These games are dating simulators in the same way that the romance scenes are porn. The only people who say that either have no clue what they're talking about in the first place, or they're just actively ignoring what words mean.
Actual dating simulators don't usually involve heaps and heaps of combat and sweeping story arcs about the fate of billions of people for most of the game.

How exactly is ME a dating simulator? Last I checked dating simulators really don't have combat, RPG elements like leveling up, or like Lady Artifice said huge story arcs.

It's really not, you can go through the whole game without space ****** or any other nonsense. But try to finish the game without fighting. They just added the relationship thing to make it a little more real.
EDIT:
Something leads me to believe this is not meant to be taken seriously.

Being able to buy only what you want, and to freely trade anything you might encounter while playing campaigns?
Yes, please!

The RNG gods hate me though....
Have you tried saying a prayer to RNGesus?
RNGesus who art in Mass Effect,
Random be thy store.
Thy RNG come;
Thy match be done;
In the Milky Way as it is in Thedas.
Give us this day our Spectre Pack,
And forgive us our mistakes,
As we forgive those who ignore the objective;
And lead us not into D/C,
But deliver us from lag.
For thine is the PUG,
and the execute, and the sync kill,
for ever and ever,
Amen.

ME isn't literally a dating a sim, but if one didn't know any better, they'd think it was given the huge focus on "romances" on these boards(same with DA).
As crazy as it sounds, there are people on here whose chief interest in these games is said "romance" content(especially the yuri/yaoi contingent). That playing ME/DA for such is as nonsensical as getting "Tekken" so that one can play barbie dress up in character customization doesn't seem to dissuade them either.

Bunz, ahem, I mean Autumn rose, bro, you gotta chill with these topics. I mean you had a fair enough idea with getting rid of the random numbers aspect of the MP, but then you had to go full clown mode.

The fact is that ME is a space dating simulator. I don't mean the whole game be solely focused on this aspect but it would be nice to interact with other ME characters.
Instead of the RNG, make a trading market where players can go with their characters to buy equipment, trade, and catch a drink at the local pub.

If this was a mercenary group located in established cities and towns, I'd agree. But, ME:A is about human colonization efforts and their need to established a foothold in the Cluster. The squad base is probably in one of the colony ships with missions launched from there.
Interactions are fine... to be expected, actually. But trading?
