DAO: Zevran

DA2: Isabela

DAI: Sera

Over-all: Sera. I love the romances (and characters) that are easy-going and fun, but hers is especially my favourite because of how heart-warming it is too. In particular, things like her rooftop cookie scene, wedding and diary entries. She constantly had me in good spirits, and her conflicts with the Inquisitor felt pretty organic. Even just the general flow of the romance felt quite natural, especially in contrast to Zev and Izzy's formula. They had a bit of 'we've just met, let's bang' followed by 'no, no feelings, I will now shun you for a while' followed by 'I fell in love'. Whereas with Sera there was that element of uncertainty always there, until she finally feels secure in the relationship. Tbh, there have been a lot of amazing romances, especially in DAI. I really loved Solas, Cassandra, Josephine and Dorian's romances too.

DAO: Leliana, because she was my only option. Thankfully, I did wind up liking her a lot, and we had a nice rapport in-game.

DA2: Merrill, who's perfect in virtually every way. Sadly, there can be only one of her.

DAI: Complicated. Sera is my preferred romance story, for basically all the reasons listed by BraveVesperia, but it's so incomplete and full of holes if you romance her as an elf that I believe that my canon PC has to go for Josephine. Sera had the misfortune of having a great romance stuck onto, let's face it, an incomplete character arc. Josephine's romance doesn't have nearly as much content, but as a person, she's very engaging, and she might have more natural chemistry with my PC anyway.

For the series as a whole, Merrill, due to the aforementioned "perfect" thing.

DAO: Alistair. He was my first romance in a BioWare game ever, and I remember the hours I spent reading the guides for his approval. To this day, I still don't know if I liked him because he reminded me of my crush at the time or vice versa.
DA2: Sebastian. There's something about his arch that really speaks to me. He has very little main game content, but I loved to see him treated (almost) as an equal romance in the DLCs, the Keep and DAI. Anders is a close second for me, but Sebastian is my canon.
DAI: Cullen. His romance hit exactly the spot of Alistair's romance feelings, and inspired me to start writing again in form of fanfiction. I just love everything about the romance. It feels so real: the awkward build-up, the not-like-the-movies (or ironically, exactly like in the movies) first kiss and the support the couple gives to each other whenever one of them hits a rough spot. I've had so much fun filling the gaps between the cutscenes in my mind.

I don't know what this tells about me. Gotta love them Chantry boys?

Solas. It's hands down the best romance. It adds so much to the story and the character. Usually romances are just some fun side content... this one was much more than that and I love it. It inspires me. I mean Fen'Harel has been my favorite character from Dragon Age lore ever since I played the dalish elf origin in DAO. The romance was sweet, funny, sad, heartbreaking... so many feelings! I remember when I finished it for the first time. It was my second playthrough of DAI. The first one had been male elf who romanced Dorian and so I was absolutely convinced that Solas would return to Lavellan after the celebration party and they would finally have their love scene... when that didn't happen I was just devastated. I'm glad Trespasser gave me the - sort of - happy ending I was looking for. Hope for the future too!

I don't usually even like romances that much, but this one really changed the way I saw the story, my own character and everything...

My favourite LI of the series would be Solas.

DAO: Alistair

DA2: Still playing

DAI: Solas

I would say, though, that I found the romance with Alistair more satisfying, since I don't personally enjoy having my heart broken. But I love Solas as a character and LI.

Honestly, any romance that does not involve a Cousland, Hawke or Trevelyan.

My Canon State

Origins - Alistair (I accidentally romanced him the first time I played Dragon Age - had no idea I could romance anyone, but he fooled me and stole my heart).

II - Isabela. (I originally romanced Anders but dropped him pretty quick after 1st playthrough), I really liked Isabela's Romance, you get to worm your way into her heart and she slowly opens up to you.

Inquisition - Iron Bull. I just can't stop romancing him because I really like his romance (and the party conversation). (Though Solas, Cullen and Josephine are close behind).

DAO - Zevran (only choice available)

DA2 - Fenris (perfect for my male Hawke)

DAI - Bull (favorite companion next to Cass and Cole)

Overall? Cassandra.

What made me decide about this is that the relationship and the road towards it provides so much passion that it made the romance much more alive than I expected. Though to be fair, the others I've romanced are Alistair, Morrigan, Isabela, Anders (regret it so much), and Cullen.

In dao it was Leliana who ended up winning my preference in the long run.
In da2 I was in love with izzy from moment 1.
There was no one in inquisition who kept my interest in the end.
Izzy wins by a landslide for me.

