I don't know because I never romanced Bull. But I do know it has taken a lot of 'getting things right' for me to get them through their romance so it may be harder if you to use up some of your game by romancing Bull yourself. I think it helps to lock yourself into another romance as soon as you can so you have more time for them to start romancing. Also, take the two of them everywhere you go, as often as possible so that you give the game a chance to give you the proper dialogues to move things along.

Even harder for me was getting the Blackwall/Jose romance to work to the end but both romance combinations require you to take the characters with you so you can hear the dialogue, as far as I can tell.

Oh yes, quite a long time and long term romance as a matter of fact.

If the Inquisitor romances Dorian and then breaks up with him there may not be enough time in the main game to get Dorian together with Iron Bull. But, it the party continues to consist of Bull and Dorian though the dlc (the banter especially triggers in JOH and somewhat in Descent by the time Trespasser happens Dorian and Bull should be in a relationship.

Yeppers. If you don't romance either one and keep them together in the party long enough, they end up together. Their romance even continues in the Trespasser epilogue slides. IMHO, it's super cute. Adoribull, even :) .

I've heard that romancing Bull at all might lock this option out, even if you break up with him later, but I don't know if anyone has tested in thoroughly. Part of the issue is that it can just take a really long time for the relevant banter to show up. My last Inquisitor spent literal hours picking herbs, roaming the Hissing Wastes or just standing majestically on rocks while muttering 'will you two please just !@#$ already?!'

After about two hours trying to trigger their romance dialogue I cheated, I just left our party of three in camp, muted my computer and went to bed. In the morning I could have the 'sooooo you and Iron Bull?' conversation with Dorian at Skyhold.

They didn't have anything left to say to each other though which meant if I took them out their dialogue with the third party member always trigged.

It's possible. I actually did it with my elf bow male rouge Maliaoniss.

You misunderstand the OP. They are asking if Bull and Dorian hook up with each other, not whether the PC can still romance Dorian.

I mentioned this last year that Sten will have Iron Bull killed when he finds out. Having sex with a tevinter human male and getting drunk silly all the time is a severely punishable crime according to the Qunari. Personally I think Bull is a total disgrace.

Given that the Ben-Hassrath sent him out into the world to be a spy, I doubt they object to him acting like a Tal-Vashoth to maintain his cover. That's what he's there for. Anyway, what the Qunari think of his relationship with Dorian is ultimately irrelevant. Either Bull stays in the Qun, betrays the Inquisitor and Dorian and dies, or he leaves the Qun and who he's banging and how much he's drinking isn't their problem any more.

Hm, maybe he's a bit like Fenris. He's someone born into a culture who then has a glimpse of a different one with stark differences and ends up disenchanted because he can never be free to change his way of life.

All the promiscuity his character demonstrates can in reality be self-indulgence. He's free of the Qun and gets the chance to have experiences he could never have under their rigid regime. He can drink as much as he wants. He can choose to have sex with someone he cares about. He's free to offer his services as a mercenary to whatever patron he chooses and fight good fights. He can live according to his own rules as a spy...so long as he keeps delivering those damn reports to Par Vollen.

The elf emissary that calls him Hissrad states that the Qunari were becoming mistrustful of IB. They thought he was no longer a genuine Qunari, and for the very reasons you enumerated. Bull no doubt knows the Ben-Hassrath think that of him. Which leads to the question: if he's a legimitate Qunari, proud of his people and satisfied with his job, why would he allow himself to be seen in that light? Sten never would have.

I consider the very fact that he disclosed his identity as a Ben-Hassrath to the Inquisition to be meaningful. Another Qunari would keep this secret well hidden. But Bull throws the information very casually at the Inquisitor, almost as if being a Qunari spy meant nothing to him. If we interpret his attitude and take into consideration how he treats the Chargers as family, then the truth about him becomes crystal clear: he doesn't want to continue being a Qunari. He found his reason to live in the South.

No wonder his greatest fear is Madness. For Bull, it's impossible to be both Iron Bull, the person he allowed himself to become while enjoying relative freedom and a Qunari. Which is why, after you kill the Chargers, we have a glimpse of how he truly feels when he punches the wall - sad and broken - and scatters the ashes of his dead companions to the wind in an attempt of a last goodbye. It was also goodbye to his former life, a fantasy life, which he built around his alter ego: Iron Bull, the person he in truth always wanted to be.

PS: I dislike the character as well and agree with your opinion. He's a disgrace. But there was an opportunity to analyze him, one that I couldn't resist. So there you go.

Considering I spent hours wandering the Hissing Wastes trying to trigger Dorian/Bull banter, and there are a number of banters they have to have before their romance flag activates, even if you do break up with Bull it will probably take ages to get their romance to trigger. So...you might want to grab a snack.
