I think a Batarian squadmate in MEA could become the fan favorite. Having a squadmate with a legitimately relativistic morality would be something pretty unique for BioWare and video games in general. So long as they don't make a Batarian that's a raving lunatic, a slaver or a terrorist they could use a Batarian as a perfect platform to do something new. This is what I've had in mind:

 

Darith Sebfugar - Male Batarian adept. Formerly the commander of a special Batarian task force with the goal of policing Batarian pirates and slavers to avoid political and military blowback. Usually abrasive, argumentative and full of bravado, but sharp, wise, helpful and very likeable. Also unconcerned with social niceties and personal feelings, frequently using insults and badgering to get his point across. Despite being outwardly apathetic and grandiose most of the time, he’s deeply emotional, empathetic and introverted. Basically Dr.Cox(of 'Scrubs').

 

Bray was fitting as well for that role.

Not really.

There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of Batarian refugees that make it to Citadel space, and even more living in the Terminus Systems.

Not really. There's no need to bring along a large amount of any race to repopulate in another galaxy. All that would be needed is enough genetic material to ensure proper genetic diversity.

Well they kinda were assholes and went overboard with their whole thing of slavery being part of their culture.

Cultures change and no culture is completely one-sided. America was hugely pro-slavery, even during the Civil War.

They still had a few fleets left if you "made some sacrifices." And EDI seems to indicate there enough of the people left to guide themselves without the Hegemony.

But yes their gov and high command were obliterated is the way I read it in the main game.

True, true. As for the Asari they didn't really ever build a slavery culture though. But I see your point. The way I see it, the more diversity the better. And I'm happy about any milkyway port really...

EDI also mentions that Batarians are different without the Hegemony watching so who knows...

Well, we know that Bioware is using motion capture for at least some of the the animations in Mass Effect: Andromeda. 

 

I would guess though that they used motion capture for some of the cutscenes in ME3. But I have no solid info on that.

If BF4 is any indication we will. Granted that was made by DICE and they know how to handle their engine. Generally the Unreal engine isn't that good concerning mocap but we'll see. The dress as a whole looked really awkward but so did the faces if you did them yourself. Personally I never bothered, the default looks Hero like to me and is decent. In any case I want that dance!
