bump.
I hope it doesn't get ignored by Bioware.

There's no way to escape this besides exiting the game. The best way to avoid this problem is to keep the mouse button down while it mines the minerals. No more click and move while it mines, you have to keep the mouse button down until it finishes mining.

I've just started having this problem too. It seems to be fairly random. I can play for a long time without it happening and then all of a sudden it will get stuck a couple of times in a row.

Bioware, the v1.02 patch didn't fix it. It made the problem even worse now

Has anyone from Bioware responded to this problem? I'm to the point that I don't even want to play the game anymore! You need EEZO to do research, and the planets are where you get it, but everytime I attempt it I get this glitch, and have to Control+Alt+Delete to get to my task manager to shut down the game.
If anyone has heard anything that fixes this please let me know..............I tried the 1.02 patch, and if anything it's worse now. I used to be able to at least get 5-10 probes out, and now its one or two.
PLEASE HELP US ALL OUT!

This is quite possibly the most annoying bug ever, it's essentially a total crash of the game because you have to ctrl+alt+delete to get out of it

Not sure if this helps, but it appears to occur only after upgrading probe capacity (at least in my case) and I can also confirm that once the bug starts appearing it gets progressively worse.

This popped up for me well into my third playthrough. No fix or response from Bioware? Bummer

this really is disgusting that after 7 months this hasnt been patched...as a heads up to people. i can almost guarentee that the planet scanning bug seems to happen only after you first land on a planet due to a transmission that you scanned. immidiately after i did my first planet side mission i got stuck on next planet.

Still nothing from Bioware on this huh? This is pretty ridiculous at this point to have to try and play through this bug.

Same problem here. I have played the game for a long time and scanned several planets without a problem, and now stuck for the first time. I did the probe upgrade three or four planets ago, otherwise nothing has changed in game or on my PC. A couple of times I haven't been able to start the game (logon failure) but I can't see that that would be related to this bug.

Just encountered this problem as well. Been playing the game since release, never had a problem and all of a sudden my enter and escape buttons don't work anymore. I can't leave the scanmode, nor can I use the enter or escape key in the starting menu to select 'resume' , extra's etc.
Guess there is no fixing this as of yet?

Well, I've been having this issue and I assumed it was a hardware issue, but now I'm seriously doubting it. I actually had it occur to me by experimenting on a planet where all I did was orbit. no probes launched or scans made, simply orbitted then hit esc and nothing..... sure would be nice if bio would post SOMETHING.

This thread is 10 months old. Bioware doesn't care, they already have our money. Why bother patching?
I don't know that hardware is not a factor. I played through 3 times with my 8800 getting every upgrade, so I did a bloody lot of scanning - and never hit this problem. I recently upgraded to a 460, and it hit me during my first scan.

This happened to me for the first time after 35+ hours into my first playthrough. Here's what I think caused the problem:
I had the right mouse button pressed so the scanner was running, then I pressed Escape. The scanning stopped and the planet kept spinning. From them on, I couldn't leave the planet view with the Escape key.
So, make sure no mouse buttons are pressed when you press Escape.

It stinks when you're unable to get out of planetary scanning, as the only way out of it is to kill the game.
Wish the problem wasn't falling on deaf ears.

God this is annoying, I never had this bug before but since I installed The arrival it happens all the time. Will Bioware finally make a patch for this?
