What is the main routine we want in ME:A?

Every Mass Effect game had some sort or routine or formula to how most missions were done. In broad strokes they go something like this:

ME1:

Enter planet, walk around, talk, do side-quest, Mako stretch, combat, aftermath, return to Normandy.

ME2:

Enter mission area, exploration/combat, combat, interlude, railroaded story-segment/combat showdown, talk, mission complete.

ME3:

Talk in shuttle, immediate combat or buildup, combat, cutscene, combat, combat/action segment, cutscene, walk out from War Room. Go. Through. Door. Scanner...

What routine, if you will. do we want in ME:A. We know Mako will be part of it and exploration is a thing. Personally I hope the main quest is not completely segregated from exploration like in DA:I and I also hope I won't spend 60 hours out of 80 driving the mako around mining things.

I'm expecting something where you drive Mako for transport with a good deal of freedom to pick between missions, then arrive at mission. During a mission/quest you typically start either by driving somewhere with the Mako or explore a place on foot, shoot guys, talk to some NPC in out-of-cinema dialogue and then get more action and complete objective for a reward.

I'm hoping it will have that split like ME1 though where some missions are clearly more of a quantity thing but give you more to explore, while the rest is more focused with more obviously designed locations and substantial exposition and context for the quest with character arcs and subplots. DA:I felt very superficial in anything but its critical main path story I felt, even in the good ones like Crestwood's main quest.

I liked ME2's formula.. but they could do with making better side missions.. and forget the damn scanning.

edit: Actually, more open would be nice too.

It was originally made for 360, so they had to single out a first tier squad for one disc. That isn't necessary now.

I love the Mass Effect 3 routine with the mission briefing done in the Kodiak and then a drop in a Hot Zone. The level design for Mass Effect 2 and 3 were perfect for the combat system. Problem is we already know its about exploring, or major hints, so not sure what i want now. I want the exploration to be abit like DA:I, but smaller scale and tigther focus on quests and lore tidbits. Also with the Mako we will be able to get around abit quicker. A good combination of all 3?

What tighter focus is that?

When they built up a whole war, and then never actually had one? :P

No no, i meant that i want the exploration of Mass Effect Andromeda to have those things. DA:I was sorely lacking in that department.

EDIT - There, it has been corrected for your pleasure.

Definitely don't need another go-around with ME2's approach. Mission start (just in case you didn't realize it), run through linear hallways and shoot all the mooks that conveniently pop up right in front of your face, Mission Complete screen. Talk about killing the immersion and atmosphere. It's bad enough I'm getting herded from point A to B without any freedom of approach, now they break the 4th wall and give me a mission complete screen and summary. Stupid.

I wouldn't mind a mix of both ME2's and ME1's.

I loved the buildup for quests in ME2, but I feel the hammerhead was underutilized. I wanted the Mako back.

Or Knights of the Old Republic Swoop Racing would be nice to.

I know we will be using the Mako in ME:A but I'm seriously hoping it doesn't do the same intro when entering a planet, a shot of the Normandy swooping down into the planet and letting the Mako fly out of the ship and land. I think there should be some kind of drop ship where the Mako is unloaded from. Aside from that I would do a little from each.

talk in Mako - exploration - cutscene - combat - cutscene/combat showdown - aftermath - return to ship

A little detail I'd love is if we get to manually enter and exit our spaceship this time. I loved that in ME1 (I'm a PC user so it doesn't repeat the "Decontamination in progress" line)

Generally, I just loved how ME1 sacrificed some game-flow to be a completely seamless and simulating experience. It's nice ME2 and ME3 cut to the chase and drop you straight into the action and replaces the wait-times and walk times with loading screens for cuts and transitions (Is it honestly that much better?) but I'd love to see ME:A try to immerse you with making the experience seamless again.

Maybe a mixture of all three, I loved that in ME3 you had the mission debriefs before actually starting the mission and in ME2 the variety of planets we landed on, ME1 for just exploring in general I think.

I'd like to see a healthy mix to be honest. I want most planets to each have a sort of base camp to act as a hub where you can have mission briefings localized to the potential objectives on each planet. Then each planet should have an overworld spreading out from it that you explore via the mako with numerous objective zones you can exit the mako to explore, some being more wide open and non-linear like the areas in DA:I and some being more linear like the missions in ME2/3. Planet objectives could range from resource scouting, colonization locale scouting, main story missions, first contact meetings, investigating potential enemy activity, or random events like localized natural disasters or ambushes from local flora/fauna or enemy forces that unexpectedly interrupt our mako exploration.

Speech to pump up crew, shuttle to mission, joke with crew until action, Combat, mission end at bar with squadies.

Sleep with one of crew, wake up with hangover, Repeat.

Somewhere the game has to end, I guess they could just slap the ending of ME3 in and I'd be alright since the rest of the game would be satisfying.

No stupid MMO quest zones like DAI!!!!

Format wise ME3 is practically perfect. If they could adapt it's cinematography and companion interaction to the new storyline and engine I think MEA might really surprise me and be good. (Not holding my breath, but...)