DA:O - Alistair - He's there with you from Ostagar, he's adorable, and I actually find his stupid jokes chuckle-worthy. And I was devastated when I took him with me to face the archdemon after refusing the Dark Ritual. But it made for a very dramatic story, where the romance I was in clearly had an actual impact on events, which I love.

DA2 - Fenris - Breaking with my pattern in the other two picks here, I know Anders' romance would have the most impact/tie in with the story. But Fenris grabbed a hold of my heart early on and refused to let go (sorry). I like his writing, his personality, the voice acting, the perspective on Tevinter Slavery/Seheron/the Qunari. I also like that sometimes he makes me want to smack him (like with Merrill in act 3) and I can tailor our relationship to reflect that disgruntlement with the rivalry system.

DA:I - Solas - Its a close thing btwn him and Cullen. Cullen gives warm and fuzzy, rom/com-esque feels, but who Solas is to the lore and plot, and the extra layer of connection it gives him to the world (as well as Inquisitor Lavellan to him), makes his romance the best for me.

Of these three, Fenris is the only one that's ended happily so far, and I think he's my favorite of the three men as far as character is concerned. But I do so love the epicness of having a protagonist who's in love with Fen'Harel and vice versa. So I think Solas is my overall fave, so far. Depending on what happens with his character in DA4, this opinion could either be reversed or strengthened.

I don't necessarily equate favorite romance with favorite romanceable character, so this might be a bit convoluted. Iron Bull might be my favorite character in the franchise and he's a LI, but I don't usually romance him. Not because he's not a smooshy marshmallow who brings the feels (HE IS), but because Sera's romance arc struck a particular chord with me and I'm just as happy being his friend as his lover. So anywho, favorite romances:

DAO: Zevran. Not my canon romance, but by far my fave. I love when the assassin falls in love with the mark - the romance feels extra satisfying knowing that it started off so very rocky. I love his background and the vulnerability it brings to his character, how he's willing to get his hands dirty. His personality gelled really well with my fierce, loyal Tabris. The earring offer felt especially poignant because she was still carrying around her fiancé's ring, and she felt it was time to move on. I dunno, really... this romance brought all the feels. Asking the Warden if they want him to stay and what his place is, and basically giving him a sense of self-worth he never got with the Crows... it's lovely. And when he finally admits that he'd storm the Black City itself for you, I believed it.

DA2: Fenris, with Isabela as a close second. I love Fenris's romance for a lot of the same reasons I love Zevran's - the vulnerability and hidden strength, struggling with what it means to be your own person in a world that wants to own you. He's fiercely loyal and unapologetically devoted to Hawke, and freely admits that Hawke's the most important thing to ever happen to him. Once he wrestles with his feelings your relationship is solid. That boy ain't never gonna leave your side again. Feeling worthy of that level of love and devotion was pretty great. And now I can't kill Hawke in the Fade because, "Promise me you won't die. I can't bear the thought of living without you."

DAI: SERA SERA SERA. Hers is quite possibly my favorite romance in the series. The greatest gift you can give her - and this is the sweetest thing - is being proud of her and your relationship with her. She's been looked down on all her life for being poor and uneducated, an elf but too human, never good enough until you come along and treat her like something special to be treasured. She's hugely affectionate with her nicknames and schmoopy journal entries, her silly but heartfelt gifts. If someone hurts you, whether it's Corypheus or some racist Orlesian or whatever else, they're getting an arrow in the face. She's a secret (or not so secret?) romantic. She's just... the greatest, ahhh.

edit: I think my running theme is devotion. LI's who would break a jaw for you, hahaha.

I love your take on the romances and agree about Fenris and Zevran.  I was never into Zev but made myself try it out, and ended up loving him to bits.

So now, because of your posts, Sera has gone from 'probably not' to pretty high up my romance to-do list.  So thank you for that.

I felt the same thing for Zevran and Fenris. In the Inquisitor somehow still have not found the "true one". Cassandra was okay, but her duty called she away. Dorian nor true one (though he have some good moments), Solas seems good choice from aspect of the story, but I do not think, I will finish my femLavellan for him (too much timekiller quests in game, i tired from it), I never tryed Bull yet, maybe once... (I would like Blackwall / Cullen), but not with fem char.)

I tryed to like Sera, seriously, I like her vievpoints, i like her rebellious spirit, but i cant like her manner of speech. Too ... jerk, rough, childish ... annoying for me. I like her in group with Vivienne / Solas / Dorian and Bull. :)

When Sera murdered that noble right in front of me, she signed her own name on my ****list. (Look, modbots! The whole bad word is censored this time!)

That plus her viewpoints on the elves, her stubborness, that awful short hair... I don't see how anyone could like her.

The world is better off without trash like that guy. Why anyone would be upset over his death is beyond me.
