Greetings, fellow specters! This Christmas i was given the original mass effect  on steam. I quickly finished the game and there's no debate that i want to play the rest of the trilogy!  However, i'm strill pondering how to achive this.

  • What's the best way to get the rest of the series?
  • Should i just buy the trilogy pack on origin?
  • If so can i import  my saves from my steam version?
  • Should i wait for the next steam sale?
  • Should i just buy the two other games seperatly?
  • where do i find the dlcs in that case?

You can enter the CD key for your Steam version into Origin and it will give you the game there as well. I thyink it gives you both DLCs for the game too but I wouldn't quote me on that. Bring Down the Sky can be had for free from here http://help.ea.com/e...dlc-redemption/ and Pinnacle Station is absolute rubbish (coming from someone who thinks the combat in the first game is the best of the series.)

I'm from the UK and the trilogy edition is just £9.95 http://www.amazon.co...rds=mass effect, so if the price is similar where you are then that would be my advice. The money saved compared to buying digital from Origin or the games separately can be used for DLC. Let us know if you want advice on which to buy.

Yes you can import saves across no matter where you buy the games from.

The ME Trilogy is probably your best bet.  Much of the DLC is still extra, but that's true no matter how you acquire the base games.

From the Description page:

On PC, Mass Effect will include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station on disk.  For Mass Effect 2, Cerberus Network will be included which features Zaeed – The Price of Revenge, The Firewalker Pack, Cerberus Assault Gear, Arc Projector heavy weapon, and Normandy Crash site mission.  For Mass Effect 3, Online Pass will be included granting players access to co-op multiplayer.

My personal must-haves of the remaining DLC:

ME2 - Lair of the Shadow Broker, Kasumi - Stolen Memory  (Arrival, not so much.)

ME3 - Omega, From Ashes, Leviathan, and absolutely, Citadel.

Have fun!

I wouldn't call any of the dlc essential, but if you really love the ME universe, then you'll buy them all eventually.

Zaeed's mission isn't all that great, but it'll net you the heavy weapon firestorm (a flamethrower) and Robin Sachs is/was/forever shall be awesome.

Arrival bridges the gap between the end of ME2 and the beginning of ME3 and explains why Shep is on Earth in the last game. It also changes a few lines of dialogue, if you've completed it.

Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi. I loved those. Your mileage may vary.

Firewalker introduces the Hammerhead hover vehicle, has 5 missions and is a fairly enjoyable story. (but the armor is tissue paper.)

Overlord assumes you already have the Hammerhead and is your vehicle during that dlc. But, the story is fantastic and the soundtrack is worth downloading by itself.

The Normandy Crash Site is just Shep alone wandering around the wreckage of the original Normandy, having flashbacks and collecting ID tags. (The ID tags are the names of the people on the memorial wall on Deck 3 on the Normandy in ME3) The music here is from the Collector ship, it's haunting and I love it to pieces.

From Ashes is a good part of the main story that should have been included in the base game and gives you a squad member who is basically a d-bag. But, a funny one.

Leviathan explains the back story of the Reapers, has some decent combat and an interesting section entirely underwater.

Whether or not you like Omega depends on how well you like Aria T'Loak. I loved her, so I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Citadel is both an old school scifi romp and a nice sendoff for the fans. Some think the humor is too silly, I thought it was great and it's my favorite dlc.

Just my two cents. Welcome to the Mass Effect Universe!

You can redeem your Steam key on Origin for a download. The ME1 download includes both BDtS and Pinnacle Station (I agree that Pinnacle Station does not really add anything to the game).

The download url is only for the original retail PC version of ME1 - that came on CD. You can tell - if your game is installed under Program Files/EA then its the original version; if its under /Origin Games its the new..
If you run the installer with the new version it simply fails, as the install path for the patch does not exist. Pinnacle station is not available for the old version.
But you'll be getting the new version anyway..

Thanks for the answers!  I've decided i want all the story related dlcs. Lair of the shadow broker, Omega, Arrival, From Ashes, Citadel and Leviathan are the ones that seems interesting. If there's any others i should play, please let me know.

A follow up question: what's  the easiest and cheapest way to get the second and third game-- and their dlcs?

