Again, they didn't say their opinion was fact. "I doubt" and "it may" indicates hypothetical pondering, not assertion of fact.

It is stated that it is a fact that 'the rest of us were so peeved'; untrue, but am willing to believe that this is a biased opinion. Simply clarifying that it is not a fact.

@OP - The series is worth it. However, be aware that some of the DLC may be somewhat difficult to install properly. I am Techless, and cannot advise on this matter, so seek help if needed.

Give it a go

I had never really known much about the series until my brother played the trilogy and told me how great it was

This is a sign to me that you did not play the original game, but bought it latter after ME3 was fixed some what

Spoiler
It was added latter to appease all the very P'O' ed Fan's.

Or that is the way I remember it, but there is also the chance that with the original ME3, as you could not really ever get enough War points to see a the multiple endings with out playing on line, something I am almost never guilty of, I learned long ago online play == Ping is King, and avoid it like the plague.

Also I was very ticked off about the fact that they Tied the ability to see the multiple ending [ with directors cut ] to online play at all, this was very unacceptable to me.

It wasn't too hard to get all endings except the breath scene.

To get the breath scene the player needed at least 4000 ems without TIM shooting Anderson or 5000 ems if TIM shoots Anderson. Both of those numbers could not be reached without playing multiplayer. Playing multiplayer was needed to raise your galactic readiness to increase your ems

It's called the extended cut. It reduced the required ems to 3100 to get the breath scene. With a ME2 save import and playing dlc, its not hard to get 3100 without having to play multiplayer

Most people don't bother scanning the planets for additional war assets or do fetch quests to add that up.

Thank You ! I did not remember the exact details, Mainly I just remembered that with one play through it was pretty much impossible to see the breath scene, so there was never any doubt that those that did not play on line were not going to see it, and get blasted with the For many terrible ending.

Source?

Have been watching a lot of streams on Twitch the past few months, and the majority of those Players appear to do both. And while I tend to skip Item packs myself, the majority of the story DLC for the series is top notch.

Actually, I didn't either, unless forced to do so. Planetary scan mechanics are a super pain in the azz, boring and repetitive to no end. That is the equivalent of gathering Elf Root.

Lucky for me, Shinobi posted that ME:A facial and idle animations have improved significantly. Probably all mocap animations now, since the old engine animation library is incompatible with FB.

In my first trilogy run, I play it blind but as a Paragon. I didn't have most ME2 DLCs, miss a lot of squadmate's side missions, didn't do planet scanning (worth 1290 war assets, just base game alone), didn't meet up with Kelly or Cortez but I have all ME3 DLCs and I still get the breathing scene since it still exceed 3100+ EMS. But even without the Extended Cut's lowered requirement, 4000+ EMS is still possible if you have the DLCs and play without MP (which Bioware should have done sooner). Nowadays, it still require more conscious effort to self-sabotage myself through the trilogy just to get lower EMS endings... so I'm quite skeptical with these complaints unless they haven't updated the game since June 2012 or haven't purchased the story DLCs yet (Its EA, of course they want money).

That is cool, but see there were no DLC for ME3 when I played it first time.

<<<EDIT>>> { as to planet scans, I never really minded them, they were one of those things I would do, when I was winding down, getting ready for bed, or had just a short amount of time to play, and did not want to start or have time to start a full fledged mission } ( I am not saying I loved them, I am just saying they were and extra that when i had time I did them )

I've never played any Mass Effect games, but I've heard that the ending is horrible. Should I give the series a chance or would it be better to spare myself the pain?

Yes play the games and don't worry about the ending.

Yes Play the game, if you like RPG, and actually a very great story, possibility of fantasy romance. It is one of the best.

1. Warnings about the ending serve a double purpose, one I can continue to vent at Bioware, so they remember.

2.another reason for the Warning is, what my Uncle use to say "Expect the worst, and you won't be disappointed!"... [ Giving you a bit of a warning about the 3rd installment  of the RPG brings you expectations of something really terrible, and so having been warned you are mentally geared up for something really bad ]

So when it happens you wonder what all the complains are about because you were ready, and having DLc's, and the extended ending, and a smaller amount of war assets to collect. Boo coo's of web sights to help you through the difficult choices.  You surely will be ready for your next play through.

3. Also being able to install MEHEM, as and Option is very nice    :D

Play the games, you will probably love them.

Not having 5 years of investment into the series will guarantee that, at most, the ending will feel a bit off. Most likely you will join the New bioware fans who think the ending outrage was a massive overreaction.

Yeppers! You got that right I think, most New ME players of course, don't go through the 5 year play, and replay until the next release, and connect to there Hero in the same way those of us who did that do. The ending at least for me was rather heart breaking.

Thus I have never played ME3 again without MEHEM installed.  But it is really hard for me to play ME3 anyway, because I played it that one time, and endured the ending that I believe was a slap in the face to Fan's, and it is very hard for me to forget.

I would really like to see some tangible proof to this notion of "new fans" not being as "connected" or "invested" in Shep as the "old fans".

I second the citation needed petition.

I'm really surprised the MEHEM gets so much love. The idea is great but the execution is terrible. Visuals and dialogue are blatantly and badly cobbled together from existing footage, and if you're the type of hardcore fan that cares enough to want a better ending (like me) you can even recognize where a lot of the reused material came from.

I find it more jarring than just headcannoning it, which is what I do instead.

That ME3 infographic does imply that a high proportion of ME3 players completed the game in a low-EMS state; the companion survival statistics don't make much sense otherwise.

Someone doing a Twitch stream isn't a typical player.

Well, you gotta grade this stuff on a curve. For a fan mod made without dev tools, it's pretty good. Though it's hard for me to see it as a player; MEHEM doesn't solve any problem I actually had, so I only see it as an example of modding.

Perhaps; perhaps not, but many fans do not complete games either.

Sure. I've always thought it was funny that the ME3 ending fuss got so overblown when the majority of players never saw it

Why would you find that funny?. Since the people who saw the endings are likely to also be those who are the most passionate about the series.
