BioWare can we please have the option to say no to sex but yes to relationships?

Eh, I'm going to have to stay traditional with this one.

A relationship without consummation isn't really much of a relationship.  *holds up flame shield against progressives*

I wonder how hard Bernie would laugh if you asked his opinion on the representation of ace spectrum sexualities in videogames.

Yes there is. This thread wouldn't exist if there wasn't.

No there isn't. Some people just love to gripe about nothing.

That doesn't solve anything. Not everyone has sexual relations while they're in a romantic relationship at that stage if ever for a variety of reasons.

I don't see what the big deal with sex. People are going apey over sexuality these days.

Out of all the issues the team has to deal with this one seems microscopically miniscule by comparison. I'd rather they focus their resources on the main questline, and sidequests.

I think he'd probably be a little confused for a bit.

Then again, perhaps some simply tire of the daily exploits of the Kardashians....

Not everyone is like you and share the same viewpoint as you, due to either biology, upbringing, personal experience, or a variety of other reasons.

As of this post, I do believe there are about twenty-nine threads on the first page of this forum and I do believe that of those about three are about romantic or sexual content. That would leave about twenty-six threads that are not about romantic or sexual content so I do believe there is a flaw in your perception of current interest. Additionally, the content in the aforementioned few threads would be in the game and be gameplay so it would be a counterpoint to your assessment that no one cares about the game or its gameplay.

If you are uninterested in or have strong negative feelings towards this topic then there are plenty of others threads avaliable for your reading that you may find more to your liking and interest.

:P I beg to differ. They're a lot of men that are in league with me. We just think different and we as men are more attached to sexuality than anything else, it's only natural to feel those things.

I stand with Hanako with this on a personal level, but I think N7Phantom is right. Obviously so.

I never said there wasn't a lot like you. I said not everyone is like you. And there are many men who are attached to different things than the censored.

How is saying an objectively false statement being truthful? You even said you knew you were incorrect before saying you were being truthful.

I mean that I know not everybody thinks like me nor expect anyone to, and I'm just being truthful of how dudes are more into sexuallity in relationships. I have friends that tell me these things from their experience.

Hardly objectively false: Males generally think more about sex and are more likely to actively seek sexual activities, there are exceptions of course, but in general it's mostly a fact.

And assuming that you are a female, you are not in a great position to agree or disagree with the accuracy of his statement anyway.

I mean, you can, but your understanding of the reality of the subject is partial at best.

I don't see the problem here.  The title of the thread specifically says "option to say no".  If it's optional and allows people to roleplay the protagonist how they wish, how is this a bad thing? People can still choose for their player character to have sex.

Optionality is a bad thing if it means the sexual nature of the relationship cannot thereafter be referred due to its optionality. Options are only good if they are going to invest the resources to reflect them.

There should be a friendzone option that should be followed by your LI going on 9gag and posting nice-guy-friendzone memes.

"I like/love you, but I don't want to sleep with you."

How does that work exactly? At best it seems like it would send some really mixed signals. It's not enough to just express affection for someone, in a healthy relationship you've also got to demonstrate it with your actions. That isn't just limited to sex of course, but sex is a part of it.

I don't think its unrealistic for at least some squadmates, and probably a majority, to either react with either confusion or loss of interest. I think most people hearing something like that in the real world from someone they're supposedly in a relationship with, would question the sincerity of their partner or wonder whether their partner just doesn't doesn't find them attractive.

That's assuming at least that religion isn't coming into play and someone isn't waiting till marriage, because [holy text of preference] says sex is sinful.

Tbh, I think this could be achieved with the same presentation as some of the ME2 romances. I mean, Miranda and Jacob's are the only ones where it seems pretty obvious that sex is about to take place. The others are more open to ambiguity.

I like the idea of romances without sex, and also sex without romances (aka the other thread). The more romance variety, the better! It makes different romance paths more unique and fitting for that character. My favourite romances in DA happened to be more sexual characters, but I also really liked ones like Solas that focused on the emotional/romantic side of things. So long as there's lots of dialogue and development, I'm happy.

After reading the thread, this is my opinion on it.

First off, the OP was almost absurdly rude. I've been in relationships where I was fully intimate in less than a month, and I was also in relationships where we both held off on sex. I'm fine with the option, but let people do what they are going to do. If they enjoy having sex in their relationship early on, it doesn't hurt anyone so long as everyone is being careful. If they choose to wait, or are like the example of the Christian couple article, then that doesn't affect me either. There is a similar thread in the DA forums, but the OP was very polite. Please, don't shame people just because they like sex. No need and frankly puts a lot of folks on the defensive. :(

Anyway, I've posted in character/story request threads often over the last few years, (though these days I more lurk) and this has been one of the ideas that I've been fully behind for quite some time. I think it's a fair request, and as long as it doesn't kill the word budget, I think it's a great idea. I'm usually happy with reasonable ideas such as having a sex free and/or asexual romance in a BioWare game. If anything, I've always felt that the friendship and the platonic side of a romance is just as important as the sex. To quote an author I love: Being best friends is the only way to be lovers, staying best friends is the only way to be married. I've been married for 10 years as of June, with the same person for over 12. Over the years, I've found it's a very true statement.

I also think that it can lend to some further fleshing out of a character without going too far past what the writers can reasonably do. Depending upon the background that the PC has (which will likely be chosen by the player ala ME and DA,) the player might feel it's within their character to enjoy romance, but not be into having sex. Folks choose to wait to have sex for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it's religious, sometimes it's asexuality. However, sometimes it's because of a bad previous relationship or (in the case with two of the potential Shepard backrounds,) a tramatic past. Those are ideas that I think that can add to roleplay as well as replay value.

I don't want to see sex and relationships disappear from the current BIoWare franchises. Still, I don't see the harm in having a "cuddle/'can we wait" option.

Edit: Wasn't there a "just cuddle" option with Garrus? I'm not honestly 100% sure.

Maybe we should turn this around and have a companion hit us with "yes, I like you but no to sex."  Player gives up moves on or is persistent across the trilogy (assuming one is planned) and is rewarded with the "big" payoff.  Something like Samara but with more romantic feelings involved.

I also wanted to mention that I don't think this is something for all potential love interests. I've been a fan of seeing a sex positive character like Isabela (minus that stupid STD joke,) and I would love to see one in a ME game. I do think that for a few of the LIs, no sex would be a deal breaker. I think that would be truer to life versus either most/everyone wanting sex or everyone being fine without sexual intimacy.

One of the type of LIs I could see this working with is an alien one, due to a possible biological hinderance. That is, without either "adapting immune systems" or otherwise having someone like Mordin around to advise the character and/or LI on how to have safe alien sex.
