This is probably a topic for tech support, but even the answer database there has only one non-applicable topic on the Firestorm spell, so I'll try posting this here.

I was jumping around between saves today, going back and loading some older ones and redoing some quests to choose different dialogue, and when I was fighting a battle to get through Aveline's 3rd act companion quest, I activated Merrill's Firestorm and nothing happened. She wasn't interrupted or anything. The word appeared over her head like usual and she went through the full casting animation, but no fire ever fell.

Since then, the Firestorm spell for her and Anders has been totally glitched: sometimes it will work a few seconds after the casting animation starts and the word Firestorm appears over their heads, sometimes it takes around 10 seconds after they've started the animation for any fire to fall, but mostly, nothing ever happens.

I've tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this over about 4 hours--every save I load after Aveline's quest, and some before that I didn't even load has this problem. I tried unequipping them of all equipment, leaving map zones and returning, even Maker's Sighs to purge all their old abilities and rebuild them, but nothing works.

I haven't checked every single old save to see where it might still work in the past, and an ancient save from Legacy seems to have a working Firestorm, but that was ages back from my progress--I was in the middle of the next top last plot quest when I loaded these older saves and the problem began.

The Dragon Age Wikia doesn't mention this bug. I'm playing on the Xbox 360.

Has anyone ever heard of a bug like this? And more important, does anyone know how to fix the spell? It would stuck to lose one of my best crowd control abilities right before the climax, but I fear I'll have to give up on the spell and finish this first Nightmare difficulty playthrough with it.