Again, get the Trilogy.  Then just suck it up and get the DLC on Origin,

Waiting for a "sale" is a fool's game.

For the PC, your best bet is to buy the trilogy which only includes a few DLC (again this is for the PC): ME1 BDtS, ME1 Pinnacle Station and the ME2 Cerberus Network (Normandy Crash Site, and Zaeed - The Price of Revenge). No ME3 DLC.

Or you can wait for the standalone versions of ME3 and ME2 to go on-sale (sometimes as low as $5)
The digital deluxe standalone version of ME2 adds the Cerberus network to the standard version.
The digital deluxe standalone version of ME3 adds From The Ashes to the standard version.

The other DLC have never gone on sale.

Typical cost is 320 Bioware points.  800 bioware points cost $10.

A follow up question: what's  the easiest and cheapest way to get the second and third game-- and their dlcs?

Where are you in the world? I linked to the trilogy for £9.95. I'm in the UK so you might not be able to get that.

The more information you give us, the more help we can give you.

With Mass Effect 1 the only DLC worth playing is Bring Down the Sky. It's a lot of filler to be honest but the actual story elements are good.

Mass Effect 2:

Zaeed - The Price of Revenge: This is free, so a plus in its favour at the start. The mission is good and the character is great fun (voiced brilliantly by the now sadly departed Robin Sachs.)

Normandy Crash Site: A nice tie to the first game but to be honest I only tend to do it because it's there. It doesn't really add anything to the story if you've gone straight from ME1 to ME2.

Firewalker Pack: I could tell you what I think about this DLC but I'd be banned from the forum for doing so. It is utter rubbish.

Kasumi - Stolen Memory: Really good character and the mission is short but entertaining. You also get the best SMG in the game from it, it's almost assault rifle level.

Overlord: Filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler, filler. And if that isn't clear there is a lot of filler in this DLC.

Which is really sad as the story elements when they do appear are genuinely excellent. It's worth fighting through just to experience the ending for the first time.

Lair of the Shadow Broker: My favourite DLC of Mass Effect 2. The combat sections can outstay their welcome a little but the story is great and you get some good info on the rest of your crew. However the big selling point of the DLC is how much you liked Liara from the first game as a character. If you are a fan, as I am, then you will find it brilliant. If you aren't, then it's just going to drag.

Arrival: This was meant to be a bridging DLC between 2 and 3. To be honest though it makes no difference beyond a couple of lines of dialogue and a handful of war assets. Still worth playing if you are a fan of the combat but otherwise, just avoid.

Mass Effect 3:

From Ashes: Without a doubt, get this. Quite frankly I think it is a genuine shock that Javik was made a optional character given what he brings to the game.

You get a great character with some awesome moments in the game, as well as one of the best assault rifles.

The Extended Cut: This DLC, as its name suggests, extends the shipped endings to the game. It's your choice if you want to experience them without it but I would genuinely suggest that you don't. This DLC makes each ending truly unique to the others.

Leviathan: I'm biased. I don't like this DLC because it came out after the game was released and so much of it seems designed to fill in complaints about the endings. The missions are good but the pay off for me wasn't there. You will, I expect, have a different feeling if you first experience it during ME3.

Omega: Do you like the combat and/or do you like the character of Aria. If you can answer yes to one of those then you will like the DLC.

Citadel: My favourite piece of Mass Effect DLC. The story is a bit hokey but it shows Bioware doing what they do best. Making you love the characters that populate their universe.

I'm from Norway. The trilogy costs 319 NOK (£25) on origin.  While the two deluxe editions costs 179 nok (£13.30) each.  Where are the different dlcs located on origin? I can't find them in the store where i search for them.

As far as I know, you can only see them once you buy the base game.
When the game is in your library, you can click on game details to see the available DLC's.
The DLC's cost much more than the games, so they don't want to scare you off before you buy.

If you know what Bioware points cost in your country. All the DLC's for ME3 cost 4800 Bioware points.

+10 for the Robin Sachs.

I still use his/Zaeed's banner in MP.

RIP.

There's an origin sale right now. Does the deluxe editions include anything the trilogy pack doesn't have?

for ME2 deluxe, you just get some in-game items
for ME3 deluxe, you get some in-game items and the DLC 'From The Ashes'
(vs the trilogy)
