter is still moving 9 times out of 10 made me get the scanning bug. I've been testing this theory for the past three hours- every time I let the meters finish up, I am able to exit out of scanning with no problem. If I don't allow it to fill up, I get stuck.
I'm not 100% sure this solves the problem (like I said, it was about 9 times of 10 successful), so be sure to save frequently. Once you start getting more confident, you will be able to save less and less until you're at the point where you save after depleting five planets after another.
Hope this helps; would like feedback from others if they attempt this.

Lovely how, in the three months since this thread started, there hasn't been a single post from Bioware..
As good as this game is, I'm going to shelf it until Bioware fixes this.

I had this bug too, then it was gone after the last patch (or I was just lucky) and returned with new DLC.
Fauxfaia's tip reduces the chance of seeing this bug, but it doesn't solve the problem (believe me, I used a few hundred pods while this bug kept making me go mad).
The best way to finish the game with this bug is to reduce scanning to anomaly planets. You can the whole planet, ignoring the anomaly until you deplete it and then you scan the anomaly and land. Important part: don't scan the anomaly until you are finished as you get just once the question if you want to land.
You will get enough resources to finish the game with all upgrades.
Bioware, please do something about this bug, its terrible!!!

I too had this bug quite frequently after several hours of game play and had ot task manager to get out of being stuck.
I noticed it happen most on small planets that are on the edge of asteroid fields.
Running Intel i7 920, 6GB win7 x64 ultimate, Radeon 4890 - no key changes etc
However since upgrading to 10.4 drivers, so far haven't had it even after 5 plus hours of playing and I've also taken to only scanning for minerals I need and not launching probes for everything
Some word from Bioware would be good even if its only a we're looking into this. Other than this bugbear, it's a great game
