I like drill ammo for double hits.  I love being able to one-shot Gold Ravagers from cloak; I think double hits are necessary to do that.

Depending on your bonuses and the debuff you apply, it might not be.

 

However, double hits on ravagers are achievable even with a simple AP mod, so you definitely don't need drill ammo for that.

if you are going pure claymore (i.e. no powers aka GI) then use smart choke, the OLD damage barrel and AP/drill ammo. If you use the new damage barrel that has piercing too, it makes it so you don't get 100% damage when shooting through walls. If you're using a class which you can detonate fire explosions (i.e. something that has a power that synergises with the claymore by masking the reload animation after you shoot like batarian sentinel), use Incendiary ammo, smart choke, and the new damage+piercing barrel.

There is two good ammo for Claymore.

 

AP/Drill: Most of everything dies with one shot.

 

Incendiary ammo: If enemy won't die right away, there is good chance it will burn to death. Making it one hit kill anyway.

My Morinth (huntress) likes warp ammo on her claymoar. One shot the ravager and mop up all the swarmers and husks with the DC. AP is good too.
