Which Part of Replaying do you Hate?

So, I decided I'd like to see if there are others who feel this way about certain things that come with Replaying the game.

Now, I've started the game over close on 20 or more times, sometimes because I go a long time without playing and it's just not fresh in my mind so I just start over, or because I find that I just really don't like this character. Or the one most often reason, to make other choices.

But each time I do so there is always one part that honestly fills me with dread. The Hinterlands.

I don't know why, I have absolutely no problem redoing any other section of the game, but just thinking or replaying the Hinterlands just fills me with I dun wanna... Often leading me to turn off several times a day only to go back because I do want to play, I just hate having to do the Hinterlands.

Anyone else feel this way about the Hinterlands? Or anything else for that matter?

I personally dislike the Fallow Mire. It's very linear and boring, and it's not connected to any of the main quests or bad guys, but they've kidnapped your people so if you don't go there then you feel like you've abandoned them, and I hate that manipulative gaming ploy.

Same with the Hissing Wastes. I wouldn't go near that area, but the Venatori agents there have slaves in cages, so I feel like I HAVE to go just so I can save them, bring them to the Inquisition, and set them up with jobs so they can be free.

Emprise Du Lion and the body pits in the Exalted Plains.

I dislike Emprise Du Lion since I can never quite peg if I'm ready for it so either I die a thousand times or steamroll through it. And I dislike Giants and there are like 2 of them in the Keep quest. (Disgusted noise). But I feel guilty if I don't do it. Those poor little garden plots deserve their freedom. And the area is quite pretty. And it is plentiful in the metals my paramour likes so much.

I dislike the body pits because of Arcane Horrors and Poison Arrows. I mean it's not so bad, but there is such a little difference between doing great and becoming another body for the pits. And the colors are so icky. Pale yellow brown, yuck!

Another thing about both those places is that they come up during the time I get tired with the game and they are both fairly lengthy quests, since you need to do a lot of walking and fighting. And the mooks can be dangerous if you are not ready. So you need to get in that spiffy combat mood and that can sometimes be hard. So body pits and Emprise Du Lion are both my ugh points in the playthrough.

I don't mind the Hinterlands because it's early in the game and useful to brainstorm about your characters character while mowing through the mooks.

I dislike the build-up to "In your heart shall burn", quite honestly I hate not being able to get the good stuff and see the cooler areas until after Haven is demolished.

The Exalted Plains and knowing that if I go over the bridge I'll be fighting in another body pit <_<

There's a lot going on in that zone but for some reason I find it very dull and I dread going there.

Mothersodding Hinterlands.

I know you're not supposed to linger, but I feel bad if I leave without doing basics like getting all camping spots, killing the wolves and setting up the watchtowers.

I would probably hate collecting all the shards again ... if I bothered to do it. Three of my five Inquisitors have completely ignored the Oculara and never picked up any of them. (Outside of JoH, anyway.)

Other than that, the only area that makes me grind my teeth is the Exalted Plains. I hate that both Solas and Vivienne have important quests there so I've yet to play a character who could skip it completely. (Maybe I need to make a PC who doesn't get on with either of them ...)

I'm not fond of the Fallow Mire, but at least it's short. Especially if you wait until you're hilariously over-levelled.

I'm still new to the game, so everything is exiting. But I know, the fetching quests will become boring in another playtrough (and I probably play parallel, since I love my rogue archer, but want to explore magic too)

The one good thing about there being SO many zones is that you skip some each run.  I didn't do Exalted Plains, Hissing Wastes, Emprise du Lion or half of Crestwood my first time through, so at least I'll have some new content next time.

I'm going to try my hardest to skip as much of the Hinterlands as is possible next time, but so early in the game....who knows if that's even possible?  I guess I could always turn down the difficulty and rush to recruit the mages/templars earlier on.

The Hinterlands. That is one long sodding area and after 15 hours I'm banging my head on my gaming table and asking why?!!!!  To be honest I do like some of the quest especially those that involves winning of the people's  heart and mine for the Inquisition.

I skip Fallow Mire for now and recruit the mages since I'm using a mage..

As far as characters,in my games  Chasha (a elf mage) seems to work best for me since she romances Sera. When  used Tidus romances Josephine.

I'm still playing around with a test game with a Female Dwarf warrior.

Talking to Leliana, because its badly written and I don't have much freedom to roleplay if I'm not to screw up my ending.

