Hi all. Over the past months I have been brainstorming with Tchos Over the possibility of a common project.

How we came to talk about it

With my increasing university duties, I found that I have less and less time to work on my campaign. I do want to, but priorities are priorities. Thinking that Tchos is probably working on some new project since his work got released a while back, I asked him/offered if he wants to do something together. He was positive on the idea, and only that, he already had some story planned.

So we talked about it, and I liked the story background. Long story short we decided to do it together. We'll use the idea he has, with some extra things I'll give to it.

Reasons

As PJ noted, the amount of modules released is really low. I want the community to stay alive, and I can't possibly finish my own work in time. It will be nice I think if this project gets finished over this year and released during the next. This, plus PJ's project will provide something to show that we are still here with (hopefully) quality work.

Theme etc.

It is still a bit loose in my head, and perhaps Tchos is the appropriate person to talk about story and so on, but all I can say is that it will also be based in my custom world, offer exclusively SoZ style conversation, a new cinematic system where the player has full control of his character to walk around as he hear people talking (if you played Tchos' module you've seen it somehow), and a scripting system in general that is well thought through and stable :).

The process would had already started, if we didn't need some specific CC for it, which I think Tchos will work on. Other than that, we just need to get down on it and this is a reason why I announce it. Perhaps it will put some necessary pressure on us :). Lastly, as much as I would, and Tchos of course, like to see this come to life, please understand that at the moment it is just on the talks. However I don't see why it shouldn't progress.

Side note regarding my campaign

It is not going to be on hiatus as I am working with Tchos. It's just reached a spot where the amount of work needed for writing quests is immense. Therefore, I will still work on it but just a little bit at a time. I still hope to have it finished after summer, but we'll see.

Yes, we've discussed it at length privately as far as what we do and don't want in such a campaign.  The story is entirely separate from Candle Cove, and wouldn't fit in well there.  One reason is that I envision levels starting around 5-7 instead of 10-12, and another is that it's addressing what I've mentioned now and then in various posts, that I want to do a campaign that focuses strongly on the more exotic, fantastical non-human cultures instead of human-dominated cities where the non-human races are expected to subsume their cultures and conform to human societies, relegated to small foreign quarters.  That's the main reason I need to make a good amount of custom content.

Sounds like a good idea. Collaborative projects make sense for larger modules.

As Andy mentioned, this will be in the world setting he designed, rather than in the Forgotten Realms, and part of my attraction to that prospect is that Faerun (at least in the eras where most of the setting material is focused) has a distinct lack of the kind of capital cities ruled by non-humans such as elves, unless you're looking at drow.  The grand cities like Myth Drannor are in ruins, and the elven retreat kept cities like that from rising again.  In Andy's setting, there's a stronger presence of these and others, and I'm freer to place the kind of large-scale magic-drenched projects that should be far more prominent in a high-magic world than they ever appear in the Forgotten Realms.
