problem is though they're still complaining and want BW to change it. We all know Bioware have no such plans to do so now so we a kind of at an impasse on that. Doesn't bother me though because although I agree it is weak compared to the rest of the story it still makes sense to me.
And again I repeat. What's wrong with that?
Why shouldn't they complain, why shouldn't they hold out hope that the ending could be changed. I'm still hoping that they change the ending to Roseanne and that show is far older than Mass Effect 3.

I launched the first game without really knowing what I should expect from it and..... felt in love with it in 5 seconds.
Then I played ME1-2-3 like an addict.
The end, well, you will like it or dislike it, I can't tell, I'm not you. Anyway, all the things that happen during the 3 games are just amazing and I don't think the end will ruin your pleasure to play and to meet great characters, to create (and be) your own Shepard, to visit other worlds, to travel around the galaxy......
Just play ME. Certainly the best games I ever made, best emotional connexion I ever had with characters.

becaquse it's abundantly clear they'er not working on that game anymotr so it's not going to change.

There is nothing "wrong" with it. However, there's a difference between "holding out hope for something" and just repeatedly banging one's head against a wall. People don't like to watch people giving themselves a headache without at least trying to tell them to stop.
How about "As someone who has been a Bioware fan since the original Baldur's Gate games, and who still plays their games today, I cannot, in good conscience recommend the Mass Effect series. But if you do decide to play it, I would do so with either MEHEM or John P's Alternate MEHEM mod at the ready"?
Edit: What kind of dinosaur are we talking about here?
Baldur's Gate is my all time favorite game and I played it to smithereens in 1998 when it was released in my country. I also love Mass Effect. Is it as awesome as BG? No way. Is it a great game franchise? Hell yeah. I enjoyed it immensely. I would love to see another BG type of game, but the current gamer base is too lazy to play a game that doesn't tell you what you need to do every step of the way or without having constant FPS/3PS action adventure. If you're going to be sad though, be sad about how games are evolving, but don't spit on one of the best games in a pool of bad ones.
The thing is there is still a market for Baldur's Gate style games, look at Pillars of Eternity or Divinity: Original Sin.
It seems to me that the publishers are all obsessed with chasing the Call of Duty money, and so no matter the genre of game they try and emulate that series.

Or Shadowrun Returns, or Torment: Tides of Numenera, or Wasteland 2...
Heck BG, BG2, and Icewind Dale Enhanced Editions.
There's actually a new expansion coming out fro BG at the end of the month!
It's a great series. Play it on PC, and get MEHEM. The original endings for ME3 are nonsensical narrative and just plain boring. I'd also recommend the Citadel Epilogue Mod. Puts the Citadel DLC in the right place for the story, in my humble opinion.
There are a lot of mods for all three games. The best for ME1 fixes the ugly textures (Gawd Darned XBox 360 crap) it's called MEUITM. There's now a super texture mod for ME2 out called ALOT. I think there's an ALOT for ME3 as well.
Anyway, here's links to all three nexus mod sites, you can start from there and dig about. Good times.

Yes, it's worth it. Best video game experience I've ever had. The ending isn't even all that bad. In my opinion, at least.
Give it a try without any bias or negative opinions. Hopefully you enjoy it!
The answer to the question depends upon what $30 means to you and how you feel about the hours you'll spend figuring out if it was worth it.
Personally, the thirty dollars meant very little to me, so it was worth it to try from a financial standpoint. The dull play hours, though... Driving the mako through near desolate zones left me with the distinct feeling that I've got better crap to do,, so I never finished. But at least I gave it a shot and have a better feeling about whether or not I'll buy ME:A.
Is it worth it? For me, kinda. For you? Only you can answer that.

For me, I loved some of those long drives in the Mako. Mass Effect one was epic not only due to an amazing story, but also because of those scales. Getting out of the Mako to mine minerals lets you hear the howl of the wind in your helmet on some planets. Sometimes you get crunchy footsteps, sometimes really loud places with meteor showers. Sometimes you get amazing vistas. It makes me feel small, exactly like how you would feel if you really were there. Imagine actually being able to travel the galaxy via Mass Relays and explore so much - would it not be incredible? Instead of taking hundreds of thousands of years, what if you could travel the span to another system in a matter of hours? These ideas along with the vastness of the maps, the immense interior of the Citadel, helped make the game very special to me.
As for it being worth it? Look at the metacritic and the user scores - form your own opinion. For me, ME one and two were worth it. In my opinion ME3 had a lot of potential, but fell way short of my expectations. The project was simply too big for BioWare to do in the time they had to do it. Things got rushed, and it shows in the game and in the story-lines.
The third game in the series is extremely rushed, and is only really a solid 6/10 - it has one or two decent moments, and yes the ending is pretty obnoxious and stupid, and totally degrades the villains of the series. But Mass Effect 1 and 2 on the other hand are some of the best games I've ever played.
The series is still totally worth playing. You'll get absorbed into the different races and characters in the earlier games which more than make up for the last 2 hours of ME3's utter banal stupidity.

