I hate the Fallow Mire. And the freaking "Drain the lake" quest in Crestwood. Hate hate hate hate haaaaaaate!
I don't quite hate the Hinterlands yet, but I'm getting there. That stupid Watchtowers mission.

Going to have to agree with some other folks here and say the Exalted Plains really are the worst. The southern part of the map with the Dalish isn't so bad, but everything to do with the ramparts and everywhere else is just like pulling teeth. The scenery is ****, everything is barren, burnt, and in ruins; the geometry of the map makes getting around a pain (especially within the ramparts themselves); the spawn rates/locations of enemies makes traversing the map a pain, packs of Freemen, demons, undead and wolves absolutely flood the landscape. It's just not a fun place by any description.
This. So. Much. I hated the Exalted Plains the first time I went through it and I've hated it ever since. I'd love to find a good RP reason to just ignore that map entirely.
I started a new character this afternoon though, and I don't mind the Hinterlands all that much, but what I really dislike is that first trip to Orlais. It's just prolonged shouting and the Mother takes too long to talk to after the Templars leave and absolutely nothing happens to move the story forward, except you've checked the "been to Orlais" box. I hate the quest to get Sera and I hate Vivienne's party, but I like Sera and even though I don't like Vivienne, I still get her just because I feel like I should.
Wicked Hearts because of the Halla and my inability to read the damn map.
+1 for me. Of all the MQ chapters, this one is most tedious. On the plus side, after so many repetitions, I've got the timer section down to a science and can get into the secret statue room to get all the loot and still come out with +80 approval.
Same is true for Hinterlands, I guess. I have an optimized sequence I follow that gets me to Redcliffe Village in under an hour, with all the agents (except the Irregulars) and all the Power needed for CotJ/IHW. It's a grind, but at least it doesn't take too much time. EDIT: I decided to post it here: http://forum.bioware...he-hinterlands/
I think I agree about The Exalted Plains. I've never been a fan of undead/zombies, not because they scare me but for the opposite reason; I find them tedious. I'm not quite so put off by The Fallow Mire as it's smaller and more atmospheric. I wouldn't say that I outright hate any area, though.
|Yeah there's quite a lot of them too it almost feels like that as soon as you've dealt with one lot another lot are coming in to strike. This and the Fallow Mire are probably my least favourite.Fortunately in the case of the Fallow mire though you don't have to linger in it long. As for the Hinterlands I find it quite a nice area. Pretty too in places so hasn't really bothered me too much
The hissing wastes.
Also the hissing wastes.
And let's not forget the hissing wastes.
Did I already mention the hissing wastes.
Seriously **** that zone.
Generally speaking I enjoy RPing. Only time it irks me is when something I would want to say in a particular situation is not available. It's understandable that the writers could not think of everything, but there are some obvious bits that are simply over looked. Going back to DA:O where you initially met Morrigan and you have the option to walk off saying "She's toying with us. Let's go." then she has the outburst of who has the grey warden documents. Where was the follow up of "Wow... that was easy. You must need us for something pretty bad. What happens to you if you go home empty handed? I get the feeling it's something bad." revealing your exit to be purely for show to cause a reaction from her. tons of little things like that.
Well, this has turned into a 'I hate the Exalted Plains' thread. I'll echo the general sentiment here. There is really nothing interesting there.
Navigation? Ugh.
Quests? Boring.
Resources? Useless.
It's a shame because the I kinda like the war torn, desolate landscape, but navigating the place is just... Ugh! As for the corpse pits... Why couldn't we just burn the whole fortifications down? They're made of wood!
The Hinterlands was brilliant constructed in its design and its point. It is a tutorial zone. Its a tutorial zone, an inroduction zone, it has pretty much every kind of quest you will do throughout DA I within its boarders. All the fetch quests and story quests. Merchants. Shards. Everything. You can really leave at any time without any negative consequences and never return.
That each time Solas does his lil "is that a serious question" snort-chuckle and says "my name is Solas if there are to be introductions" I fling myself straight back into his arms, future-knowledge be damned xP
Hah, I don't have quite the same reaction, but "Is that a serious question?" and his laugh in the Fade-Haven when the Inquisitor says Cassandra is "like that with everyone" are both pretty great, I agree.
i really like the Hinterlands, the landscape and environments are beautiful, what i don't like are the chores to gather herbs or minerals, i have t walk a lot of time, and it's boring, i'm the inquisitor i have more important things to do, some other people should find the herbs and minerals!

I only go to the Exalted Plains for Solas's personal quest and that's IT. Literally it. I can't hightail it outta there fast enough.

Agreed that the Hinterlands are beautiful. I like to just wander around the place on my mount once it's cleared up. It's one of the few good 'riding maps' in the game.
Exhausted Plains, for the reasons already given.

So do I even the negative areas I really enjoy doing again and again as I've never found anything that's a real proper turn off in their games. At least not yet anyway.
I have a few..
- Taking control of the ramparts, ground zero areas and burning body pits in the Exalted Plains
- Getting rid of the rogue templars and apostates in the Hinterlands
- Draining the lake and closing the underground fade rift in Crestwood
- Routing out the Freemen and their leaders in the Emerald Graves
- Chasing after Servis in the Western Approach
- Fighting the two red lyrium infected giants at Suledin Keep in Emprise du Lion

yeah the Giant fights aren't fun but I suppose the bright side is they do reward you with good loot when you deal with them so there is that.

Yeah, that's true. I don't recall getting loot from the Emprise giants, but the ones from Emerald Graves.
Rifts. I don't like dealing with rifts. It's nauseous... There's just so much useless waiting for the new wave to start and junk. Plus the neon green/yellow really makes me vomit. UGH.
One thing I definitely hate about restarting this game is having to farm fade touched materials. Sure, technically I don't have to, but on higher difficulties some of the abilities they give make a huge difference.
I don't like the Fallow Mire because it is dark and wet and really dreary (I entirely agree with Dorian about that) but by leaving it until later I can at least make it quick. Not keen on the Hissing Wastes because it takes so much time to cross them. I know that is what the mount is for but if I do that then I might miss an opportunity to trigger dialogue between companions. I couldn't understand why it had to be endless night there as well.
I also was not keen on the Exalted Plains, particularly the area across the bridge because it is pretty much the same as I've encountered before and after a while fighting endless squads of undead gets a bit boring.
I've never been keen on the Forbidden Oasis and hate the occulara because of how they are made but thankfully the shards do seem to be the only reason for going there, so having done one complete run through, I now miss it out altogether.
Definitely the undead in Exalted Plains. I dread going there so avoid the pits for as long as possible. Then I go looking for something only to find it located smack in the middle of one the pits I was trying to avoid. ![]()
I learned the hard way though...once you start, don't stop until you burn the pit in that area. Otherwise they will all respawn and you have do it again. ![]()

I'm pretty sure the War Table missions to gather herbs and minerals are sending other people to do just that.
They are just not very good at it.

I gotta agree that the Xanax Plains is the worst zone of all. The buzzing/groaning environmental audio, the glaring light, the wandering demons, the burning smell, the insane aggro halla, the chiggers and mosquitoes. Hate that place!
.... unless I need to farm Arcane Horror Hearts for Master Cleansing Runes. Then The Exalted Plain ramparts are the bestest places in the whole world. Don't set fire to the pits and you get never-ending Arcane Horrors!
