I don't get it. I give the ring back to the woman and get 5, greet the empress and gain 10, but after that, nothing.

You get a lot (or not) depending on dialogue choices. Generally, the middle options are good for it, but do whatever suits your character, since you can usually get 100 without too much trouble. You'll lose them if you stay out-of-bounds too long, so if you want, you can make a save before doing so and reload to streamline how fast you can do whatever you need to do outside.

Also, when coming back from out-of-bounds, there are bells. If the bell rings once, the Inquisitor says they should get back. If it rings twice, they'll say they're "fashionably late" now (which always reminds me of Dorian). If it rings a third time, they'll say "Now I'm just plain late". Going back to the ball after the first bell is neutral I believe, but entering after the second will give you some approval for being fashionably late, and entering after the third bell garners negative points. Jumping on couches or trying to get past a guard who's already told you an area is off-limits grants disapproval. That's all I remember off the top of my head. Hope it helps!

Talk with people , usually the middle options gives point , don't be naive or blunt .

Picking up secret and such , you have to give them to Leliana.

I think finding Caprice and throwing them in the fountain gives points too.

Etc...

Just don't jump all over the furniture like a moron , orlesians don't like that for some reasons.

By being fabulous.
1. You get the biggest boost in the cutscene conversations. For the biggest boost, try being vague. If you have the option to answer a question with a question, then do it. It's all the rage in Orlais. Especially when dancing with Flo. Also- Phillipe is a jerk. Remember that.
2. Find all the secrets (or well, some of them). Sometimes there will be red rings when you are walking about, step in them and press F (or the activate console button). If Quizzy says something about things being interesting or useful, pat yourself on the back. If Quizzy says it's boring, run around and try again later. When the orange ping appears on the screen, hunt that hidden item down. You can then give them to Leliana in the ballroom.
You can get alot of court approval by doing that. You get +2 court approval for each secret. There are 30 secrets around, which nets you +60 court approval if you find them all.
3. If you have the nobility knowledge perk, remember to talk to the Dovager in the ballroom after you do the dance scene and pick the crown option. The court approves.
4. The second bell that BansheeOwnage mentions gives you +10 points.

Also, are you playing a dwarf and have you finished this quest before?

YES.

Dance with Floriann, OP.  Do it right and you'll be the belle of the ball.  Do it wrong and you will be kicked out and the world will be destroyed.

I've completed the game as a dwarf. I haven't gotten to this quest yet on this playthrough, but I am an elven warrior this time. I don't suppose I've turned secrets in before. I figured it was a pointless sidequest.

Have the guards in front of the trophy room go and bother Cullen for more points.

Be entertaining and non-committal. If you have Nobility Knowledge, ask the dowager to dance. Turn in secrets to Leliana. Throw Caprice coins in the fountain. Find the Council of Heralds' envoy and express sympathy over that Phillipe slacker. (You can use this to blackmail Gaspard.)

I find it hard NOT to reach 100 Approval.

I don't get it. I give the ring back to the woman and get 5, greet the empress and gain 10, but after that, nothing.

The trick is to pick the right answers when dancing with Duchess Florianne.

1- Accept her offer to dance without question.

2- Choose the middle option in the dialog wheels (the smart, cheeky answers).

That should be halfway to gaining loads of approval points.

  • Also, throw any caprice coins you find in the fountain (next to where Dorian is).
  • When you have 60+ Approval, talk to the Dowager (the woman with nine husbands), but ONLY when she says Pardon me a moment when you walk past her.
  • Talk to Gaspard's uncle.
  • And when talking to a member of the Council of Heralds, choose to criticize Philipe.

Just use any YT tutorial :v. Or there is sth called Dragon Age Wikia. YT tuorials are better tho. It's hard to understand where to look for coins or hallah statues if someone describes it.