I've never played any Mass Effect games, but I've heard that the ending is horrible. Should I give the series a chance or would it be better to spare myself the pain?
If you can get the series on the pc, yes it is worth it. I played on the 360 from the day ME1 came out till I finished ME3 enough times to realize I had not missed something and the ending I got was considered good. If the destination is somewhere I don't want to go, how I get there doesn't matter to me.
I eventually repurchased the game for the pc, got a mod that gave me the endings I had expected. Shepard can live or Shepard can die. No sparkles and no thinking Shepard is a god like character. The rest pretty much stayed the same. For me, it was worth buying again because I do love the series.
Even if you get it for a console, I'd definitely recommend ME1 for story and ME2, well 2 was just fun to me. ME3 some people stopped with the citadel dlc and some people actually like sparkles and making god like decisions, so you might want to judge for yourself about the ending. There are other problems in 3 but for me the ending was #1.
Unfortunately yes they are. These days I just ignore them now because I feel they're just complaining for the sake of complaining. Whilst in one way I do agree with them in that it's a weak ending it still made sense within the universe to me so as far as I'm concerned so I've accepted it and moved on. The game series in general is just too good to not take positives from it anyway. I also don't see Bioware repeating those mistakes. Personally all in all I think we can forgive Bioware for this one mistake so long as they do learn from it.
That last part as long as they learn from it. I very much agree with.
1. Yes I think everyone here knows now they will never change the game any more than they have.
2. I don't want them to ever forget just how P_O_'ed I am about the ending.
Having bought each game as it was made, played my character through the first game. Then waited for the second game, and played through that as well. Biting at the bit waiting for the third game, and so my hero could play again. ( Then they did what they did to me )
3. People that just bought the trilogy, and played it from start to end ( Never having to wait the long periods between, and play, and replay the first, and second in anticipation of the Third installment ) , I doubt took it quite so hard, in fact to them it may seem funny that the rest ["Sorry!" Many ] of us were so Peeved about the ending.
4. But as for me, even if Boiware never reads these forums, and I doubt they do. I want them to remember that many of us did not like what they did, and I for one don't want them to ever forget it.
5. I have said earlier in the Post, yes yes,yes Buy this one, it excellent if you like RPG's, and companion interaction, possible romance options, very interesting story line, and many events that you will remember for a long time to come.
I have also said that being as you will be able to buy all three titles at once, I think the ending will not be quite as upsetting to you as it was for many of the rest of us.
Spoiler
6. However I for one, will never play ME3 with out having MEHEM installed again. The original ending was a bitter thing for me, having invested so much time, and effort into my character, and I am sorry if this bothers many of you, or if you see it as trivial, but for me it was not.
Even with the three choices which were all rather bitter each with there perverted, or bad side, for me there just was not a really good side at all, some say the green side was okay, but that did not sit well with me either.
[ And the big kicker was the Shepard Death! That to me was just terrible, like Bioware said "LOL, now we have brought the Player through 5 years or more of game play, lets Kill um off, it will be a Gas, come on, what do ya say { just for shiit's and GIGGLE's ! }" ]

Opinion =/= Fact
While you and many others may have disliked the endings, others like myself were fine with not only the Extended version, but the originals. Not a fan of the Star Child or the last mass battle before hitting the beam, but am OK with the choices, the conclusions, etc.
The series is well worth it, esp as seeing how folks discuss and debate minutia in it after all this time.
Unless you aren't too busy playing something else, then yeah, I would say it is totally worth it.
Besides the ending is not that bad.
Even if it were really bad, it should take you 90 or so thrilling hours before you get there - not to mention the whole series has a decent replay value.

They did not care for the ending, but that does not include everyone.

Again, they didn't say their opinion was fact. "I doubt" and "it may" indicates hypothetical pondering, not assertion of fact.
