I have confused myself about the ability upgrades that are now available.  

 

I have added all the DLCs, and now when a character gains a level, those abilities with upgrades have two upgrades showing, and they are toggled.  While there are two choices, you can only upgrade an ability once.

 

When you select an upgrade, do you get both choices?  Or do you have to select one, and forever lose the other?

 

If you get both, are they both active at the same time, or do you need to use the "Toggle" to select one before going out into exploration?

 

It would be helpful if Bioware would at least make a html player guide, or an epub one they could update easily.

You get both upgrades when you select one. They are not both active at the same time, but you can toggle back and forth to your heart's content.

Whilst you can only use one at a time they're both available at anytime you just have to chose which one you want active

Not quite anytime. You can't change them mid-combat, unless I'm mistaken?

 

They are a great addition! For only 1 skill point you get two different ability buffs to choose from.

I know but you can't change anything in the middle of a fight until it's done but I meant anytime outside of that you can.

Thank you all for your helpful comments.  I had suspected that getting two, but having to toggle between, was fact, but it is nice to have confirmation.

 

Still wish there was a player's guide to clarify these things.

The toggleable upgrades were added with a DLC, weren't they? I don't know how well the DLC documentation communicated how they work.

Yeah they were added  with Trespasser and the trials I believe
