No the whole romance/shipping garbage should stay insignificant and minor. This isnt a dating sim for christs sake why are you people so keen on making it so?

And it looks like the market responded :D

Like Joker & EDI, I feel if the crew had relationships to one another that it'd add more depth to the characters. I would really enjoy starting rumors, breaking up relationships, and experiencing all the drama.

I agree! I would like to see more of this as well. It would definitely add to the game.. Ie: I don't wanna do that mission yet, I know; I'm gonna go steal my Joker back from sex-bot EDI  lol (Yeah, that broke my heart.. Joker was meant for me EDI!! <_<  lol)

No, it doesn't. Having the crew blatantly ignore the rules of the military they work for without consequence is not logical and breaks immersion.

So you would not think it would be logical for people to be working and living together for a long amount of time without relationships deeper than just friendships to blossom? Sure, they have an important mission, but they also have down time while getting to said mission.. I think just having characters that are immersed in "We have a mission, let's get to it" would break the immersion of the story for the simple fact they would have no feelings or depth for that character..

It certainly adds to immersion, and is more logical than the alternative.

That said, it would be nice to see more crew members interact independently in general, not just in the romantic sense.

Like a few members playing a card game or something.

I agree! I enjoyed that aspect in DAI where everyone sits down for a game of Wicked Grace or plays chess lol It would be interesting to see crew members that dislike each other and just start an all out brawl lol then as the "leader" you have to break it up.. or take bets on who's gonna win lol

While rules in the military are constantly being broken, it's still very uncommon for Soldiers who work directly with each other to engage in a physical relationship. Now that being said it has been only like a year or so since women were allowed to serve on the front lines which is not enough time to see if something like that develops. (that's for the US troops)

You are obviously part of the minority that believes this. You sure you're playing Mass Effect?

No it's hopefully a story heavy game and in real life people have relationships and characters in games should reflect that too.

Yes to the first part. I've enjoyed how they've handled it so far.  Meh to the second part.

End of the world will do that.

Just because you don't like interacting with others doesn't make it silly!

While this is true, it still doesn't make it impossible. Or perhaps I'm just a sap that enjoys love story aspects of stories lol :P

since I'm still salty about Adoribull I do not want any budding romances around me and I will go to great lengths to sabotage every romance that isn't my own. Call me Commander C*ckblock

I didn't say impossible just very unlikely. I never served, I'm in college so I can't give you any first hand experience. But my dad served for 25 years and my brother in law does as well. I'm just saying what they told me. Do with that information what you wish.

How about you stop trying to get Bioware to implement your fetishes and whims into this game.

Like i said go play the sims.

I have family that has served as well and it's not impossible for things to happen with people you serve with or get close to in life or death situations..  but again this is just a story that Bioware is creating and have been known to add a love story aspect to the games.. while it make be unlikely IRL, it's still possible... I'm a sap for love stories lol

I think just having characters that are immersed in "We have a mission, let's get to it" would break the immersion of the story for the simple fact they would have no feelings or depth for that character..

Of course such relationships would blossom. But there are many logical and sound arguments why such relationships should not be pursued while on an assignment. There is a time and place to explore said relationships, but while serving is not one of them. That's why for example the Ashley/James relationship doesn't bug me as much because they pursue it while on shore leave, and after shore leave go back to being professionals until they next shore leave.

Do you really care about immersion in this case, or does this merely coincide with the type of romance that you personally like - i.e. without sex,

and with your personal dislike of the Tali - Garrus romance?

Because I imagine that this will allow you to break crew member romance for "pure reasons" like regulations (as opposed to not wanting them to somehow spoil the romance for you), and perhaps avoid the inevitable repercussions from said crew members yourself due to choosing to avoid sex?

You are imagining wrong, and trying to make me sound like a bad person while doing so. I do not appreciate it.

As long as it doesn't distract me from the plot like Attack of the Clones, then I'm okay.

In term of relationships, I wouldn't mind other kinds of relationship being explored. I like the siblings dynamic in DA2, I wouldn't mind if there are 2 brothers or a brother and a sister joining or something. There are a lot of potential conflicts I could see.

Well, in ME1,2 and 3 for instance, while on the Normandy and not in uniform.. sure the assignment is continuing outside, but during that downtime your not necessarily on assignment during down time. So why is it such a bad thing to have this blossoming love story aspect that happens during the character's down time.. Sure the assignment is important, but so are the characters.. If mission and assignment are the only things that you are concerned with and not the story value, then Call of Duty would sound like a more appropriate game.

I agree.  I think it would be nice to see this expanded on, more so than was done in DA2.

If you are on a ship, you are still serving. Just because there is nothing happening doesn't mean your tour of duty is on hold. Thus fraternization is against regulations. The only times in the Shepard Trilogy where it wasn't is Mass Effect 2 since it seems Cerberus doesn't have such regulations and Mass Effect 3: Citadel because you and the crew are on shore leave.

I don't see why romance is needed to build upon the characters and how the lack of it lessens them. There are many great Bioware characters where their love life doesn't come up once.

To be honest I don't care about the romance in games, I only care if it's hilariously contrived or stupid. Like the curie romance in Fallout 4

Fallout 4 Spoilers kind of if, you care at all about curies romance:

Spoiler

So, i wouldn't care to see more tali x garrus sort of stuff, it adds more to the game and makes it more interesting in my opinion.
