This is annoying....I just started Act 2 and am doing the "Repentance" quest with Sebastian.  I made it through the mansion, went into the caverns and killed demons.  Now I reach what looks like the final room....I see a Desire Demon and a mage in the foreground, but when my team moves in their direction, the screen freezes, I see the word "loading" on the screen but it never finishes loading.

Anyone have this problem?

Never mind....  I solved the problem by hitting the ESC key.  I still don't know why it froze up in the first place, but ESC unfroze everything.

I have that same issue, and only during that scene. ESC works, but you miss the first line or two of dialogue.

It's a problem that was introduced in the last DA2 patch. I strongly suggest you do a hard save before you do Sebastian's Act 3 quest, just in case you have problems in that as well.

It's a known issue but it's never got fixed, sadly. Pressing ESC and skipping the cutscene is the best solution I've found.

Thanks for the tip!  I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this problem.  Dumb question, but what does the patch fix anyhow?  For me, the patch allowed me to get beyond the "date release check" problem, but once you've started the game, that's no longer an issue.  Does it do anything else?

I still have the problem of "body parts disappearing."    This doesn't appear mod-related.  Correcting it requires "save, quit, and restart."

Wiki has a list of changes for individual patches: http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II) I play with it installed, so I can't say from experience.

As for the graphics issues you're experiencing, do you happen to have a nVidia GPU? Newer nVidia drivers cause a lot of issues for me - glitched textures, messed up models, lame framerate, etc. The original, old drivers make the game work flawlessly, though. Then again, I'm on a fairly old laptop with a fairly old GPU, so I'm not sure whether it's the same thing you're experiencing.

I actually have a new (less than a year old) Alienware computer, so you would think I wouldn't have problems with older games.  But then again....   That's the big advantage of console games.  All consoles are the same, so a game that's designed for a particular console will work with minimal problems.  By contrast, PC games are played on systems that can be greatly diverse:  newer versus older systems, different video cards, different drivers, etc.  Of course, with consoles, you are stick with whatever the game companies give you.  No chance at varying things via mods.

Yeah, that's the thing. I love being on PC. I haven't had a console since I was a little kid. I wouldn't have it any other way, either. Whenever something goes wrong, I can just go and find a fix or workaround. It is very rare for a problem to be completely unfixable. I can mod and tweak my games. I can dismantle their assets. I can easily take pictures and videos. Etc. But some of those things are certainly a lot of extra work and I agree that with all that varied hardware and software PCs have, there's always high risk of incompatibility. If anything, playing on PC made me rather tech savvy as I simply had to learn if I wanted to solve a problem, lol. I can definitely see how consoles must be much less painful to deal with.
