I was talking about Dragon Age. ME came first, but DAO was so long in the making, it was their first fresh IP. If he was dissatisfied with leaving DnD behind, he certainly didn't show it during the time DAO was being worked on.

I think he was a senior writer for the IP. But don't quote me on that.

(whoops, forgot about Jade Empire. Correction, the first new IP after the DnD ones that he worked on)

Got it, I was misreading.

I would have thought it would be less about DnD vs. original IP and more about large AAA company culture vs. indie game culture.

It's exciting that he, Avellone and Knowles will all be on the same team. I haven't heard anything about BG3 but am now looking forward to it.

Oh there's not much to hear about, other than "It's being developed." But it could be good.

Games like Baldur's Gates has a strong nostalgia with many gamers, if they make it, I'm 80% certain that people will find it terrible regardless of what it is, but still, I hope they make another one though. It's just a good IP to let die like this, it's like Chrono Trigger, one of the best RPG ever made, but Square-Enix decides to abandon it to make Final Fantasy 248 or whatever number they have now.

That isn't true at all for me at least. Played BG2 again sometime ago, and honestly it was even better than I remembered it to be, and I remembered it to be a pretty damn good! Of course if you need to see some 3d bull riding it probably isn't for you.

BG3 is not being developed, well not the way people think of it when they say that. Any new games that isn't set in or in-between BG1 and BG2 or IWD has to be 5e and Beamdog wants to move to a 3D engine for any new games.

I'm not talking about existing games, but if they make another game with updated graphic and 3D engine and everything, many of the old fans will say how terrible the new game is. It happens almost with every classic games and how the new game ruined it.  The more nostalgic a game is, the harder it is to please people.

Quite honestly, I would probably prefer a new game with those developers than a rehashed BG sequel/sidequel whatever. If they can make the game fresh and unique, great. I feel that Forgotten Realms is fairly basic of a setting, though, kind of the default fantasy setting. I like the world building Gaider and co. could do and would love to see them work on developing a new IP. But I'll probably buy anything they make.

Yeah I would hope that the new game is the spirit of BG, like DA, but not a continuation of the BG story. Let the Bhaalspawn saga rest.

That's why the cancelled BG3 from a few years ago about the black hound was so confusing. It was an RPG set in Forgotten Realms, but had nothing to do with the Bhaalspawn. It seemed to be riding the name recognition of the brand.

Not fan of BG , I really struggled playing those games and I first tried like 10 years ago to get into it.

I managed to finish BG1 , and stopped BG2 after some awful underworld area.I did manage to finish the area but I was done.It was like last year...

Writing was quirky (and I mean one note quirk like Minsk) at best , annoying at worst.I want to beat this npc to death with a shovel annoying.

I don't like  the setting at all honestly.

Anyway we shall see ,I enjoyed Pillars of Eternity and played some Tides of Numenera alpha and it was pretty good .

But I have zero nostalgia when it comes to old Bioware games , or even old 2D games in general.

The games are very mod friendly, and AFAIK there is still an active modding community for the games. That's a big help in keeping players involved and engaged with the games. They are very different from the modern games, but I enjoy the party tactical paused combat. I miss having a party of six!

This is exciting all around. I have no doubt that Weekes is up to the task of leading Dragon Age, and it feels like this could reinvigorate David, who seemed a little tired not of Dragon Age but the process surrounding it towards the end. Hopefully there can be a Baldur's Gate revival. Maybe then people will stop demanding that Dragon Age be an iso CRPG (Lol who am I kidding they'll do it anyway).

Creative Director is a huge step up.  He's pretty much running the show.

Let's see what his first game is like and if his reputation after DA: I rings true.

The Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions are also available for tablets and other mobile devices.

Whether or not any original games they make are available for consoles probably depends on what kind of engine they end up using and what kind of game they make. (Traditional isometric cRPGs do not play well with console controllers.)

And as much as I admire the big names they seem to have at this studio, I have to say that if their original work turns out to be a traditional isometric CRPG, its a no-buy for me. I learned my lesson after PoE, Wasteland 2 and Divinity.

I'm looking forward to what they come up with. Cautiously optimistic perhaps.

Learned my lesson from the mess that was Sword coast Legends, but enjoyed PoE and D:OS. Kinda hit the wall with Wasteland 2 though...

Right now I'm enjoying the new X-com 2 - fantastic game. Will be even better when a few little issues are sorted.

Beamdog has done okay with the enhanced editions of old classics from Bioware and Black Isle. It will be interesting to see if Baldur's Gate III remains an isometric design based on their Enhanced Infinity engine or will they create or license a 3D engine.

If Beamdog remains with the Infinity engine then BGIII will probably be PC. The only way that will change is if Microsoft or Sony provide some engine development money so that the game will play on the respective consoles.

Negotiations  fell through for the other games by Beamdog.