Wicked Hearts because of the Halla and my inability to read the damn map.

The Hinterlands aren't nearly as bad as the Exalted Plains, imo. Just arriving there makes me dissolve into ugly sobs. It's just all of the corpse pits and the endless waves of them and wolves. And of course first time play through with Dorian and his bugged out necromancy, they won't stay down! Every other location is fine it's just the mothersodding Exalted Plains that has me dying a little inside.

Yep, The Hinterlands. Though I have a route that I follow througout the area and it makes it a lot quicker. Usually takes me about 5 hours to complete most of The Hinterlands. And the worst thing is I always want to completely finish areas. I can't just follow the story and not discover every location and side quest. I have to do all of it.

Exalted Plains are probably the worst for me. When I get to that part, I often find myself stuck for a few days, simply because I'm not motivated enough to progress. There's also Hafter's Woods, but at one point you learn to appreciate wickedness of that place (still, it's a pain in the ass).

Actually, now that I think about it... With each pt I'm less and less motivated to finish post IYHSB part of the game.

I think I agree about The Exalted Plains. I've never been a fan of undead/zombies, not because they scare me but for the opposite reason; I find them tedious. I'm not quite so put off by The Fallow Mire as it's smaller and more atmospheric. I wouldn't say that I outright hate any area, though.

Going to have to agree with some other folks here and say the Exalted Plains really are the worst. The southern part of the map with the Dalish isn't so bad, but everything to do with the ramparts and everywhere else is just like pulling teeth. The scenery is ****, everything is barren, burnt, and in ruins; the geometry of the map makes getting around a pain (especially within the ramparts themselves); the spawn rates/locations of enemies makes traversing the map a pain, packs of Freemen, demons, undead and wolves absolutely flood the landscape. It's just not a fun place by any description.

Freaking Hinterlands... *sigh*

My Nightmare runs are actually kind of stuck since I can't find the motivation to play around in the Hinterlands. Too bad it's kind of required since they absolutely have to level up (and gain power) before they can tackle any more missions or areas.

I thought the title of this thread was "Which Part of Role-playing do you Hate?" and became confused on reading the OP.

As for replaying... the map I dislike the most is the Fallow Mire. I have this thing about going around the entire perimeter to completely fill out the map, but of course most of that particular one is in the water, and well... we know what happens if you stray into the water in FM. >.>

That said, most of my replay annoyances are created by myself, having to loot everything, explore everywhere; it's a compulsion.

Hee hee. I am the same. Far too obsessively completionist...

A lot of what I dread has already been listed, but, more specifically with the Hinterlands:

I feel like I need to at least get the War Table mission for building the watch towers on the farm, so it can *maybe* be done by the time I go back. But I get distracted by other quests on the way to the farms, because "Oh, that'll only take a minute and it'll get me more power!"
It takes 10-20 minutes that I could've put towards getting to Dennett... Anyway, it takes me forever because I want to be efficient. Ironic.

Then in Crestwood... After meeting Hawke and the Warden, I just want to stay on that track. Switching back to running around the map trying to fix things, after being told how urgently we need to get to The Western Approach, is tedious. I can't ignore the rift in the lake, though, because my companions are all "We're going to help these people, right?"
*sigh* Fine.

Exalted Plains. Really dislike trying to move around in the pits. The forest part is nice and I like running into the Dalish clan, but the war zone is ugly and a tiresome chore.

The Forbidden Oasis. Eurgh. I just can't. I hate that place, with the god damned shards put up weird ledges, where you have no idea how to get there, you need to go around the entire map cause it's built on levels.. and I always get lost trying to go to Solasan for some reason and end up going in circles or end up in the spider cave all the time.. even looking at the map does not help.. gosh that area is so bad.

Hate it so much that the last 2 PTs I did (ok, they were not complete PTs - already done that with 2 characters) I decided to skip shards entirely because if I picked one I would have to finish the quest in the Oasis.. so no. I completely skipped the shards. Don't need all those belts and rings anyway XD

On the contrary, I hated the Hinterlands at first but now I've completely mastered them, and I can finish them quite quickly, know where to go in order so  I don't waste too much time, etc :D I actually enjoy them now.

Except the druffalo quest. My god he is so slow. In the time it takes for me to bring him back to the farm I could do another 5 quests. zzzzzzzz

:D
