So while 17 years is a long time and I wish @davidgaider all good things, this feels like David's favorite endings in that it's bittersweet.
Which is only appropriate, let's face it. ![]()

I am surprised that Mr Gaider is going as I thought he was working on the new IP.
Maybe he needs a change after 17 years.
Will be checking to see what you will be working on in future but it will be strange without you on the BW forums.
Maybe he'll team up with Chris Avellone ![]()
At any rate, hats of to you good sir.
I wish Mr. Gaider the very best. It was always entertaining to watch him logically explain his position given some of the posts on this forum. Also WOG (Word of Gaider) ended many disagreements on this forum.
I know i should be cool about this, things change etc. My first reaction however was "NOOOOOOO". This sucks! There is no other way to say it.
Wish him the best going forward, and hopefully he will still be working on games.
I wasn't expecting that. He wanted to leave Dragon Age to do something new, which I can understand, so it's a surprise for me that he'd leave Bioware completely right after starting something new. It'd odd.
I have mixed feelings about this. I was never a fan of his attitude in real life, but he is a great character writer, and I was hoping he'd set a good foundation of characters in the new IP (although I don't even know if I'll be interested in it since we know nothing about it). Maybe he did already.

Yes. For all we know, he has already written whatever characters/subplots he was going to write for the new IP. This seems normal these days, with writers working on a game for only a certain period of time before moving on to other projects.
I wasn't surprised myself. I saw this coming from a mile away (or more specifically, when he quit DA).
I'll never forget the work he put in for the Ascension mod
Godspeed, Gaider.
Blast it all to puddles. What news to see when I logged in today.
Good luck Mr. Gaider! DA is what got me into gaming.
Looking forward to hearing what you are going to do next.
Aw man, what a damn shame...whatever your reasons, David, thanks for giving us wonderful characters like Alistair, Morrigan, Dorian to name a few. Best of luck, mate.
Sad news.... I will miss his writing and influence at Bioware. ![]()
But I guess 17 years is a long time to work at any company these days. I hope he is moving on to new and exciting projects, wherever he is going next. I will surely check it out when he is ready to share.
Well...that's that. I now literally cannot get back into the building. Cue sad Hulk theme music as I walk away.
Good luck in all your future endeavours, David. Thank you for all the wonderful characters... Alistair, Morrigan, Flemeth, Viconia, Carth, Fenris, Dorian, to name but a few. BioWare won't be the same without you.
End of an era, indeed.
Good bye, David!
At first wanted to just cry and scream "whyyyy!" and "how could you!" like everyone, but... It does not matter. You obviously had a reason to do so and no amount of fan's rage and tears will stop you.
So, all I will say - good luck to you! Bioware will never be the same without you but you will remain one of the best writer in the game industry! Thank you for everything you did for us - gamers!

Well, that is a shame. Best of luck to David in the future, whatever he ends up doing.
It is sad, best of luck to him wherever he goes next. I enjoyed his writing.
For all the negative comments we can make about where DA has gone, it wouldn't have been possible at all without Gaider. I'm certainly grateful for this incredible world he's created for us.
Also, this guy.
I wasn't crying before. Now I am. Thanks. And that isn't entirely sarcastic. A moment of sorrow isn't entirely inappropriate, under the circumstances.
Wishing David all the very best. I will definitely miss his writing! Excited to see where he goes next!
Maybe he'll team up with Chris Avellone

Nah, Chris Avellone hates romances and actively goes out of his way to sabotage them in any game he helps to develop. As for Gaider leaving Bioware, I am conflicted. That's all I'll say on the matter. Any elaboration and I'll probably get moderated. I did love Fenris though. I'll give him that. Guys....I think...I think we didn't lock in the Gaider romance. He probably got so mad over the Bioware forums being nothing but romance discussion he broke up with us. That's my headcanon.

Creatives need to shake themselves up I guess.
The Dragon Age writing has been feeling "tired" since DA2, the banter is less memorable and fresh with each game and the plots went away from low fantasy to become high fantasy dragon ball Z style.
Dragon Age needs a Gaiderless reboot, like Tomb Raider.
Re-do the setting, throw away the flemeth's, fenharels, and old gods.
Just political intrigues, death, treachery, passion, war. Magic and gods should be secondary and not the center of the game.
Does this mean that in DA4 a dwarf romance is possible then?
Not that I ever cared for dwarves myself, but a lot of people have been requesting them.
