Make some of them our superiors instead. that way when we ply them with our wicked seductive power we don't risk feeling like we're exploiting our authority over them.

Oh also. romance thread alert. all anti-romance thread wet blanket killjoys feel free to commence griping about it. I look forward to your contribution.

Well, it would be cool if they did something like the advisor romances in DA:I. I thought that struck a good balance.

That would be interesting twist on romances at least. Not only in romance, but in general it would be nice to play as person who is not everyone's boss, but I don't know if Bioware's story-telling and gameplay would fit that.

Better idea: how about romances are just out of the chain of command, period?

I'd be more curious on how BioWare would handle a companion that takes a more active interest in the PC without you having to prompt it with flirtatious dialogue. I imagine it would draw plenty of complaints somehow, but I'd like to see it. Like, your character catches the eye of some barista on the not-Citadel and makes hints when you order space coffee.

It's a game. No need for any Human Resources BS to seep it's way into it.

I second this. In fact, I'd much rather play a character with no military affiliation at all and thus not bound to follow anyone's orders or pursue the interests of some governing entity. I guess it's too late for that kinda thinking though...

@both aimi and snakecode: I really just want to seduce a superior officer

@Kaisershep: love it. the more people my extremely sexy PC attracts the better

It's not "Human resources BS".

By not romancing a subordinate, you are

a> avoiding showing favoritism

b> avoiding coercion of the subordinate on the basis that you could force them into bed with you

c> avoiding charges of rape

d> avoiding morale breakdowns among your team

e> avoiding the reputation of being a lecherous horndog that makes subordinates have sex with them.

There are many GOOD reasons to not date a subordinate, and many reasons why dating a subordinate is usually a criminal offense in military codes of justice.

I'd like a romance with someone of equal rank (I'm fine with being stuck at sergeant or some such myself, thank you very much), but make that romance very subtle and subdued because both parties actually stick to the no fraternisation rules. Just looks and small gestures and the occasional innuendo. At the end of the main story, the protagonist quits military service and the romance's resolution - or its real start, if you will - is in the epilogue.

Don't get me wrong, everything you say is correct. In real life all of this applies to the workplace, however as previously stated, this is a game. The goal is to have fun, and be a form of escapism. There is no need for HR BS.

FemShep dating Samantha Traynor would be a prime example of this... except that Traynor took charge within that relationship, not to mention she set things up to go her way from the very beginning.

Personally i hope the pathfinders are more informal.

However if there is a chain of command i hope they continue to allow ability to romance subordinates.

Not a fan of romancing superiors as still view non companion romances as poorer.

Have a superior be a potential romance is fine. Having all of our romance options consist of our superiors: stupid.

You mean like a stalker? Or just someone we can friendzone? I thought you could already do that to Kaidan?

They already tried that with Anders in DA2 and I'll grant that his timing was terrible RIGHT after his best friend is made tranquil but in all honesty most of the "butt" hurt was because anders was hitting on players who couldn't handle a gay man fancying them. I recall hearing all the uproar over the aggressive Anders romance. So having bought the game on sale I'd see what people were upset about. So Anders says he likes me, I say not interested and then kept waiting for him to get all aggressive trying to get into my pants then suddenly the chantry is blowing up and Anders is dead. I am like WTF?!?! So his one comment is the aggressive come-on? You say no thanks and he NEVER mentions it again? That is not an aggressive come on by any stretch of the imagination but people freaked out because they couldn't handle the idea that an imaginary gay penis wanted them. What if it turned them gay? What if people saw that and assumed I wanted his gay lips all over my rippling... err though I was gay too.

This is why we can't have nice things because when they did it people got stupid about it.

Maybe we never reach over the rank of private and the only romance option will be the drill sergeant?

Every romance response will result in answers like "Down and give me fifty, maggot!" "Shuddup and run ten laps around the whole compound! If you can't make it in an hour you get latrine duty."

"What's that maggot? Romance? Crawl around in the dirt for a while and I might not consider it." etc

I thought the uproar was about losing approval with him for turning him down? Well at least it isn't like Dragon's Dogma where they just pick your romantic partner for you, though I will admit there is a part of me that would love to see Bioware incorporate this idea if only to see the forums burst into flames.

If its a military setting, that is something that would be nice. It always bugged me how Shepard can go around shagging his subordinates and no one cares.

In practical terms a romance needs to be someone we spend a decent amount of time with, and those tend to be subordinates. I suppose a TIM or Anderson romance could perhaps have worked.

A looser, less military command structure would help.
