I had my no-gel puggery switch turned on in the early times. Wanted weapons, but I wasn't good enough to stay alive on silver with every kit and I wanted to play with many of them, so play with the same kit, or no-gel. It's kinda like the teenager age; you remember back on the time and you facepalm every time how awfully stupid you were. Stay on the appropriate level always (in your case bronze), because no-one but a few idiots will shun you there if you are helping with objectives and they don't matter. Also, you shouldn't have an Avenger I, buy Recruit packs until you have the basic weapons at X. Trollstore might trick you a few times, but bronze gives you enough money to buy 3 after every round, so you should have them in a week.

Probably this is why Silver is swarmed with Puggernauts (it's almost ridicuolous that more than half of the games has at least one), they can stay alive by spamming heavy melee, but on Gold there are very few of them, if I see one it's usually a veteran who knows what he's/she's doing. There is the occasional leecher, but it is very rare. (Now it's occurring to me: why don't low level pugs use the Juggernaut on Gold? They would stay alive longer than they would with an Asari Adept, a Novaguard, the Fury or other kits I saw leeching in the past days. PUG logic or I am missing something here? Of course, from wave 5-6-7 they would stand no chance as they would be swarmed, maybe earlier if we roll Collectors, but the earlier waves would be easier.)

Low level pugs do use the Juggy on Gold. At times they can be great addition, but are usually just a nuisance especially with the shield that blocks out the sun. The objective thing made me wonder how this playstyle came to be.

 

So I went pugging a few games on Silver to see and that's how many play. They basically are milking the OBJ waves(especially whoever the host is) which is no big deal in Silver since the enemies are easy to kill and players can put off that 5min timer til the last moment.

 

On gold+ a juggy can be the best player to do a device that's in the open since he has higher shields(presumably) has a shield/turret and a husk or Abomb wont knock them off with 2 or 3 secs to finish.

 

But I think many bronze or silver players won't do the objectives on Gold+ because they are scared of dying, they hope someone else will step up to the plate and save them the effort.

 

I pug Gold between 15-30 games a day the last few months and I see this type of game play constantly. There are times during any game where a missile is an obvious answer to not getting wiped, but many pugs wont use any Because.Wave.11 and then die right after that missile goes off. They only have maybe 2 gels or 2 missiles, so of course they are going to save them til W11 for extra pts(if they made it that far) instead of wasting them in their eye for objectives.

 

For many low level pugs, they are so scared of how Gold and higher plays out that they aren't confident going out from a camping position, and when the chaos of Extraction comes, they just panic. Camping on bronze or silver, if that's what they have been doing works for them, so bad habits develop.

 

A majority of games I play have players who struggle to score 20k-30k by wave 10.

If you started this thread because of the light hearted pug bashing in the "your last pug in one word" thread, keep in mind that most posters in that thread play the game on gold difficulty.

 

If people are giving pugs grief for playing with bad weapons and low level or no gear in bronze or silver lobbies then they're tool bags and shouldn't be taken seriously. But if pugs are going to gold or platinum lobbies with bad weapons and no gear fully knowing that they're going to contribute very little to the game and generally speaking be a liability to the team then yeah.. no sympathy for them.

That said, it is possible for a well played basic kit to perform decently enough on Gold even with sub par weapons. However, this tends to be the exception rather than the rule especially among PUGs.

Weak pugs are overblown on this forum.

 

Most pug matches I end up in have moderately competent players who try to contribute with the objectives. The players that don't do them annoy me however.

 

I still lol thinking about the Adas wielding Juggy that missile glitched on wave 11 in a match I played a couple weeks ago.

It's how I became better as a player. You are almost guaranteed to be put in horrible situations at one point or another.
