Who says we will understand the aliens we meet? Maybe all we will hear on first contact is a bunch of clicks and whistles we can't understand. Maybe part of the game will be to establish communications with aliens we can't understand.

I'd rather they go with this rather than a bunch of made up languages where every word sounds the same ala Star Wars
It was probably to save disk space, as well as in the Jade Empire with their weird "Old Chinese".
Everyone spoke English in the milky way, everyone will speak English in Andromeda.
