I hated how ME3 locked your love interest as soon as you comitted. I could accept it for being the final chapter, but it felt unrealistic to me. Shepard is part character and part an extension of the player: that's why we have choices and customizability and that's why we play as him/her, so it felt weird to me, not being able to go to my love interest and say "hey, I break up with you." In ME2 you could.
I don't know if there was a fear of controversy of the game being a sex-simulator because in ME2 you could have a romance at the end game and then break up to try another one immediately. Pretty silly stuff, but honestly I hope there is more of a romance system in ME:A than there was in ME3 or ME1.
What if you could have a one-night stand with someone, like James in the Citadel DLC? It would be awesome just being able to screw around but naturally there should be some kind of punishment for never being serious about love, like in Witcher 3 if you try to get both girls.
