Sure but how many combat ready force recon marines have you seen who are fat?

I never saw any fat Marine at all when I was in, let alone any Recon types. I seriously doubt anyone who was obese could even pass the physical fitness test. I did go to Basic with a few people who were overweight, but not morbidly obese. Those that made it came out the other end having lost 40 or 50 lbs.

I have seen a few sailors could stand to lose a few pounds, but the Navy's standards are a bit lax and their jobs are completely different than anyone in a combat arms specialty in the Army or Marines. That said, you'd never see a fat SEAL or FMF Corpsman.

I've seen my fair share of fat Army guys as well, have not much experience with the AF but you hear stories

Who knew that gamers where such fat shamers? There's some irony in there somewhere with someone. Lol

But seriously, there's nothing all that athletic about MEs combat. I don't see why a bigger person would be any worse with moving around as a KRogan would be. Also, theres plenty if thin to average built people that get winded quickly themselves. It's not like any character ever gets winded from running everwhere in game anyways.

So why all the selective realism for a fantasy sci-fi game? There's plenty of bigger characters throughout sci-fi.

I don't see fat shaming here, only that fat people are almost always never fit. I know this is an extreme example it's like a guy with no arms tries to compete in a sword fight. You really expect him to do good? I think not good sir.

Anyway combat in that sense is a lot like boxing. Nobody thinks it's that exhausting because it's only your arms moving forward rapidly. You don't sprint you don't run a lot but somehow it's exhausting as ****.

If we can have a pilot with osteogenesis imperfecta, we can have a person with a bit more weight on the ship I guess. While I don't know if he should be a front fighter. Those have to be really fit, imagine the other gravitational forces on planets. I bet you have to be very fit to fight in some situations. But as a supporter on the ship, doctor, pilot or mechanic, why not?

Exactly my point. So question for a former insider. In terms of training how far off are the Force Recon troops compared to spec ops like the navy seals? I tried to look it up a couple of times but information is always pretty vague and sometimes it seems like they're more spec ops and sometimes it seems they're more like rangers.

well, EVERYONE in the military has to be combat ready any day of the year, in theory. It's not like your whole squad will be made up of Recon Marines nor will the entire Alliance Navy.

Well at least in the past games they were almost always combat troops, and by that I mean the ones who are actually fighting (if they are human) and fat don't fly in that scenario

Only if it's a woman. I dig fat chicks.

Really? I heard of that but I never actually found one.

But a severe bone disease, mission endangering headaches and pretty much constant breach of protocol does fly, just not a little chub, that's absolutely out of the question. And you can absolutely do well in a sword fight with tiny arms, all bulk doesn't make you instantly great

I said no arms. I'm on the fence about the bone disease as well. There is no protocol Spectre can do everything they want to. And headaches? I think I missed that.

I have a different reason for not wanting fat characters in ME. What I see is that in the future people using either medical technology, culture or genetics would have solved the issue. There would still be people who would be softer than soldiers, more rounded but no fat people.

Kaidan got migraines because he was an L2 biotic. Some biotics with L2 implants had rather more serious consequences.

Oh right. If a normal guy had headaches like that I would say through him out of the combat troops, but Biotics are probably worth the risk.

Some of the requirements to try out for Force Recon is to have both a first class PFT (physical fitness test) score and a first class swim qualification, so the people they're drawing from are among people finishing in the top tier as far as physical fitness goes. To even try out you have to have a high score on your PFT and be a strong swimmer.

Force Recon is not officially special operations in that they aren't a dedicated Special Operations Command asset, but they perform special operations missions. Its sort of complicated. The Marine Raider regiment is under the purview of SOCOM.

I take it, you can't apply but must be chosen?

Come on guys you are being a bit mean here...  Please stay civil. I don't need an overweight person on my squad too but if we get one, I bet many people will be happy because it's not something we see in video games often. And not for comedy please. We are not in kindergarten anymore were the fat chick get's bullied. If we can live together with 6 eyed aliens, a bit more weight should be alright too. <_<

You can put in a request to try out, but the request would need to be approved by your command. If it gets approved the person would then need to pass the Basic Recon Course.

I really don't understand people with these kind of fetishes. I am not a very fit person myself(but I have been making progress since new years) but that is just...weird

It's not bullying to point out that an overweight person is ill-suited for combat roles. The posters here are being perfectly civil.
