This is why having a human protagonist makes sense... Just look at the facts below

 

Asari... Reliance upon alien species for reproduction shows genetic weakness.

Geth, an annoyance. Limited utility.

Krogan, sterilized race. Potential wasted.

Salarian insufficient lifespan, fragile genetic structure.

Drell......... Useless. Insufficient numbers.

Quarian, considered due to cybernetic augmentation. Weakened immune system too debilitating.

Turian, you were considered... Too primitive. 

 

On the other hand, this is why having a human protagonist is the best. Viable possibilities:

 

• Impressive genetic malleability.
• Aggressive factor useful if controlled.
• Great biotic potential.
• If emotional drives are subjugated.
• Impressive technical potential.

See, as humans, we are superior. Does everything make sense now?

The less said about Bioware's indulgence in the stupid Humans Are Special trope, the better. It's the single worst trope in all of science fiction.

The Krogan are not a sterilized race any longer.

How about:

• Asari: People would whine about not wanting to play a female character.
• Geth: Nobody in-universe would entrust humanity's future to a geth.
• Krogan: Andromeda mission potentially left before genophage was cured.
• Salarian: Severely limits the romance options.
• Drell: Too religious for the vocal atheist e-community.
• Quarian: Character customization effectively useless.
• Turian: "Color" and "facial markings" are only character customization options.

There was one Drell that was religious. By that logic humans shouldn't be available either since Ashley was religious.

And skin texture, fringe lengths, things like scars, etc.

Humans are boring, sadly it's almost impossible for BioWare to make race options a reality in SP (well in a way that doesn't leave us with 'pick between a human who looks like a turian, human who looks like an asari, human who looks like a quarian' etc.) so we're stuck with lame humans.

I think Harbinger unintentionally insulted not only himself but the other Reapers since I think they rely on the goo of other species to create more Reapers thereby making their version of reproduction dependent upon other species.

Humans are special was a narrative ME3 decided to have, and strangely enough both Mac and Drew would've forced this. Drew talked about the Reapers seeing humans as the key to solving the biggest conflict in the universe of "the big crunch" and Mac just makes humans special because Earth and whatever.

 

I have no problem with ME1's version of emphasising humans in Mass Effect. They were the underdogs and had to prove themselves. I loved being in that position as someone who had notorious reputation and was constantly doubted by the new aliens. They really nailed the feeling that these other peers are aliens in that they weren't quick to like you.

 

Rumors said ME:A is going to be about humanity moving into uncharted territory yet again and our goal is to colonize both humans and aliens in Andromeda. That sounds really neat (except dangerously close to DA:I's game-design). I don't think the "humans are special" trope was a trope outside of ME3 and I hope they won't be as banal about it again in ME:A

Actually humans are special is pretty much as old as scifi. Star Trek is one notorious example, after all the humans are in control of the Federation and basically by the time of DS9 the whole of Federation is adapting to humanity.

Problem is here, everyone uses the BSN to poll **** about opinion and a playable alien race would be a hit. But Bioware statistics have clearly shown that wider range of ME players who aren't involved in BSN and don't shoot out romance fan art like a f*cking machine gun have other preferences. And well surprise those pay just as much as hardcore fans do.
