We have to consider military requirement for fitness if we're talking about combat roles.
Can we get a person of Girth on the Squad?

I appreciate the honesty. I've experienced both types of weights. There isn't a chance I'd make a good soldier when I was heavy. And I wasn't about to live in some fantasy land, where I imagined that I could...
Well, to be honest, I try to play heavier characters where I can. Saints Row is a prime example. I've always been a heavy person and I'm working on fixing that, but it's hard work. However, given the context of Mass Effect, I can't see it happening.

As a squadmate, no. Though I suppose it depends what you mean by girth. A few extra pounds, okay, fine. But anything more than 10-15 pounds isn't going to fly in a combat outfit - especially spec-ops. If Bioware wants a fat person in a support role - like a 300 lb Kelly Chambers I can buy that. Though I'm sure any attempt to do something like that is going to get shot down by their focus group and marketing and research department.

No..no.no. no. I am more than accepting when it comes to homosexual characters, trans characters and people of color. But! I wont be accepting of something that is within control of individuals.
(Is this sarcasm, I can't tell...)
Amazing.
(Am I using sarcasm? I can't tell...)
You know, I think you can actually change your color today if you want, it is within your control.

Helios brings up good point, there is quite difference between someone who is like this:

and like this:

I think we could definitely have people who have heavier body frames on our team and it wouldn't be weird at all, but I don't know if noticeably obese people would make sense especially if they work on field.

Right, it's just when they get the overflowing, uncontainable rolls and can't fit through doors or walk 100 feet that it becomes a bit improbable. Morbid obesity is a no, overweight or slightly obese but muscular, maybe.

I'd bundle many trans in the same category too. Just by seeing how many never go for operations -- and STILL hit on lesbians. lol. Like being trans makes it OK. They're just guys still.

Sooo, are we definitely some kind of military organization? Special ops, no less? Not just a bunch of admittedly inexplicably kick azz scientists?
I thought they said we were not going to be military again.

I see no reason why a heavier character couldn't be an effective biotic or engineer.
BioWare included heavy NPCs in their first RPG (Baldur's Gate), and even allowed the PC to be heavy in NWN.
I think this is an excellent idea.

So why no fat people?
I would looove to make a thick white girl protagonist.
P.A.W.Gs in Mass Effect? Yes.

Don't they need a ton of calories.. constant intake or something?
I suppose the fat might be a benefit actually. Like swimming across the English channel. ![]()

Look at strength athletes. Zydrunas Savickas was never a slender dude.

not genetically possible in the Mass Effect universe, they weeded out the fat gene and people only eat sushi and ramen in the future.

I guess an vaguely obese support type role, IT or someone stuck behind a desk all day etc. It could reinforce the "non military"/ civilian aspects of the setting, weight loss could be a story line. As an officer you could restrict their calorie intake and see the effects it has. It would be amusing to have a slider bar for crew calorie intake, background characters complaining etc. Actually given the setting perhaps finding enough food or a viable food source does become a problem... Ah well

That dude has a ton of muscle still.
Just like a lot of these "Before" pics in diet ads. Those guys who looked ripped after dieting had all that muscle underneath before.
The average fat person never built any in the first place.

But we're not talking about the average fat person. Like all playable characters, we're talking about an exceptional fat person. That dude has a ton of muscle still.

It's not confirmed, but it may as well be. At Comic-Con 2014, they showed the protagonist armor and on the upper right arm there was a N7 emblem, and Mike Gamble said that we "will have something to do with N7".

They may as well not be any different than Vega then. That weightlifter above just has some padding. All he'd have to do is some cardio and he'd look like any musclehead.
